UE is against climate change
UE considers as an absolute priority the fight against the global climate change,
Communitarian’s package on climate and energy commits the member States to cut their own CO2 emissions of almost 20% by 2020.
Signers of Covenant of mayors contribute to these politic objectives through:– a voluntary but formal commit where will be foreseen the reaching of
such objectives – implementation of specific Action Plans for the sustainable energy

Abruzzo Region
On May 4th, 2010 in Bruxelles subscribed the adhesion to the Covenant of Mayors with European Commission
Region acting a role as “Supporting Structures” for:– promotion, sustain and development of the energy production from
renewable resources, – saving energy – sustainable mobility, in line with the programmatic objectives of European Commission

The 4 Provinces of Region subscribed the Covenant of Mayors as intermediate bodies

Some history
4.10.2010 Regional Council adopted a Memorandum of Understandings with
the 4 Provinces 300.000 € to the provincial administrations for supporting
municipalities in drafting Action Plan 18.10.2010 Memorandum of Understanding for activating of the Management
Unit (Cabina di Regia) in order to use all the resources foreseen in the ROP ERDF Axis II Energy: € 35.239.821,00
– € 3.239.821,00 for the redaction of Municipal Action Plan and for sensitization and training activities

Abruzzo Region Supporting Structures – Intermediate Body
Harmonizes and coordinates the activities of the provinces andmunicipalities, through the setting up of a “Management Unit”,
Coordinates and helps to fund the actions of provinces andmunicipalities in the context of national and Community initiatives,
Finds funding at the European and National framework for theimplementation of the actions foreseen in the Covenant of Mayors;
Performs animation for the promotion of renewable energy sourcesand energy saving.

Participate in the “Management Unit" set up by Abruzzo Region; Provide technical and financial support to municipalities for the
development of activities of the Covenant of Mayors; Coordinate the results of the Action Plans for Sustainable Energy
within their own general and sectorial planning; Financially support, also in terms of personnel, the implementation
of activities of the Agreement, in collaboration with Abruzzo Region
