COVENANT CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SUMMER READING PROGRAM

GRADES 6-8

As a school dedicated to excellence in all areas, Covenant Classical Christian School wants to assist parents in encouraging their children to develop a lifetime habit of reading. Research shows the reading level of a child can drop significantly during the summer months if reading is not practiced. In order to reinforce and maintain our students’ current skill levels, Covenant requires a summer reading program for all grades. We desire to stay within the realm of recreational reading and thus make choices available. We depend on parents to guide their children in choosing appropriate books at the appropriate reading level. Families having difficulty finding books listed should call the school office. Please find the individual grade level requirement listed below. This program is required and affects students' first quarter grades. More importantly, our hope is that students gain a love for literature that lasts a lifetime. Due the first day of class at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. Entering the Sixth Grade:

• The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C. S. Lewis. There will be a test on The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, at the beginning of the school year.

• Read other books on your reading level and interest for a total of 600 pages. Type two one-page summaries (double-spaced, Times New Roman-12 font) on two books of your choice. Include an introductory sentence that will draw the reader's attention, a written short summary of the book, and conclude the summary with some thoughts on spiritual insight. What biblical truth did you learn from the book?
