You all know your stuff, but a little extra preparation can go a long way from turning a 70% into an 80%, an 80% to a 90% so on and so forth. I. Social Scientists

Directions: Read the description of the event below. Then read the three quotes that follow it. Write if it is being said by an economist, political scientist, archeologist, or anthropologist. Be sure to underline any big ideas as you read! On the morning of September 11, Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There were no survivors from any of the flights.

White indentured servants came from all over England. Men, women, and sometimes children signed a contract with a master to serve a term of 4 to 7 years. During the time of his indenture, however, the servant was considered his master’s personal property and his contract could be inherited or sold.

The Mayflower Compact

The Separatists (who we sometimes call the Pilgrims) came to the New Worlds for religious freedom. Before they landed their ship, they sat down and wrote the Mayflower Compact. This was an agreement between the colonists to work together and follow the rules that the majority created. Settlers consented to follow the rules and regulations of the government for the sake of survival. The government, in return, would derive its power from the consent (permission) of the governed.
