What is this course about? 1.1 Course description Projects, whether small or large, simple or complex, can be managed effectively through the application of key management processes and deployment of specific skills. Through real world case studies you are introduced to the principles, concepts and processes of project management and their application in both the business and public sectors. The course stresses that project management involves a range of interactive and iterative processes requiring the application of core management skills for successful project achievement. Goal: To display an understanding of project management concepts. Product: Test Format: This Project Management basic knowledge test will be conducted under exam conditions

during the Week 4 Lecture. The test will examine your comprehension and understanding of Project Management, terminology, principles, processes and practice as covered in the course to date. The format of the exam will include multiple choice and short answer questions.

Assessment Task 2: Project Plan

Goal: To demonstrate an understanding of the practical application of project management planning.

Product: Project Plan Format This is a group assessment.

In this task you will, in response to a Request For Proposal (RFP), form a Project Team to negotiate with your Client (Tutor), create a Project Charter and subsequently supply your Client with a Project Plan. The project will be based on a hypothetical case study provided by the Course Coordinator. This project should be done as a group with a maximum of five per group, unless otherwise agreed to by the Course Coordinator. All group members must be within a single tutorial as time will be allocated for team meetings at certain tutorials. A schedule outlining key tasks and milestones for the completion of Task 2 will be provided on the MGT210 Blackboard site. Note: A single mark will be given to all team members. In the case of team member contribution disputes, the Course Coordinator may require evidence of individual contribution to the Project Plan to ascertain if the assignment of differing marks to individual team members is warranted (please keep evidence of your contribution to sections of the plan and hours involved).

Assessment Task 3a and 3b: Project Management Literature Research Project: 3 minute presentation and Literature Review Paper

Goal: To demonstrate an understanding of contemporary research into project management issues.

Product: Project Management Literature Research Project. Format: This is an individual assessment in two parts:

Task 3a - A 3 minute presentation (week 11 or 12 tutorial) outlining the literature review approach and identifying key themes of the literature review being undertaken. Task 3b - A 1,500 word (max) literature review paper (week 13) on your selected aspect of contemporary project management theory and practice.

non-academic reference sources (2000 or later)

5.3 Additional assessment requirements Plagiarism In order to minimise incidents of plagiarism and collusion, this course may require that some of its assessment tasks, when submitted to Blackboard, are electronically checked through SafeAssign. This software allows for text comparisons to be made between your submitted assessment item and all other work that SafeAssign has access to. Eligibility for Supplementary Assessment Your eligibility for supplementary assessment in a course is dependent of the following conditions applying: a) The final mark is in the percentage range 47% to 49.4% b) The course is graded using the Standard Grading scale c) You have not failed an assessment task in the course due to academic misconduct

5.4 Submission penalties Late submission of assessment tasks will be penalised at the following maximum rate:

• 5% (of the assessment task’s identified value) per day for the first two days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task.

• 10% (of the assessment task’s identified value) for the third day • 20% (of the assessment task’s identified value) for the fourth day and subsequent days up to and

including seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. • A result of zero is awarded for an assessment task submitted after seven days from the date

identified as the due date for the assessment task. Weekdays and weekends are included in the calculation of days late. To request an extension you must contact your course coordinator to negotiate an outcome. 6.
