It’s been over 18 months since version 12 was delivered to our customers. We’ve got a lot of response with bothpraise and criticism. To be able to develop our customers in phase with the world of technology in general, it comesto “be brave and dare to take out a little extra in the turns”. For our product and us the major development andexpansion not only follow the track of technology but also the line with our customers. In the phase with deve-lopment of product, usage is extended at the same time by covering other types of users and companies. It’s not

only engineers who work in the system any more, but also service personnel on the ground and people in office.

Next version which is launched in November 2015 has now been filled up with visualization of aspects on the datathat is added in the system. Our new feature Dashboard, contains a way to compile information of data and buildingblocks in your system. By integrating elMaster design and proMaster design to MasterExplorer, we now make it eveneasier to change data while you draw in CAD. Easier and more available.

Ides MasterConcept and doc-Master have been chosen to beimplemented as major platformfor applications, drawings anddocument for all facilities withinCounty Council Service in UppsalaRegion in order to secure all tech-nical documentation includingbuilding models, BIM in the future.County Council in Uppsala Region(LSU), which is an facility manage-ment organization within CountyCouncil in Uppsala, has chosenIdes MasterConcept after assess-ments and official procurement.The application docMaster willmanage technical documentationfor all facility in the County as wellas being the central system formanaging hospital facility projects,new and refurbishing of existingfacilities.

Ides docMaster will be the docu-ment management system for about200 internal and 300 external users.LSU is running annually 200 – 300projects from small reconstructionsof existing properties to new con-structions of large properties. TodayLSU has approximately 100 000drawings and document that shallbe handled for users in Ides doc-Master. The number of documentswill significantly increase in the nea-rest future due to the current andplanned projects for example the“Academic Hospital”.

During the autumn 2015 Ides isdivided within business areas in orderto provide better focus. One of thosefocus area is Construction Industryfor the past two years due to thedemand of this industry has increasedsignificantly. Advanced 3D BIM-toolis now a completely integrated part ofMasterConcept. With MasterCon-cept you can now divide the pro-ject/3D-model in functional andstructural element/object. You mightsay that we tear apart the entiremodel in to small pieces and identifyeach element as one object. With thisyou can get a transparency of thewhole model and make calculationor searching independent of graphicalmodel. The 3D-model usually hasviews in 2D to support the construc-tion documentation or for detaileddesign is places where it’s needed. The2D views can be added in to a Sheetwhere a drawing frame is added to

become a Dynamic 2D drawing thatis automatically updated in phasewith the change of the 3D model.Users mostly want to export the 2DSheet in to files in order to make theblue print for document distributionto different stakeholders during theproject or in the construction phase.MasterConcept now takes over therevision control directly inside the 3Dapplication and handles also theexport as well as transformationfrom 3D model to a 2D document.The 2D-exported files become realdocuments with document numberand Meta data completely automatic.It not only gives new opportunities tothe project and revision control ofexporter document files but also aplatform for the operation manage-ment to work in.

What is BIM?

Building Information Modeling

(BIM) has become a concept for allwho are involved in design within theconstruction industry. It became theequal sign between 3D models andBIM, but the development showsthat the fact is not so. The Term“Modelling” is a generic term for theAbstract information about the totalDigital model of the building or con-struction. Both 2D and 3D modelsare components within the Digitalabstract model called BIM, but it isnot just like that. If we add moredimensions such as time and cost, theconstruction Industry has declaredwhat they call 4D and 5D but anyo-ne realize that documentation such aswarranty, control systems controllingthe indoor climate are all a part of thetotal Model.

The new standardis named as IEC/ISO 81346-12. Thelast digits -12 refers to BIM area.There is guidance for how you canstructure the structural elements inmodel such as walls, windows,columns, ceilings. Meanwhile youcan structure all functional element insystem areas such as ventilation, freshwater and waste water. With the newversion of MasterConcept we addi-tionally revise designation manage-ment in order to get in sync with thenew standard. For those of you who use elMasterDesign on laptops with small screensthere are some tweaks one can do toimprove the drawing area. Minimi-zing toolbars to improve the dra-wing area can also be useful forthose users who spend a lot of timereviewing drawings.

1. Size of ribbon can be set to textonly menu, a compromise or a fullsize ribbon page. If you prefer howelMaster Design looked prior to theintroduction of ribbon you canmimic that appearance using thissetting. If you are reviewing and donot intend to work with the dra-wings you can save even more scre-en area with RIBBONCLOSE tohide the ribbon. Use RIBBON toshow it again.

2. Ides Toolpalette can be docked. Ifyou by accident close it you can haveit opened again using IDESTOOL-PALETTE.

3. Hide the command line withCtrl+9 or COMMANDLINEHIDE.As an alternative one can undock itto have it floating in the drawingarea which allows for a larger dra-wing area.
