“A Counting We Will Go”

Lesson Objective:

Interactive Dialogue• Using prior knowledge used in the Counting With My Friends song,

ask the children how many fingers they have on both hands? Count fingers 1 through 10.

• Using the large number pages, ask for volunteers to count to 5; 10; 15; 20.

• Count all the children as they get in a row. Then, have the boys count the girls as they get in a row. Reverse the process. Next, count all the children with a certain identification; long hair; short hair; shorts; etc.

• Introduce the straws and ask the children how many they think there are. Count the straws with the children up to 20.

• Engage them in counting as many different things as possible to reinforce the value of knowing how to count (i.e. buttons on a shirt, flowers on shorts, door knobs in the room, etc.).

•color the numbers and use for further classroom discussion.

• Ask the children if they know the song A Hunting We Will Go. Sing it with the children.•
