In my opinion, the main cause of counter culture happened between Malaysian youth is because of peer pressure. Firstly, let me elaborate what is peer pressure. According to Merriam Webster online dictionary peer pressure is defined as a feeling that you must do the same things as other people of your age and social group in order to be liked or respected by them. So as a youth, I feel the main cause that sparked counter culture is peer pressure. Youth will always have the need the friends are doing so that they are not left out. They will be willing to do it even though it may harm them as long as they are accepted in their peer circle. For example, the counter culture that is happening in Malaysia would be the mat-rempits. Mat-rempits are like a bunch of youths wasting their time, racing their bikes in a dangerous way. It is becoming a trend as their stunts are getting scarier and dangerous. They will be wasting their time involving in illegal racing and risking their life and their future. This counter culture started from peer pressure. Because a friend or a group have joined, the rest has no choice but to join in. f they did not join in they would be ostracized or alienated from the group. For example, Alis friends had joined the illegal racing and will be racing every day. Ali feels compelled to join as if he did not do it, they will be taunting him coward. Is one reason reason is enough for him to do the illegal racing and imagine so many youth joining because of their friends. Thus, this is what creates a counter culture. In conclusion, as a youth myself, the main reason caused counter culture would be peer pressure.Counterculture is causing youths of today to lose their moral and their future. They are becoming rebellious and degrading their moral by participating in illegal stuffs such as bike racing. Their future is at risk can be thrown into prison or get hurt as it is dangerous. They are losing their moral values as well as they dont seem to listen to authorities nor their parents. Youths no more want to hear parents or elders advice. They do everything according their own ways and rules. Peer pressure seem to be more important than their own family. That is why I feel counterculture seem to affect youth nowadays. They seem to forget how it may impact our beloved nation. Youths are leaders of tomorrow for our nation. They should be mould and brought up the right way so that they can be a capable future leaders. But instead the counter culture seem to be spoiling them in the wrong way. Instead being a good student with good moral values and attitude, counterculture is making them to be bad and follow the negative ways. This will ruin our nation image as youths are the main elements in our country. If youth are becoming corrupted,what may become of our beloved nation?if youths are behaving immorally and destroying their future, how will they be able to lead the nation to greatness? That is why I feel counter culture is bringing down youth moral values and their future. Youths seem to be so caught up with the trend of following others that they dont realize that they are losing their identity and themselves by doing things that are forbidden and may harm their future. They dont think deep enough to see how their actions will affect our country as well.
