Be a Stress Manager
May 25-29
This week’s counseling topic is all about understanding, identifying and managing
stress.
What is stress?
Stress is our body’s reaction to change. When we feel angry, scared, nervous, or
worried, our brain sends out a signal to our body. Our body then releases a stress
hormone called cortisol that helps us respond to stress. If we get stressed often,
cortisol can build up in our body and it can be bad for our health.
How can we manage stress?
Noticing when you are feeling stressed is an important first step. Some stress is
good! Good stress helps motivate us to do our best, like when we study harder be-
cause we are nervous about a test. Bad stress, however, can cause us to make bad
choices, like over-eating, in an effort to avoid the problem or to make ourselves feel
better.
Positive strategies for managing stress include healthy eating, exercising, getting
plenty of sleep and making time for fun.
Challenge: What stresses you out? What strategies do you use to handle stress?
Complete the counseling pages in this week’s packet and share your responses with
someone at home.
As always, check out the Counseling tab under the Student section on Isom’s website.
https://ie.lynden.wednet.edu/for_students/counseling I will talk about this week’s work-
sheets in my weekly Youtube video.

¡Sea un Manejador de Estrés! Mayo 25-29
viosos, o preocupados, nuestro cerebro envía señales a nuestro cuerpo. Entonces
