STORY

TOP

Did you know that GPA-WI depends upon volunteers and donors in a variety of ways? While financial contributions to the organization can help cover the costs associated with various fees associated with greyhound adoption, volunteer time is equally as important. Because the actual adoption of a greyhound is only one step of the process, the second area in which GPA-WI relies on assistance from greyhound lovers is through foster homes. Learn how you can help with both of these efforts!

DonationsWhen you donate, not only will you brighten the day of an

adoptable greyhound looking for a home, but you’ll help GPA-WI continue its overall efforts to help transport, spay/neuter, microchip, coordinate and adopt greyhounds to loving homes.

Because GPA-WI is committed to keeping the adoption fee low in order to allow greyhounds to find their forever homes, we actually do not make money through adoptions. In fact, we lose money with each adoption because our costs for pre-adoption veterinary care of nearly $900 per dog greatly outweigh the adoption fee. Therefore, your financial support can make all the difference!

GPA-WI is a federally recognized non-profit, tax-exempt organization, relying solely upon volunteers for our efforts; we have no paid positions. 100 percent of your donation goes directly toward finding homes for ex-racing greyhounds. PayPal recurring donation

GPA-WI’s livelihood is dependent on donations from animal lovers and greyhound supporters like you. When you schedule a PayPal recurring donation, you can provide a financial contribution to GPA-WI each month, hassle-free: no need to pull out a checkbook or your credit card each month! With a recurring PayPal donation, you can choose your monthly donation amount — $10, $50 or whatever you like — and the donation can be canceled at any time. Amazon Smile setup

Love shopping online? Your Amazon purchases can help GPA-WI, and setting up your Amazon Smile account is as easy as 1, 2, 3, and setup takes about 20 seconds — we timed it! After you

Lend a Helping Hand, or Paw, to GPA-WIGPA-WI depends on your volunteer time and financial donations for its success

set up GPA-WI as your intended Amazon Smile charity, GPA-WI will receive 0.5% of all your purchases. Visit smile.amazon.com each time you shop in order for GPA-WI to benefit.

Note: When shopping using a mobile device, visit smile.amazon.com. The Amazon mobile app will not coordinate the Amazon Smile donation to GPA-WI.

But GPA-WI’s needs don’t end there: in addition to financial support, GPA-WI also relies on greyhound-savvy homes to help newly adopted greyhounds learn about and make a smooth transition into life as a pet.

Foster homesFinally, another way you can help GPA-WI is by opening your

home to a retired racer. GPA-WI relies on foster homes to help ex-racers learn about life in a home while awaiting adoption. While most greyhounds need just two-week foster stays, there are some that can be long-term fosters. If you have experience with greyhounds and would like to help a retired racer transition to home life, contact Jessica, the GPA-WI foster home coordinator, at [email protected].

The first step toward greyhound adoption is learning about greyhounds — which makes GPA-WI events an essential element in educating the general public and potential new adopters! And to make these events successful, a dedicated, creative and coordinated volunteer must work behind the scenes to plan and organize these events.

GPA-WI’s regional events coordinators are your points of contact for meet & greets in different areas of the state as well as GPA-WI’s participation in local pet festivals or adoption events, local area greyhound group walks, local GPA-WI fundraisers and much more.
