One of the best things about the COSTHA forum is the opportunity we have to

network with other companies. I did a lot of that and it will help our company,

no doubt. It is also great to put faces with people that I speak with regularly.

It will make future calls more personal. I was able to help other companies

with their issues.

TRANSPORT DANgEROuS gOODS CANADA REgulATIONS (TDg) TRAININgThe Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDG) and US Hazardous Materials Regulations of

Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) are similar, but not identical; most variations, but not all of them, are

dealt with by a reciprocal agreement that establishes procedures for cross-border shipments. This half-day training program will

provide an overview of the TDG regulations, and identify areas where reciprocity does and does not

apply. TDG Training is mandatory for all personnel preparing shipments, shipping, or receiving hazardous materials/dangerous

goods within, to, or from Canada.

• Legislation

• Definitions Responsibilities

• Training Requirements

• Limitations

• Classification & Shipping Names

• List of Dangerous Goods (Use of Schedules and Lists)

Course instruction by: Barbara Foster, ICC The Compliance Center, Inc.

HAzARDOuS MATERIAlS/DANgEROuS gOODS ClASSIFICATION TRAININgClassification and identification are the first and most critical steps to successful hazardous materials/dangerous

goods management and transport. Inaccurate identification begins a domino-effect of mistakes that can end in

serious injury to employees, carriers, emergency responders, or the general public. If a material has been classified

incorrectly, it will typically also be packaged, marked, labeled, and handled incorrectly and may be subject to penalties. This

course satisfies the initial and recurrent function-specific training under the DOT, ICAO/IATA and the IMDG Code

for individuals performing any classification and naming activities.

NOTE: The frequency of refresher training for the DOT is every three years but training is required every 24

months for ICAO/IATA.

Course instruction by: Dawn Anderson, DgI Training Inc.

Course Materials: Students will receive a course workbook package. Students will be required to bring their own copy of the current IATA (57th Edition) and 49 CFR (October 1, 2015 Edition) regulations. Call COSTHA at 518-761-0389 for special pricing oncode books required for this course.

lITHIuM BATTERY ROuNDTABlELithium batteries continue to be a challenge to industry and regulators. While regulatory discussions continue at

the UN, ICAO, and DOT, and the FAA conducts battery failure tests, new technologies are emerging that challenge

the regulatory setting. COSTHA members, the North American Automotive Hazmat Action Committee (NAAHAC),

Air Carrier Roundtable (ACR), retailers, battery manufacturers and shippers will find it beneficial to participate in this impor-

tant roundtable. The session is not intended as a training session, but recent regulatory changes will

be discussed and industry impacts shared. Come prepared to ask your questions and share your concerns about

the future of lithium battery regulations.

PACKAgINg ROuNDTABlE The purpose of the group is to allow package testing companies, manufacturers, and distributors to meet in an informal

setting to discuss current issues, regulations, questions, and a broad area of concerns. Members who purchase and use

packaging have also expressed interest in having an opportunity to interact with such a group to clarify regulatory

requirements, best management practices, and other subjects. The Roundtable will provide the opportunity for

companies to meet one-on-one or in a small group environment with regulators to discuss packaging related issues.

MExICO WORKSHOPThe United States is Mexico’s largest trading partner, buying 77.5% of Mexican exports in 2012. Total U.S. goods trade with Mex-

ico equaled USD 493 billion in 2012; 7% more than in 2011. Mexico exports more to the United States in

goods and services in just over a month than it does in one year to the 27 countries of the European Union.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. goods exports to Mexico were USD 216 billion in 2012, up 9% compared to

2011 and 31.9% from 2010. U.S. goods imports from Mexico in 2012 accounted for USD 277.5 billion, an increase of

5% over 2011 and 20% since 2010.

Many members have facilities in Mexico and/or are involved with cross-border transportation and have questions

and concerns about reciprocity and how the Mexican government aligns with the UN Model Regulations. In response,

COSTHA has engaged a well-known consultant and organized meetings with The Secretariat of Communications and Transporta-

tion of Mexico. This workshop will review previous projects and outline next steps.

lIFE SCIENCES ROuNDTABlEThe Life Sciences industry includes many fields such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, biomedical technologies,

cosmetics, food processing, and biomedical devices. The Life Sciences industry faces many issues during global

transportation beyond hazardous materials/dangerous goods. These include packaging, classification, cold chain

logistics, chain of custody, and trade compliance. Other types of regulations may also apply to global shipments,

including chemical control and customs regulations such as Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Drug Enforcement

Administration (DEA), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC),

and customs. This interactive roundtable will explore these common issues and the mechanisms that companies

employ to cover this maze of regulations facing global transportation.

gHS ROuNDTABlEOSHA published HazCom 2012 in March 2012 to adopt GHS and companies doing business in the US had until

June 1, 2015, to comply with the new standard. There are still questions and issues related to implementation and

the challenges for both workplace hazard communication and concerns for the relationship to transportation.

and listen to industry experts weigh in on possible solutions.

Forums like the COSTHA meeting have a value

to our business that is difficult to put into

"dollars and cents". It is very helpful to learn

about Dg issues in other modes of transport

that we don't usually get involved with. There

is a lot of valuable information to be gained

in a very short amount of time.
