Winter is almost over, so it is time to think about all of the springand summer sports and programs that we have to offer at yourCentral Corydon Community Centre.

I wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update on the statusof the amalgamation of Crescentwood, Sir John Franklin and RiverHeights that went into effect April of 2011. Since last spring we havebeen working very hard on a number of fronts. Hopefully you willhave participated in one of the many expanded programs that wehave been able to offer as a result of combining all the services of thethree sites. We are striving to make sure that we offer more choice atmore times throughout the week to better serve your needs.

It is also worth repeating that as a result of this amalgamation we willNOT be closing any of the three sites. In fact, over much of 2011 weworked on a project to do a thorough needs analysis of the area. Weconducted many meetings with all of the key user groups andnumerous community leaders to get a good sense of what we weredoing right, but also to determine gaps in programming and areaswe need to improve on. As a result of this needs assessment we have

started a process to look at what each of our three sites will require inway of facility improvements to meet these growing and changing needs.

It is our intent that in the near future we will have some plans toshare with you to show what these facilities enhancements mightlook like. Issues like accessibility, more programmable space, improved fields and fixing up our River Heights arena are all keypriorities we are focused on.

The Annual General Meeting is coming up on May 30th at 7:00 pm(River Heights Site). I would like to extend an invitation to you tocome out and learn more about the work that has been done and ofcourse, what lies ahead. As always, we are looking for help at thecommittee level, so please call Jim Carson at 488-7000 if you have anarea of interest that you feel you could help us with.

Best Regards,Pat O’ConnorPresident

sportsWelcome Central Corydon Sports Participants, Parents, Fansand Spectators,

Please note the below policies that blanket all sportsprograms at C4:

Sport Team FormationsAll teams are formed based on the number of registeredplayers - if numbers warrant, 2 or 3 teams may be formed inone age group in certain sports. If teams are playing in thesame division they will be as equally balanced as possible. Ifnumbers are such that there are too many to be placed onone team but not enough for an additional team to beformed, then players will have to be transferred to the nextcommunity centre needing players. The method used todecide which players are to be transferred is:

1. Late Registrations2. Volunteers to transfer3. Players from outside Central Corydon catchment4. Lottery

Any player registering late has no guarantee of a position on a Central Corydon CC Team.

Uniform DepositsBasketball $100Baseball $100Football $300 (Uniform & Equipment)Soccer $100Softball $100

*All participants will be required to leave a post-dated chequeat the time of registration dated for October 31st, 2012. Ifuniforms are not returned, this cheque will be cashed.

baseballBaseball (hardball) is for boys and girls ages 5-18. The baseballseason runs from the beginning of May through June withgames usually scheduled during weekday evenings. We offerdevelopmental teams for children and youth who have notplayed before as well as more competitive teams for thosewho have.

Baseball teams are travelling teams. Usually a team plays thesame number of home and away games. Because of playernumbers, some players may be asked to play for teams fromother community centres. The playoff format has not yet beendetermined, but other than playoff teams, everyone finishesby the end of June.

Team SelectionPlayer tryouts/evaluations and team selections for Mosquito,Peewee, Bantam and Midget will take place as early in April asweather permits. Independent evaluators will be used. Teamswill be formed and team practices will start in late April orearly May. You will be contacted by a volunteer afterregistration with a specific time, date and location of yourtryout/evaluation time.

Pre-Season ClinicsDetails on the schedule of the Winnipeg South Minor BaseballAssociation clinics have not been finalized. In the past theyoccurred near the end of March. Please contact the centre formore details.

Rally Cap/RookieBoth of these programs are tons of fun for the kids. They focuson learning the game in a non-competitive environment. Ifyou have any questions about the programs, please contactthe centre. Rally Cap is a parent run program so severalvolunteers are required.

UmpiresOlder players (13+) may want to consider umpiring. It's funand the pay is great! Please contact the office for details ofupcoming clinics.

AAA BaseballAny player wishing to play for the Winnipeg South Chiefsmust register at C4 before they will be allowed to attendtryouts. Details on tryouts can be found atwww.ballcharts.com/wschiefs.

EquipmentPlayers are required to provide their own gloves, battinghelmets and baseball pants. Bats will be provided for all agegroups except Midget. Midget players are encouraged topurchase their own wooden bats this year.

Late RegistrationsWe try to have 12 -14 players per team and registration will becut off at that point. Late registrations will not be accepted ifthere are not enough coaches. Late registrations, if accepted, will be subject to a $20 Late Fee over and above theregistration fee.

Volunteer OpportunitiesAs coaches and volunteers are needed for all teams, there willbe a sign-up sheet at registration. Most teams will need ascorekeeper, pitch counter, manager, first aid person, equipment manager, someone to install the bases before eachgame, coaches, and if possible, someone who can umpire ifthe scheduled umpire cannot make it. All of these positionsare volunteer positions. If we do not have volunteers to helpout, the kids don't play. Please keep in mind that we needvolunteers when you register. Knowledge of baseball is not apre-requisite to volunteering. All coaches are required tocomplete the Respect in Sport training from Sport Manitoba. It is free and on-line.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGNMany of our community members have asked for progress updates onthe facilities improvements that we have discussed over the past severalmonths. You will recall that at our community meetings and at our firstAnnual General Meeting we shared some concept drawings for what wefeel needs to be done at each of our sites. These concept drawings areintended to show that we have been working hard to understand whatphysical changes need to be made at our sites in order to accommodatewhat our community needs are.

Any changes to the actual facilities or fields will be as a direct result ofwhat we have identified as required in order to handle the new pro-gramming that you, our community, have told us we need to offer. Wewill be working with our professional advisors to help us identify thecosts for these changes and once we have this confirmed, we will beholding meetings to share this work with you.

It is anticipated that we will have great support for this developmentwork from the various levels of government, however, we also realizewe will need to be asking for financial support from those in ourcommunity that are able to help.

At this point if you have experience in working on a major fundraisingor capital campaign, we would like to hear from you. We are in the veryearly stages of beginning to understand what we will need to do, andare looking for your expertise to help us with this process. We are veryoptimistic that we will have great success when we do go out to thecommunity for financial support, in that we have done a great deal of
