Abstract

•This study examined the correlation between eating habits and the nutritional status of PNU-ITL Grade 7 to Grade 10 students. The respondents were given a fifteen item questionnaire and basic anthropometric information to identify their eating habits and current nutritional status.

Abstract

•Based on the findings and analyses of the data gathered, there is a strong positive correlation between eating habits and the nutritional status of PNU-ITL students. The study proved that positive eating habits reflects a good nutritional status of the respondents.

Objectives

1. To identify the correlation between the eating habits and the nutritional status of PNU-ITL grade 7 to grade 10 students.

2. To be acquainted with the most common eating habits of the students.

3. To increase the level of awareness of the persons involved in the research most especially the students upon having eating habits suitable for them to acquire good nutrition they need for their increasing level of growth and development.

Respondents

•The respondents in the research is randomly selected which comprises the 25% of the total population in each age group of PNU-ITL students, male and female, ages ten to sixteen years old. These respondents belong to Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9 and Grade 10, respectively.

1. What are the current nutritional status of PNU- ITL adolescent student.

2. What are the common eating habits of PNU-ITL students?

3. Is there a significant relationship on the eating habits and the nutritional status of the students?

Findings and Analysis

BMI 16.5 -18.4 = 14 out of 70 respondents(Underweight) = 20% of the population

BMI 18.5 – 24.9 = 45 out of 70 respondents(Normal) = 64.3% of the population

BMI 25 – 30.5 = 9 out of 70 respondents(Overweight) = 12.85% of the population

BMI 30.6 above = 2 out of 70 respondents(Obese) = 2.85% of the population

1. What are the current nutritional status of PNU- ITL adolescent student.

The study shows a normal BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 of PNU-ITL students in general.

A weighted mean of 20.26 to 23.26 BMI value from grade 7, grade 8, grade 9, and grade 10 have acquired by the researcher from its respondents.

2. What are the common eating habits of PNU-ITL students?

•eating breakfast daily = 68.57% of the respondents

•eating dinner at home = 72.86% of the respondents

•eating three base meals per day = 80% of the respondents

3. Is there a significant relationship on the eating habits and the nutritional status of the students?

•There is a strong positive correlation between eating habits and the nutritional status of PNU-ITL students.

Conclusion

•The findings reported in this thesis revealed that the respondents in this descriptive research significantly showed a strong positive correlation between their eating habits and their nutritional status. In other words, students with good eating habits acquire a normal nutritional status.

Conclusion

•The result of the present study also inveterate the strong positive correlation between eating habits the nutritional status of PNU-ITL students in secondary level. Finally, the participants in the experimental group preferred eating breakfast daily, eating three base meals per day and eating dinner at home as their most common eating habits.

Conclusion

•This result on participants preference in their eating habits corresponds to their normal and good nutritional status gained in questionnaires.

Recommendation

•The PNU-ITL should give priority attention in seeking ways to bolster the ability of the study to contribute to understanding of health disparities among children in different grade level and other population groups, including the reassessing of the school canteens and cafeterias to oversee this area and the encouragement of appropriate adjunct studies.
