December.

Prizes include:

2 x Mountain Bike (Boys & Girls) valued at around $300 each

1 Term’s School Fees

Please have all tickets (and raffle money) returned to the school office by Wednesday morning, 16th

December.

We have a number of items that are still unclaimed in our Lost Property Tubs located outside the staff room.

All items that are unclaimed will be forwarded to our second uniform shop by Monday 14th

December.

A reminder that our school banking program will conclude this week. There will be no student banking in the

last week of school.

obtained through the school

the case last year, half of the donations will be packed and forwarded to the St Vincent De Paul Society’s

Christmas Hamper Appeal and the other half will be used to create some hampers for our annual Christmas

your donations.

End of Year Reports & Student Portfolio

This Friday your children will bring home their End of Year Report and Student Portfolio. Please take the

time to read the report while making reference to the Portfolio so as to gain a clear picture of your child’s

achievements.

Over the past couple of weeks we have had the opportunity to engage in conversation with teachers (as part of

our Performance Development/School Improvement Processes) in regards to the achievements and

performance of every child in their care.

It has been amazing to see the growth in each child as evident in the array of data collected, collated, analysed

and discussed. The Student Report and the Student Portfolio which will both be distributed at the end of this

week will no doubt illustrate these achievements as well as brief you on future learning goals.

I’m sure you will take the time and opportunity to celebrate with your child his/her successes. I hope you

enjoy exploring the Student Portfolios, which are now yours to keep, as a record of your child’s learning.

As this is the last Newsletter for the year I would like to congratulate all our beautiful children on their

achievements throughout the year. You should be proud of your efforts and be looking forward to your next

stage in learning.

Book Club Report December 2015

This year our Scholastic Book Club has raised approximately $1500 in credits/rewards for our school which is

absolutely fantastic! Approximately $1200 of this has been used to re-stock our ‘take home book’ supply.

Thank you to all families who have supported Book Club throughout the year and thank you to Carmel Frith

and Kaylene Linsley for co-ordinating this initiative.

Year 3/4 Zoo Exhibit

On Wednesday the Year 3/4 community was transformed into a zoo to celebrate and showcase the learning

and knowledge gained through their Inquiry unit Survival of the Fittest.

Zoo talks were held multiple times throughout the day by our highly trained zoo

keepers and the 'animals' were very cooperative when demonstrating physical

features and survival techniques used in the wild.

The Zoo Talks covered a range of animals such as endangered and extinct animals

(yes, we were lucky enough to observe the thylacine!), tigers and lions, sea

creatures, bears, penguins and whales just to name a few. Students and members

from the community learned all about the diet, habitat and threats and dangers of

the various animals.

Year 5/6 Genius Hour Expo

Our final Year 5/6 Genius Hour Expo was another huge success! Our students

certainly showcased their amazing array of talents. Each term's expo has just

become better and better and it’s a credit to all involved.

Uniforms

A reminder that uniforms for our 2016 Year Prep children will be available for collection from Monday

morning of next week.

End of Year Picnic/ Concert /Graduation Next Wednesday 16

th December we celebrate the end of the 2015 school year with our traditional Christmas

Concert/Picnic/Graduation ceremony. The celebration will take place in the courtyard area and all families are

invited to attend.

The school grounds will be open from 5:30 pm for families to set up a picnic rug and deck chairs to enjoy

dinner together (BYO). Our PFA will also be running a sausage sizzle between 5:30 & 6:30pm. So that our

wonderful parent volunteers can enjoy the rest of the evening, the BBQ will cease at 6:30pm.

At 6:30pm children from Years Prep-6 will present our End of Year Concert: Follow the Christmas Star. Over

the next couple of weeks children will be working hard practising their song for their part of the Christmas

Story.

Afterwards our Year 6 children will be acknowledged as our graduating class of 2015, the end of year

Christmas raffle will be drawn and families leaving the school this year will also be acknowledged.

The night is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the year and there might even be a special visit from a ‘man

in red’. Hope to see you all there!

We still need some BBQ helpers so if you are available to assist please complete and return the attached reply

slip.

To all the children of Corpus Christi. Thank you for your friendliness, your hard work, and the

cheerful way in which you have joined in ‘school life

To John Styzinski for his tireless work in school maintenance

Finally, thank you to all our staff, whose efforts often go unrewarded. I am grateful to all of them for

their dedicated work and proud of their achievements as they continue to learn and grow in their

profession.

And finally I would like to wish each and every one of you a very safe and happy holiday. May the Christmas

season fill your home with joy, your heart with love and your life with laughter.

OSHClub News After School Care Program

Hi families; Here we are in the second-last week of the school year! Our Christmas tree looks beautiful and is getting more elaborately decorated by the day. We've had some lovely Christmas crafts already this week: some beautiful cards, silver stars to hang around the room, and paper snowflakes for that Northern hemisphere Christmas touch. On Friday we will be making gingerbread, which I've never done before - should be interesting (and delicious). Emilia and I send out a big "thank you" to Olivia Anderson, Daniela Marano and Sophie Aitchison for treating us to some of their Genius-Hour bruschetta last week - they were fabulous! Next week is the last week of term. On Thursday, the last day of school, we will be running the program from 1pm when the children finish school. Please book your children in online and provide them with their usual lunch. We will be spending the day celebrating the year, looking forward to next year and winding down for the holidays. During the week we'll be doing some more Christmas crafts, dancing, playing games and flying kites (as requested by Tom Connally.) We have lots of the children's artworks that we have saved throughout the year which we would like to give to families for Christmas! I will try to remember to hand them out, but please feel free to remind us if we forget to offer them to you - things get pretty busy for us at this time of year. We also have collections of learning observations that we have written about each child throughout the year - let us know if you would like to see them or have copies made. I would love to hear ideas from children and families about activities, themes, or other ideas for the OSHClub After School Care program for 2016. We wish every Corpus Christi family a Merry Christmas, and a happy and safe holiday season. REMINDERS: If you need to cancel ASC please do so on the internet by the previous evening, leave a message on 0401 501 661 on the day, or pop in to let staff know you are collecting your child so that we know where the children are. OSHClub is open 3:00-6:00pm. There is a $2/minute fee for each child that is picked up after 6pm.

WORDS Michael Grose

© 2015 Michael Grose

It’s a (Christmas)

WRAP!It’s that time of year again! The school year is

almost over. The Christmas holidays are just

around the corner.

“Where did the last twelve months go?”

That’s the adult viewpoint. Kids think, “What

took so long?” Diff erent ages, diff erent

perspectives.

Kids generally want to plunge into

holidays, leaving schoolwork, timetables and

teachers behind. That’s only natural.

But before they get too far into holiday

mode, consider how you’ll round out the

year, and bring it to a close. If your child is

fi nishing primary or secondary school then

there will be a graduation ceremony that

signals the end of one phase of their school

lives.

The greater importance given to school

graduation ceremonies over the last few

decades is recognition of the human need

to bring closure to one stage of life, and

prepare for the next.

Kids of all ages benefi t from parental

recognition of their achievements and

successes as it sets the stage for the coming

school year.

Here are a few ideas to help you close off the old year to prepare for the year ahead:

1 Discuss the highlights and the lowlights of the year:

Ask kids to name their highlights, favourite

times or most memorable moments of

the year just gone. Use age appropriate

language and questions that will open them

up, rather than shut them down. At the

year’s end I would ask my school-aged kids

to rate the year from 1 to 5, and to identify

their best memory, their favourite subject

and something new that they encountered.

These questions worked for me, but each

parent needs to fi nd their own approach.

2 Celebrate improvement and success:Identify one or two areas where they

excelled, improved or overcame some

challenges. Broaden the focus away from

just academic performance and recognise

achievement in social, sport or arts areas.

It’s important for kids who struggle

academically to understand that you value

success in a variety of areas.

3 Show appreciation:Consider how they can show appreciation to

teachers, coaches or other people who may

have assisted them during the year. Not only

is it good manners to show gratitude, but

some kids need reminding that other people

contribute to their achievements.

4 Look forwardIt maybe benefi cial to give your kids a

chance to vent about some aspect of the

year that they didn’t like, found diffi cult

or challenging. Try to limit this type of

discussion so that it doesn’t end in a whinge

session and point them toward a better

future next year.

5 Now relaxIt’s time for them to set the previous school

year aside, put their feet up and chill out over

the school break. Remember, if the previous

year wasn’t one of your child’s best, the fi ve

to six week break gives him or her a chance

to make a fresh start next year.

So it’s a wrap! The slate has been wiped

clean. Enjoy the break and see you next year!

How will you close up the school year and set the scene to make next year your child’s best year ever?
