Shin-Etsu Polymer will celebrate its 60th anniversary in
September 2020. We deeply appreciate the support of
our customers, shareholders and other stakeholders
who made that possible.
Shin-Etsu Polymer started out in 1960 as a resin
processing subsidiary of the Shin-Etsu Chemical Group.
We develop raw materials with the Shin-Etsu Chemical
Group and then apply our integrated technological
capabilities for molding processes to provide
high-value-added products using silicone rubber and
various plastics. In addition, we have manufacturing
facilities and sales offices around the world that meet a
wide range of customer needs in areas such as
automobiles, information devices, office automation
equipment, semiconductor-related products, medical
and chemical products and construction-related products.
We will continue to provide products that contribute
to society by developing new technologies with our
core technologies to solve customer issues and meet
their needs.
Even though this year, which marks our 60th
anniversary, is one of rapid changes in the social
environment, by working to achieve sustainable growth
we will further strengthen our business foundation and
fulfill our social responsibilities. We will accomplish this

Shin-Etsu Polymer was established in 1960 as a manufacturer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. Since then, we have developed applications using silicone and various plastics for our fundamental technologies involving materials and compounding, design, molding processes, and evaluation and analysis. As a manufacturer of molded plastic products, we meet diverse customer needs in a wide array of fields from automobiles and information devices to semiconductors and construction materials.
At the heart of Shin-Etsu Polymer’s technological development are fundamental technologies involving materials and compounding, design, molding processes, and evaluation and analysis. Key materials include silicone rubber, plastics and conductive materials. Based on these key materials and by conducting multifaceted development of the core technologies we have cultivated over many years, we provide high-value-added products that meet diverse customer needs in a wide range of fields.

We are aiming for business expansion by offering solutions such as automotive input devices and display device products. In automotive key
switches, we have continued to earn customer trust over many years by meeting expectations, and have an excellent reputation in
the industry.
We supply touch switches that use the capacitance method. They incorporate our high-precision printing technology – using our
proprietary transparent conductive polymer as an electrode to meet customer needs for new input devices. Targeting expansion in new
businesses and markets, we also propose development of other display-related products.
By adding printing technology and composite technology to our core technologies developed for interconnectors, we can offer distinctive products in a variety of fields.
Based on analysis technologies and material technologies for silicone rubber, which has various unique attributes, our interconnectors are
widely used in connections for LCDs, and as connectors for electronic devices. By adding printing technology to our molding technology and
composite technology with different materials, we are able to develop a variety of unique products. These products have an excellent
reputation for simplicity and repairability to meet needs for connections in electronic devices, which are becoming smaller and thinner.

Device Manufacturers
Wafer manufacturers use front-opening shipping boxes (“FOSB”) for wafer shipments, and device manufacturers use front-opening
unified pods (“FOUP”) to hold wafers during process handling. Evaluation technologies, clean environment control technologies,
precision molding technologies, and design technologies that accurately meet sophisticated customer requirements are technological
strengths of Shin-Etsu Polymer. As the leading supplier of semiconductor-related wafer containers, Shin-Etsu Polymer maintains a large
share of the FOSB and FOUP markets.
Embossed carrier tape can handle substrate mounting of various electronic devices, including the miniaturized electronic devices used
in mobile devices, large-scale semiconductor packaging, and connector mechanisms to electronic components for automobiles that
must be reliable. Our various top cover tapes have an excellent market reputation because we can match virtually any application to
enable reliable substrate packaging.
We have also developed 4mm-wide 1mm-pitch (0201/0402) embossed carrier tape for the micro ceramic capacitors used in smartphones
and other high-performance mobile devices. This product has a strong reputation for its environmental performance such as in clean
mounting and reduced use of materials.
In the Medical & Chemical Products business, we use advanced materials to offer solutions based on our unique silicone processing
technology in response to requests from medical equipment manufacturers worldwide.
We also deploy our unique compounding and precision molding technologies in silicone rubber roller products used in office
equipment to provide the functions required in various components.

developed over many years. Construction materials made of PVC resin and silicone are used in a variety of ways in our daily lives.
In anticipation of the ongoing aging of infrastructure, Shin-Etsu Polymer also develops and manufactures infrastructure maintenance
materials. Maintenance work must be performed simply and quickly while the structure or facility is still in operation. Silicone products,

acoustic and fatigue characteristics, and is widely used in applications such as
smartphone speaker diaphragms. We are also working to broaden its use in other
applications that require properties such as heat resistance and chemical resistance.

Biodegradable “Runner Clip”This convenient clip made from biodegradable materials is used for fixing items to the ground, and is suitable for applications such as strawberry cultivation. Being biodegradable, it naturally decomposes in the soil, making retrieval unnecessary.

In addition to our core products of commercial food wrapping films used in supermarkets and elsewhere, we also offer various items
that are a common part of daily life such as “Pop Wrap” film for containers and packaging and parchment paper that is useful when
cooking. Through the film business, we proactively conduct an environmental load reduction program that aims to reduce waste and
household trash.

Since our founding, we have refined the core technologies we have cultivated based on fundamental technologies backed by our extensive experience and knowledge as a manufacturer of molded plastic products, and deployed these technologies to both improve our core products and develop new products in a multifaceted way. We apply our compounding technology for functional resins, such as conductive materials, and our precision microfabrication processing technology to develop innovative products. Our integrated development system from design to evaluation enables us to utilize various market channels, which in turn enables us provide high-value-added products.

This department looks at growth industries and determines commonalities with the technologies we possess and seeks to uncover technologies we lack. Based on this information, it formulates medium-to-long-term technology strategies, including technical tie-ups and M&A, and conducts technology research. It also expands the Group’s intangible assets by filing for and utilizing industrial property rights in line with intellectual property strategies.

Working in close cooperation with customers, these departments strengthen the competitiveness of existing
businesses by conducting research and development and quickly updating the production environment to respond promptly to market changes. This division works to expand applications of the Company’s core technologies such as its silicone processing technologies. It also supports the engineering and production activities of production bases worldwide and monitors the development of facilities for next-generation production that incorporates IoT, artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies.▶ Quality Assurance● Office of Quality Assurance
This is the main unit in charge of the Group’s global quality assurance. It formulates basic policies and strategies for quality assurance, supervises quality assurance organizations in each region and operating base, and directs the execution of specific plans and strategies. In addition, the office has established a system to check the quality of products in development when moving them into mass production to enable a quick transition to mass production.
Intellectual Property InitiativesThe Shin-Etsu Polymer Group recognizes that patents, technological know-how and other intellectual properties are key management assets. Accordingly, we set intellectual property strategies for each business field with a different business model and promote the full use of “offensive” and “defensive” intellectual property management to support the development of new markets and new customers. For “offensive” management, the Intellectual Property Department works together as one with the Sales Unit, the Development Unit and the Production Unit to promote measures such as strategic patent filing and registration of industrial property rights, which we actively use to gain a competitive edge in the market. For “defensive” management, we conduct measures such as increasing our global research activities and dealing with intellectual property life cycle management and intellectual property-related agreements, based on respect for the industrial property rights of other companies. We also conduct educational and awareness-building activities such as ongoing intellectual property training to raise the level of our intellectual property activities. Shin-Etsu Polymer’s “shupua” is a high-quality, high-performance glass
with glass-like transparency that is made from silicone. Created
in cooperation with Shin-Etsu Chemical, Co., Ltd. this product is the
first material in its class with satisfactory strength, adhesion, stretch
and transparency.
This product resembles glass but is soft and will not break if dropped.
It has low thermal conductivity, so it can hold cold substances without
condensation and hot substances without discomfort to the touch.
Shin-Etsu Polymer’s “shupua” is truly a breakthrough glass.
