Seniors: Official transcripts will be ready to send to colleges/universities soon. Be sure and request your mid-year transcript through Naviance. ACTIVITIES/CLUBS/CLASSES Activities: Stay up to date on all CDS Activities by following us on Instagram @cdsactivities or visit the Activities page on the CDS website! https://www.tempeunion.org/Page/2960. Band: Congratulations to the 45 Corona del Sol Band students who successfully auditioned into the AMEA West Regional Honor Band and Orchestra (the most in the region!) The band also had 12 alternates. The festival will be held February 14-15 at Skyline HS. Choir: The CdS Jaztecs, Corona’s top choral ensemble, is currently attending the Northern Arizona University’s annual Jazz and Madrigal Festival in Flagstaff, AZ. The festival is attended by over 140 high school choirs from Arizona and beyond. The Jaztecs is a class of 20 talented students who meet daily during 0 hour. The choir will perform twice on the festival. They will sing a 15-minute set of classical choral music, and another 15-minute set of vocal jazz. The students will receive workshops from collegiate teachers and professional singers. On the way to Flagstaff, the students always stop in Sedona to sing in the picturesque Chapel on the Rocks, a tradition that began roughly 30 years ago before Mr. Hebert started at Corona in 1994. The chapel is known for its spectacular views and the amazing acoustics.

Corona is a part of the West Region, one of eight regions in the state of Arizona. Each year, music students from around the state compete for a spot in their respective regional honor band, choir, and orchestra. This year, CdS Choir placed 47 students in the West Region Honor Choir. There are only 100 spots, so Corona makes up almost half of the choir. The audition consists of singing a classical art song and sight-singing in front of an adjudicator. The concert is held at Skyline High School in Mesa on February 15 at 3:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5. Comp Gov: Corona del Sol's We the People team is headed to Nationals, April 23 - April 28. Please consider making your Tax Credit Donation to Youth in Government Club to help fund our trip. CTE: CTE teachers and staff would like to remind you to encourage your student taking a CTE class to complete the CTE program as you discuss courses for next year. Most CTE programs are two-year programs, meaning the student must complete two years of course work in the program to complete. Students that complete get to take an Industry Certification exam (example: Quickbooks Certified User Exam for Accounting Program Completers). Students will be registering for courses for next year very soon. If students are unsure what class they should take next, please ask them to speak with their CTE teacher. Robotics: State Farm's Tempe location on Tempe Town Lake will have high school internships available this summer in the area of software development. Please go to statefarm.com/careers and navigate through the ‘become an employee’ button, then ‘find jobs’, and finally search using ‘11075’ as the keyword search. Students will need to create a profile prior to applying. Application for the internship closes on Feb. 21. Robotics is always seeking funding sources and tax-credit donations are one of the best ways you can contribute. Individuals may donate up to $200 and joint couples may donate up to $400, which returns to you when you file your Arizona taxes. For more information, contact Mr. Heiser, [email protected].

ATHLETICS Tryouts: Spring sport tryouts begin Monday, February 10. Please make sure to have your RMA account complete. In action: It’s Senior night for the boys’ soccer team, so please come out tonight to cheer on our Aztecs as they play host to Mountain Pointe. Girls basketball takes on DV tonight at home. Wrestling Sectionals are at Desert Vista this weekend. Come out and cheer on the wrestlers as they compete to qualify for State, which is February 13-14 in Prescott. Female wrestler Sierrah Thrun has qualified for State Finals February 14 - 15 in Prescott. Please check the online calendar for all of next week's events. https://www.tempeunion.org/Page/1578. PARENT COMMUNICATIONS: AcLab: Students should sign up for an AcLab starting Friday after 2:15 pm until Tuesday before 3 pm. Students should receive an email at their CDS school email address confirming their AcLab choice for Wednesday. Attendance Auto-Call: If you receive an automatic call stating your student missed first hour and you know you have already called to excuse your student, please disregard the auto-call. There is no need to call us again. Due to the high volume of attendance calls, it may take us a couple of hours to listen to your message/excuse your student. Attendance Line: When your student is absent, please remember to call the Attendance office within 48 hours of the absence. Always include your student’s ID number. Attendance Policy: High school attendance is ultimately the responsibility of the student family. It is important parents and students recognize the direct relationship that exists between academic success and regular school attendance. Students should remain out of school only when necessary. Students are allowed 10 absences (excused or unexcused) per semester. The eleventh total absence may result in loss of credit, unless there are extenuating circumstances. School-related absences do not count toward your student’s total absences. Calculators: The CDS Math department recommends purchasing a Texas Instruments 84 TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator. If you have any concerns, please email Don Guess at [email protected]. No item holds: The Corona del Sol front office does not hold items for students to pick up, including lunch. The exception is your student’s ID. Please arrange to meet your student between classes to give them other items during passing periods. Please call us at 480.752.8888 to find out the correct passing times. Online enrollment – new students: If you have a current student at Corona and need to enroll an incoming freshman for the 2020-2021 academic school year, please click on the enroll now button from our homepage. You will click on Online Enrollment under the second heading Existing/Returning Parents/Guardians. From there, you will click on “I am a Parent” and follow the prompts. ParentVUE/Schoology: For Schoology help, please email [email protected]. If you need a ParentVUE access key or your account is disabled, please leave a message on our ParentVUE hotline at 480.752.8775. Student drop off/pickup: Parents, please do not form a line of cars onto Rural Rd. when picking up your student. Please find an open parking spot to wait and communicate with your student where to find you. There cannot be a line of cars backed up onto Rural Road. Please remind your students to use the crosswalks at all times when crossing any street. This is for their safety and the safety of others. There is no drop off or pickup on Knox Road in the West direction and No Parking on the north side of the street. The area is clearly marked No Parking. In addition, please, no U-turns on Knox Road. Drop off/pick up of students is allowed in the Rural Lot and on the South curb of Knox Rd. Drop off in the LDS church lot is not allowed.
