In the spring of 2010, ShotownPictures partneredwith other investors includingGlobalPicturestoproducethecomedyfilm“CornerStore.”Pre‐productionbeganinAprilof2010withcastingsessionsheldoverseveralweekendsattheWestinHotelin Southfield. Production offices were established in downtown Detroit for thedurationoftheproduction.DirectorJoeDoughrity,aDetroitnative,assembledacrewcomposedoflocalartists,craftspeople and technicianswho ranged fromprofessionals to recent film schoolgraduates. Many of the crew were former autoworkers and what they lacked inexperience, they more than made up for in exuberance and hard work. Eachdepartment (from camera, electrical, art, sound and office staff) had at least oneinternwhowasworkingonhis/herfirstfilmtogainvaluableexperience.Several weeks of rehearsals and table reads commenced along with locationscouting with the crew’s department heads. Production began in June and ranthroughJulyof2010.Afterseveralweeksofre‐shootsandpickupshots,principalphotography was completed in August of 2010. The production utilized Detroitneighborhoods from downtown to Sherwood Forest, landmarks such as TheWhitney and Northland Shopping Center (the oldest mall in America). Localcompanies such as Little CaesarsPizza,BetterMade Snacks,Granddad’s IcedTea,McDonaldsownerJimThrower,andCitronbeveragesalsoassistedthem.Thefallandwintermonthswerespenteditingbothpictureandsounduntilthefilmwas refined to its present state: ready for presentation both theatrically, onDVD,VideoonDemandandcableTVbroadcast.“CornerStore”premieredinFebruaryatthe19thannualPanAfricanFilmFestivalinLosAngeles.ThiswasfollowedbyashowcaseattheLangstonHughesFilmFestivalin Seattlewhere the filmplayed to apacked theater.The first public screening inDetroit tookplaceaspartof the4thAnnualDetroitWindsorFilmFestivalon June25th. The filmwon ‘BestDetroit Comedy.’ The filmmakers are set topremiere thefilm on August 10th, 2011 with a limited theatrical run to follow in several localtheatersfromAugust12‐18th.

ItpremieredonBETinDecemberof2009asaTop6finalist(outof1000entries)inBET's "LensonTalent"short filmshowcase. Joe isagraduateofColumbiaCollegeHollywoodandamemberoftheWritersGuildofAmerica.DWIGHTPATILLO(Co­Producer,Co­Writer,2ndUnitDirector)AgraduateofSouthwestStateUniversityinMarshall,Minnesota,DwightbeganhiscareerinMinneapolis.HesoonmovedtoHollywoodwherehebeganwritingmusicvideoconceptswhileworkingonmoviesetsasacraftserviceassistant.Eventuallyhewas hired byDr. Dre and Interscope Records to direct themusic video "LittleGhettoBoy"fromDr.Dre'slandmark"TheChronic"album.Afterbeingbanned fromMTV forobjectionable content, the clipbecameapartofthe "Murder Was The Case " Pay Per View show, which grossed in excess of$300,000inrevenue.Patilloturnedhisenergytowardwritinganddirectingvideosfor NuVue Films and eventually FM Rocks, the second largest video productioncompany inL.A.at the time. In themixwithvideodirectors like JadaPinkett,KenFox and F. Gary Gray, he was often overlooked for big budget projects. PatilloteamedupwithUnderdogFilmsheadedbyCarlCraig,producerof "HouseParty","HollywoodShuffle"and"PlayersClub."AfterayearwithCraig,Patillodecided tochannelhisenergiestowardwritingscreenplays.

Patillo left L.A. for his hometownofDetroit,Michiganwith the intention to do anindependent feature without the Hollywood games and phrases like "dumb itdown.” This led to “Between Friends"; an urban drama about a group of collegegraduatesreunitingfora30thbirthdaycelebration.WrittenanddirectedbyPatillo,thefilmdealswithlifeissues,racerelations,maleandfemalerelationshipsandthelife decisions of diverse characters that happen to be African American.
