Praise Ye the Triune GodPraise ye the Father for His lovingkindness; Tenderly cares He for His erring children. Praise Him, ye angels, praise Him in the heavens. Praise ye Jehovah!

2. Praise ye the Savior— great is His com-passion; Graciously cares He for His chosen people. Young men and maidens, ye old men and children, Praise ye the Savior!

3. Praise ye the Spirit, Comforter of Israel, Sent of the Father and the Son to bless us. Praise ye the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit— Praise ye the Triune God!

We’re Marching to ZionCome, we that love the Lord, And let our joys be known, Join in a song with sweet accord, Join in a song with sweet accord, And thus surround the throne, And thus surround the throne.

Refrain:We’re marching to Zion, Beautiful, beautiful Zion. We’re marching upward to Zion, The beautiful city of God.

2. Let those refuse to sing Who never knew our God; But children of the heav’nly King, But children of the heav’nly King May speak their joys abroad, May speak their joys abroad.

4. Then let our songs abound, And every tear be dry. We’re marching thro’ Imman-uel’s ground, We’re marching thro’ Im-manuel’s ground To fairer worlds on high, To fairer worlds on high.

DoxologyPraise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Blessed Be Your NameBlessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful Where Your streams of abundance flow blessed be Your name Blessed be Your name when I'm found in the desert placeThough I walk through the wilderness blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in Lord still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name when the sun's shin-ing down on me When the world's all as it should be blessed be Your name Blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering Though there's pain in the offer-ing blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in Lord still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away You give and take away My heart will choose to say Lord blessed be Your name

Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name

Your NameAs morning dawns and evening fades You inspire songs of praise That rise from earth

to touch Your heart And glorify Your Name.

Chorus:Your Name is a strong and mighty tower; Your name is a shelter like no other; Your Name, let the nations sing it louder ‘Cause nothing has the power to save But Your Name.

2. Jesus in Your Name we pray Come and fill our hearts today. Lord, give us strength to live for You And glorify Your name.

Chorus:Your Name is a strong and mighty tower; Your name is a shelter like no other; Your Name, let the nations sing it louder ‘Cause nothing has the power to save (Repeat) But Your Name.

Speak O LordSpeak O Lord as we come to You to receive the food of Your holy word Take Your truth plant it deep in us shape and fashion us in Your likeness That the light of Christ might be seen today in our acts of love and our deeds of faith

Speak O Lord and fulfill in us all Your pur-poses for Your glory Teach us Lord full obedi-ence Holy reverence true humilityTest our thoughts and our attitudes in the radiance of Your purity Cause our faith to rise Cause our eyes to see Your majestic love and authority Words of power that can never fail let their truth prevail over unbelief

Speak O Lord and renew our minds help us grasp the heights of Your plans for usTruths unchanged from the dawn of time that will echo down through eternityAnd by grace we'll stand on Your promises and by faith we'll walk as You walk with usSpeak O Lord till Your church is built and the earth is filled with Your glory

It was Keith Benn's turn to speak. People listened attentively. They wanted to hear what he would say. For years Keith and his family had lived with the Bontoc community helping to produce literature

in their language. Today the community celebrated the Bontoc translation of the New Testament.

Dr. Benn spoke in the Bontoc language. "God's word can quench our thirst." He pulled out a large glass of water. "You are all aware of thirst, both physical and spiritual. Some of you speak English and you have been able to get some spiritual refreshment from the English Bible." He took a drink through a tiny straw. "Well, that helped but wasn't very satisfying. For most of you the English Bible does not quench your thirst."

"So, the Scriptures were translated into the national language. More of you understand Tagalog and get refreshment from that." He pulled out a regular straw and took a drink. "That was better, but I'm still thirsty."

Finally, Dr. Benn took the straw out of the glass and said, "Now, the New Testament has been translated into your language." He took a small sip, a larger gulp and then drank the whole glass of water. "Ahh, now that was good. God now speaks my language and quenches my thirst. My soul is glad."

On one hand, it’s refreshing to see a science professor stand up against post-

modernism. On the other hand, people who live in glass houses . . ..

Back in June, I told you about unpleasantries at Evergreen State College in Washington which involved, among other things, students destroying school property with baseball bats.

The source of their ire, besides their dangerous ideology and bad manners, was biology professor Bret Weinstein’s refusal to participate in a “day of absence” in which white students and faculty were expected to “leave campus during lectures on racism and privilege.”

For his trouble, Weinstein, a self-described “progressive,” and his wife, Heather Heying, became pariahs and in September, resigned their positions at the school.

But they didn’t go quietly. In addition to collecting $500,000 from the school, Heying recently wrote a scathing critique of what might be called the “postmodern left” in the Wall Street Journal.

Heying correctly notes that what’s going on at places like Evergreen is a revolution that “seeks to eradicate individuals and ideas that are considered unsavory.” I couldn’t agree more.

“[T]his revolution,” she continues, “is an attack on Enlightenment values: reason, inquiry and dissent. Extremists on the left are going after science… Because science seeks truth, and truth isn’t always convenient.”

On the other hand, “Postmodernism, and specifically its offspring, critical race theory,” she continues, “have abandoned rigor and replaced it with ‘lived experience’ as the primary source of knowledge. Little credence is given to the idea of objective reality.” Again, true enough.

In contrast, she continues, while science understands “that observation can never be perfectly objective,” she claims it “provides the ultimate tool kit with which to distinguish signal from noise—and from bias.”

She closes her article by saying “Science creates space for the free exchange of ideas, for discovery, for progress. What has postmodernism done for you lately?”

Now again, I say I strongly agree with her critique of postmodernism. Postmodernism is a snake eating its own tail. It is self-contradictory. It invokes ideas such as justice, fairness, and tolerance while at the same time denying that there are any universal values, largely because there is no way to discern those values. All that’s left is a vast ocean of subjectivity where power determines what’s true and what is not.

But what Heying fails to acknowledge in her critique is that the “postmodern mood” was a reaction to the failures of the Enlightenment project that Heying lionizes.

Her phrase “ultimate tool kit” contains more than a whiff of scientism, the claim that “natural science does or soon will constitute the entire domain of truth.” Her talk of “ideas,” “discovery,” and “progress” is selective, and, frankly self-serving.

In her telling, “science” deserves the credit for all the good stuff and no blame for any of the bad. Science can’t be blamed for eugenics, weapons of mass destruction or social Darwinism, but it should be praised for vaccines, indoor plumbing and going to the moon.

This special pleading is why I have a love-hate relationship with what folks call post-modernism. For all of the contradictions, deficiencies, and self-anointed justice elitists that it has given us, it critiques scientism’s unwarranted claims to objectivity and superiority. Albeit without the proper theological concept, it acknowledges that human reason is fallen. Unfortunately, it treats human feeling as if they’re not.

Look, as postmodernist Richard Rorty once observed, “only a God with equal measures of truth, justice, and love” is the solid foundation for true knowledge. Unfortunately, Rorty dismissed that God a priori.

But anyone who seeks truth would be wise to start with God instead. It’s the only way to avoid the rocky shoals of treating the scientific method as the “ultimate tool kit” and the deadly postmodern whirlpool of radical subjectivity.

be part of this spiritual heritage!26. Tashi Widmer from CCCD says that

they ended September with encourage-ment from support team visits, nice rainfall, good office days and MB CADE visit and review. Tashi got comments of gratitude from learners for offering the programme-heart--very uplifting for her. She asks for wisdom on: working with staff for im-proved behavioral and attitudinal change so all can best fulfill the mission of CCCD; for guidance and patience for staff in work-ing with students with problem behaviors (some are already feeling burned out); CADE success for God's glory and contin-ued leadership support and guidance for the MB staff with curriculum adaptations; blessed quality time with family; time management for Tashi as she attempts to travel and work in the office — she tires easily from travel, and then finds it hard to focus once back in the office; and refreshing and rewarding Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) training for campus managers, residential care staff, and school counselors.

27. From Dina Petrou: First of all, praises for the signing of a second house (hope center) and the first girl is already in! Pray for the new season for their girls, babies, volunteers, and staff. Erastos (their young-est son) has gone to Corfu to study music for five years. There is a small church there, so he will help the church with their music. Pray for him, and also for Argyris and Dina as they are "empty-nesters" now. Pray for Erik who serves with Albanian young people who hope to start a new church. Pray for Mark who works with CEF and has begun teaching Roma children in a Christian center. Argyris is again teaching in the Bible school; they have about 20 new students. Pray for Argyris as he has a serious operation on his foot, and will need to stay off of it for two months. And lastly, pray for Dina to have energy and wisdom in her leadership role.

28. Tricia Miller was diagnosed with uterine cancer; she had surgery in early August and no other cancer was detected in the lymph nodes or in the smallest blood vessels. No chemo or radiation was advised—only twice a year check-ups. Dan's father passed away on September 18; all the family was able to attend the funeral. Tricia is back to work. In Septem-ber the new Robinson R66 helicopter was shipped to Cameroon. In November some of their mechanics will travel there to help assemble it.

CBC Missionary prayer requests —numbers indicate the day of the week.

22. Pray that the Bibleless People will have a great harvest of souls around the world. Pray particularly for those groups who have received Bible translations in re-cent decades, but are not using them; that some among them would open a Bible or listen to an audio version and be changed by God's power through His Word.

23. Kent Suter asks that we pray for the youth group volunteers will be blessed and encouraged. The amount of time, resources, and heart that each of them puts into the youth ministry is incredible. The enemy knows just how powerful their impact is and would very much like to disrupt or discourage them. Pray, not only for their impact to the teens, but also for their personal life (family, work, rest, etc) to be blessed as well.

24. Sharon Lockhart says that in Octo-ber the teens will continue their study of Revelation. They are at the midpoint of the Tribulation. Please pray that they will all see God's judgments, His Mercy, and His Beauty. Praise God that during the recent earthquake He saved Leslie's family that lives in Mexico. Also praise God that one teen who has graduated from the class wants to continue to meet with Sharon so that Sharon can continue teaching her the Bible. We all thank God for this ministry where Sharon serves so faithfully.

25. Rob Kocher says that after several busy months of ministry in Spain, and here in Atlanta, his family rejoices with how the Lord has blessed them. They greatly appreciate the help from so many at CBC! Also rejoice with AFCI as they celebrate 30 years of ministry through the Monsoon Bible Theological School in Myanmar (Bur-ma). Paul Hanak, the International Director, will speak at the graduation for this year's students and for the special anniversary celebration. Jimmy Hla, who sang during one of the CBC mission conferences, is head of the school. What's fascinating is Jimmy's direct ancestor was led to the Lord by Adoniram Judson. What a privilege to
