On Offense:• The Big Red bats have are hitting at a .270 clip through 18 games. Junior Dale Wickham leads the team with a .400 average, his 0.61 doubles per game ranks third in the nation and his 1.56 hits per game ranks 50th.• Junior Ryan Krainz has a .379 average with a .479 on base percentage and team-high five stolen bases. He led the squad with six home runs and 26 RBIs last year.• Senior Tommy Wagner started the season on a 12-game hitting streak, which is the Big Red's longest since Spenser Souza during the 2013 season. Wagner has led the team in batting in each of the last two seasons.

On The Mound:• Senior Scott Soltis (1-1, 8.10) is scheduled to make his second start of the season Tuesday at Georgetown. In his final start of last season, Soltis tossed a six-inning complete game at Canisius. • Freshman Colby Wyatt (0-1, 6.75) is then penciled in to start Wednesday at Towson. His first start resulted in just an unearned run in three innings at Penn State.• Senior Peter Lannoo (0-0, 5.40, 3 SV) leads the team with eight relief outings, the last coming on Sunday when he closed out the Big Red's victory over Yale. • Not only has senior Matt Horton (1-0, 0.00) made seven scoreless relief appearanc-es, he hasn't allowed any of his six inherited runners to score either. Over his career with the Big Red, he's allowed just five of 31 inherited runners to score.• Freshmen Jeb Bemiss (1-1, 5.54, 2 SV) and John Natoli (0-0, 3.86, SV) are tied for third with six relief appearances to date. • Seniors Paul Balestrieri and Tim Willittes, and juniors Justin Lewis and Tommy Morris have comprised the Big Red's weekend rotation of late, making them unlikely to pitch much this week.

Pepicelli was named the Ted Thoren Head Coach of Baseball on Aug. 10, 2015, after helping lead Clemson to the NCAA tournament in all six years as the program’s pitching coach and stints as head coach at St. John Fisher and Hartwick.

Clemson’s record was 231-149 (.608) in Pepicelli’s six years with the program, in-cluding three seasons as the associate head coach, two more as the assistant head coach, and one as an assistant coach. He became the Tigers’ first pitching coach to lead a staff to the College World Series in his first season with the squad, then led the pitching staff to a season earned-run average below 4.00 for four consecutive seasons from 2011-14. He recruited and developed Matt Crownover, who earned freshman All-America accolades in 2013 and Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year hon-ors in 2015. Pepicelli was instrumental in assembling Baseball America’s ninth-ranked 2015 recruiting class. Ten Clemson pitchers were selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft in Pepicelli’s tenure at Clemson.

By joining the Big Red, Pepicelli is coming home to upstate New York. He has 11 years of head coaching experience on the Division III level with St. John Fisher and Hartwick. After serving as an assistant coach for three seasons at Hartwick, Pepicelli was promoted to become the Hawks’ head coach for the 1999 and 2000 seasons. He then spent nine seasons as the head coach and assistant athletic director at Fisher. Pepicelli was named the Empire 8 Conference Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2007, the latter honor coming during a season that saw the Cardinals advance to the NCAA Division III College World Series for the first time in program history.

Ford spent his first 18 seasons at Cornell as head coach, being named the

first Ted Thoren Head Coach of Baseball when that position was endowed in the summer of 1999 by Rich Booth ’82. Ford succeeded the legendary Thoren when he was named the 15th head coach in program history in 1991. Prior to taking over the Cornell program, Ford was the associate head coach at Ithaca College for 10 years.

In his 18 years as head coach at Cornell, Ford compiled a 266-467-2 record. He won his 200th career game in the first game of a doubleheader at St. Joseph’s (Pa.) on March 13, 2004.

The 2005 squad accomplished a number of firsts for the Cornell program, winning the school’s first Ivy League Gehrig Division title. The Big Red held its opponent to one run or fewer in five consecutive games for the first time in the program’s 139-year history.

season as a volunteer assistant coach for the program he helped lead to the Ivy League Championship during his senior season. He started all 47 games at first base during the championship

season, leading the team with 15 doubles to push his career total to 40 doubles — which ranks second in program history. Hager was also named to the College Sports Information Directors Association’s Academic All-District 1 Baseball Team in 2012.

About Georgetown:• The Hoyas are 16-12 after winning two of three last weekend against George Mason. As of Tuesday morning, Georgetown was tabbed 192nd in the Ratings Percentage Index.• The offense is batting .295, with Michael DeRenzi leading the way with a .390 aver-age. He also has three home runs, which is tied for the team lead with Jake Kuzbel and Beau Hall. Kuzbel (.359) leads the team and the Big East with 29 RBI. He has reached base safely in 23 consecutive games.• Nick Leonard (RHP, 2-1, 3.98) is scheduled to make his sixth start of the season. He took the loss in his last start against Navy, yielding three runs on nine hits while work-ing into the sixth inning. The team's pitching staff has a 4.81 ERA.• Jimmy Swad (RHP, 2-2, 2.75, 6 SV) leads the team with 15 relief appearances and is the primary option at closer. Nick Morreale (RHP, 0-1, 6.19) has appeared 14 times.

The Series History With Georgetown:• The Hoyas hold a 17-5-2 advantage in the all-time series, though the last meeting between the teams came 68 years ago.• Cornell won its last trip to Georgetown, 3-1, on April 3, 1949 in the last of five games on the team's spring trip.• The programs first met in 1893, with the Big Red earning a 4-2 victory as part of an 15-4 season.

About Towson:• The Tigers enter their Tuesday game at George Mason with a 9-14 record after suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of Northeastern in the teams' CAA debut over the week-end. As of Tuesday morning, Towson was tabbed 246th in the Ratings Percentage Index.• The offense is batting .217, with Richard Miller leading the way with a .292 average. Trey Martinez is the only player with two home runs. Richie Palacios is 10-for-11 on stolen base attempts and his 11 RBI is tied for the team lead with Logan Burke.• Matt Allen (RHP, 1-0, 4.97) is scheduled to make his second start of the season. His first was last Wednesday against Coppin State, when he earned a no-decision by yield-ing three runs over six innings. The team's pitching staff has a 5.04 ERA.• Kyle Stricker (LHP, 1-2, 4.94, 3 SV) leads the team with 10 relief appearances and in saves. The Tigers' second-most used reliever is also a southpaw — Nick Marriggi (2-1, 5.40, 2 SV).

The Series History With Towson:• Towson defeated Cornell in the teams' only previous meeting, 11-5, on April 1, 2015 at Schuerholz Park. • Tommy Wagner had a single, stolen base and run scored, and Pierre Le Dorze had a base hit and an RBI. Scott Soltis, Peter Lannoo and Paul Balestrieri all appeared in relief for the Big Red.

Making History:• Varsity baseball at Cornell started in 1869, so program firsts are few and far between two centuries later — but junior Dale Wickham delivered a big one last year. On May 1 at Princeton, Wickham became the first Big Red player to hit three home runs in a game. To make the feat even more impressive, he did it in his only three at-bats of a seven-inning game to open a doubleheader against the Ivy League champion.

Proceed With Caution:• Junior Ellis Bitar has once again been named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list season after being the only Ivy League catcher to appear on the 2016 watch list. The award is given annually to the best catcher in Division I, and Bitar proved his wares last year by batting .288 and throwing out 14 prospective base-stealers — the most among Ivy catchers. Interestingly enough, Johnny Bench once played at Cornell’s Hoy Field as a member of the International League’s Buffalo Bisons in an exhibition against the Big Red on May 25, 1967.

Up Next:• Cornell concludes the interdivision portion of its Ivy League schedule this weekend, first travelling to Harvard for a doubleheader at noon Saturday, followed by another twin bill at noon Sunday at Dartmouth.
