The 43rd Annual Corn Hill Arts Festival will be held July 9th – 10th in the heart of Rochester’s historic Corn Hill district. The Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. As always, admission is free for all festival attendees. This annual event is consistently ranked among the nation’s top art shows, and historically attracts between 200,000 to 250,000 visitors. The art festival is organized and run by members of the Corn Hill Neighbors Association who, with the help of a team of volunteers, ensure that each year’s Festival provides high quality art and unique, cultural and educational experiences for attendees of all ages. Jeff Holdsworth, volunteer Chairperson of the 2011 Festival Committee, states that, “The Corn Hill Arts Festival continues to be the premier summer event in Rochester, NY. Record crowds, unique artists exhibits, The Emerging Artist Expo, and the continued support from our sponsors promises to make the 2011 festival a “must experience” event!” As in years past, the juried arts festival will showcase arts and crafts from more than 400 artisans across the U.S. and Canada. Corn Hill Arts Festival will also provide a diverse range of live music and entertainment on 4 stages, plus children’s activities, and an array of food and drink for any pallet. Funds raised during the Corn Hill Arts Festival through the sponsorships, vendors and exhibitors, are used by the Neighbors Association for community improvements, ranging from providing low interest home improvement loans to its neighbors, to funding PAC-TAC security programs to ensure action and safety in the community. Money is also used in protecting and promoting the historical character and beauty of the area. The Neighbors Association historically encourages cultural diversity, and strives to foster good relations not only within the neighborhood, but its surrounding communities as well.

THE 2011 FESTIVAL POSTER ARTISTThe Corn Hill Neighbors Association has selected Western NY native, James Greenwald to design the commemorative poster and t-shirt for the 43rd Annual Corn Hill Arts Festival. The Festival’s poster art committee, led by neighborhood volunteers, selected Greenwald because his design best embodied this year’s poster theme, “Iconic Corn Hill: reworked, rethought and reinvented.” According to Lee Pumputis, a member of the poster committee, “Greenwald’s work stood out from the others.” “I’ve been honored to have my artwork chosen for this year’s Corn Hill Arts Festival,” said Greenwald. “The inspiration for the poster comes from the sense of history and community that Corn Hill has. I felt that the old Victorian style of the gazebo where friends and family could gather communicated the deep history of Corn Hill, and the sense of family and community perfectly.” Greenwald tries to incorporate elements of WPA era posters, vintage advertising art, Art Deco styling, and heavy lines and bold colors into his own unique style. Greenwald was born and raised in Western, NY and currently resides in Somerset, about 60 miles west of Rochester. He lives with his wife of 20 years and two children. Greenwald received his degree in Science Education from Buffalo State College and currently works within the Niagara County Correctional system. The 2011 commemorative posters and t-shirts, featuring James Greenwald’s design will be available for purchase at the Festival’s t-shirt and poster booth, located on Adams Street near the Avery Mall.

EMERGING ARTIST EXPO The Emerging Artists Expo is an exhibit dedicated to showcasing the works of Rochester’s young and up-and-coming artists. The exhibit allows 25 first-time art show participants, ages 15 to 25, the opportunity to display and sell their pieces at the festival. Each emerging artist, who is carefully selected by a jur y of professional artists, will be provided a 10’ x 10’ display space in the community tent. “The Emerging Artists Expo has become an exciting opportunity for young artists in our community,” said Jeff Holdsworth, Festival Chairman. “Last year, 25 artists were able to showcase their work to thousands of art enthusiasts. This year’s exhibit is a great chance for another talented young group to participate in the festival.” Last year’s emerging artist winner, Heather Swenson, received the grand prize- a custom website provided by Emerging Artist Expo sponsor, Archer Communications. http://heatherswenson.com/ Swenson spoke positively about her experience at the festival. “I really enjoyed participating in the Emerging Artist Expo. The interactions that I had with people were something that you can’t get in any other situation. I really appreciate the generosity and support from The Corn Hill Neighbors Association and Archer Communications for creating an opportunity like this for students.” The Emerging Artist Expo will coincide with the overall Festival on July 9, 10am – 6pm and July 10, 10am – 5pm. All are encouraged to browse and purchase works of art at the event located in the Nathaniel Rochester Community School parking lot at 85 Adams Street, located within the Corn Hill Arts Festival grounds.
