June 20 Marks 2ndAnnual Nettle Meadow Cheese and Spirits Pairing

– The big barn at Nettle Meadow Farm looks much as it musthave when it was built in 1910, with gleaming red siding and crispwhite trim capped by a shiny metal gambrel roof. In days of yore, the floor of the hay loft may have been the site of such socialevents as corn huskings or square dances under the vaulted roof, but the Nettle Meadow Cheese & Spirits Pairing this June 20th,hosted by current owners Sheila Flanagan and Lorraine Lambi-ase, will offer a bit more sophistication, offering guests an assort-ment of regional wines, ciders, beers and ales, each paired withdelicacies prepared from the farmʼs award-winning and nation-ally-touted cheeses, all set against a backdrop of the acousticalguitar melodies of Ellen Kenney. The Pairing Menu posted on the eventʼs website, www.Nettle-MeadowCheeseandSpirits.com, lists exquisite combinationssuch as “Slyboro Farm La Sainte Terre Cider, a semi-dry Ciderthat has a big apple aroma, paired with Fresh Chevre & Fig driz-zled with Peppered Maple from Hidden Hollow Maple Farm,” and“Adirondack Pub and Breweryʼs Samplers, paired with NettlePeaks sliced & drizzled with Balsamic Vinegar & Maple Reduc-tion using maple from Toad Hill Maple Farm on a beer flatcracker.” Other local food producers will be showcased at theevent, including Breads by Smith, Izzyʼs Market & Deli, andBarkeater Chocolates. Beverages will be supplied by SlyboroCiderhouse, Adk. Brewery, Olde Saratoga Brewery, ParadoxBrewery, Nine Pin Cider Works & Lake George Winery. Vendorsalso will sell food & beverages for home consumption. Flangan& Lambiase will debut their latest product, “Pascoʼs Ration,” agoat cheddar infused with rye bourbon produced by Lake GeorgeDistillery.Discounted tickets, sold at $20, will be available online at theabove address, or at the Nettle Meadow Cheese Shop throughJune 16. Full price tickets, $30, will be sold June 17 – 20 & at thebarn door the evening of the Pairing. (No online tickets will beavailable on June 20, as the computer will not be manned.) "THE GIRL IN THE RED VELVET SWING"The Sembrich to host program on Evelyn Nesbit

BOLTON LANDING, NY — "The trial of the century" comes toThe Sembrich on Thursday, June 25th at 7 pm with "The Girl inthe Red Velvet Swing - Evelyn Nesbit and the scandal, murderand trial of Americaʼs Gilded Age” - a popular presentation withvintage photos by Betty Spinelli. Tickets are $20."This is a historically revealing story about American society at

the turn of the century - a true story of a beautiful girl and twoprominent, very extravagant men," says Spinelli. "Itʼs a tale of for-bidden love, jealousy and mental instability that resulted in ashocking, cold-blooded murder at a rooftop theater in New YorkCity in front of nearly a thousand witnesses."On June 25, 1906, Harry K. Thaw, a Pittsburgh millionaire andhusband of the famous and glamorous Evelyn Nesbit, murderedStanford White, Americaʼs leading architect. The trial that fol-lowed was quickly dubbed "the trial of the century" as it mesmer-ized the public and helped close the curtains on America's"Gilded Age."In 1943, Thaw purchased the Becker estate on Lake George, sitetoday of the gatehouse "Villa Marie Antoinette" which is all thatremains of the once-lavish property.“It was my previous research on Katrina Trask that led me to in-vestigate this highly publicized, bizarre murder and ultimately thestory of Evelyn Nesbit," states Spinelli. "When I learned of thehistorical link to our area, it was a compelling choice for a localpresentation.”Betty Spinelli, Sembrich Board member, holds two Masters De-grees (Mathematics and Computer Science) and has enjoyedtwo prior careers, one in academia and one in the corporateworld. Since retirement, Betty has been active in local historicalorganizations and currently serves on the Board of Directors forboth the FUND for Lake George and The Sembrich. The evening concludes with a lakeside reception featuring a sig-nature Sembrich cocktail inspired by the era. About The SembrichThe Marcella Sembrich Memorial Association, Inc. (MSMA),founded in 1940, honors international opera singer MarcellaSembrich at her former teaching studio and woodland retreat onLake George. (518) 644-2431.

WITH A HOME EQUITY LINE

OF CREDIT

Apply online at saratoganational.com

Home Equity Line of Credit, no closing costs, provided a minimum advance of $10,000 is taken at closing. Advances may be taken either by using standard Home Equity Line checks provided by the Bank or by signing a separate Installment Loan Agreement(s) with its own home equity loan rate(s) and term(s). Minimum advance by the installment loan method is $5,000 with a maximum of four outstanding loans at any time. As principal is repaid on the installment loan(s) advance(s), the available credit on the line increases by an equal amount. 2.99% APR for the first 3 years of the home equity agreement will be charged on new lines with advance(s) taken by writing a Home Equity Line check. This 2.99% interest offer does not apply if the loan purpose is to refi-nance an existing Saratoga National mortgage or home equity balance. At conclusion of the 3 year introductory fixed rate period, APR will be calculated based on the highest Prime Rate published in the Wall Street Journal. WSJ Prime Rate is presently 3.25% as of 12/16/08. For combo lines of $25,000 or more the annual percentage for advances taken by check will be prime +.25%, for lines less than $25,000, the annual percentage rate is prime +.75%. Rates on check advances are subject to quarterly adjustment throughout the term of loan and will not exceed a maximum of 14.95% APR. There is no minimum rate. This offer applies to consumer lines of $250,000 or less. Minimum payment of $100 on check advances may apply. Payments may be made through a Saratoga National checking or savings account. For a typical installment loan advance of $25,000 over 10 years, your monthly payment would be approximately $253.12, assuming an automatic payment from a Saratoga National checking or savings account and an APR of 4.00%. If the home equity agreement is cancelled for any reason within 2 years from closing date, the amount of closing costs and mortgage tax the Bank pays at closing (approximately $705 for a typical $25,000 line), will be added to payoff amount owed. Maximum approved line is 80% of appraised value of house minus existing first mortgage balance, if any. If the Bank determines Title Insurance is necessary, cost will be borne by customer. Customer required to maintain property insurance. All or part of Home Equity Interest may be tax deductible. Please consult with your tax advisor concerning your personal tax situation. All Annual Percentage Rates shown are accurate as of 6/30/14 and are subject to change anytime at Bank’s discretion. Subject to credit qualified. Equal Housing Lender/Member FDIC 6/15 Penny Saver

Did you know? Dining outdoors when the weather is warm can make for a pleas-ant change of pace. While certain aspects of eating outside canbe enticing, Mother Nature can sometimes complicate the expe-rience. Wind is one challenge to dining outside, as diners mayfind themselves chasing paper napkins or airborne plastic cupson windy afternoons or evenings. To safeguard against the wind, rely on reusable, heavy plastic items that are less likely to blowaway in the wind. Also, keep tablecloths in place with a few sup-plies. Use a grommet-making tool to punch holes into the table-cloth and attach plastic or metal grommets. Place the tableclothon the table and slip a thin bungee cord fastener to a grommeton the underside of the table. Stretch the cord across to a grom-met on the other side of the tablecloth and secure. Two or threesets of grommets and bungee cords may be all you need to keepthe tablecloth in place and enjoy an interruption-free meal out-side.
