DISCLAIMER; Addressing any identified issues listed by the report, should improve the safety and performance of your vehicle. However, please remember that the inspection is limited to a visual inspection of the items listed on the report without disassembling or test driving your vehicle. Therefore, it is not possible for the technician to see or identify all potential defects, especially those that are internal to the engine, transmission, driveline, electrical system or other components. The cleanliness of the vehicle both inside and out at the time of the actual inspection may reduce the accuracy of the inspection. Your vehicle may have conditions that are not evident at the time of the inspection or otherwise not presented or noticed during the inspection process. ** The following section may contain instructions for servicing various components of your vehicle. These arean overview of the process that will be performed by a skilled technician in our shop. They are not intended tobe a guide for a “do-it-yourself” operation.

Below is information we feel would help you better understand some of the reasons for taking preventivemaintenance steps -- steps that help to ensure the reliability and safety of your vehicle for you and your family.

Additional Information

Your vehicle's tires are the only connection between your vehicle and the road. Safevehicle operation depends on your tires being in good condition. If your tires areneglected, the tread can wear completely away, leaving the tire bald and often exposingthe steel cords. Not only is this condition dangerous, it is also unlawful in many states.Tires with an abnormal tread wear pattern can cause the vehicle to shimmy and vibrate, and can adversely affect the manner in which your vehicle performs. A tire with anabnormal tread wear pattern will no longer contact the road the way that it was designedto, and this condition can be dangerous, especially during adverse road conditions.

Significance:Signs of irregular tire

wear

New tire

Raise the vehicle using an automotive lift. Remove the rim and tire assembly from thevehicle. Remove the tire from the rim. Install a new valve stem assembly. Install a newtire on the rim. Inflate the tire to recommended pressure. Balance the tire and rimassembly on a computer-aided dynamic tire balancing machine. Reinstall the tire and rimassembly onto the vehicle. Torque the wheel retaining nuts to the vehicle manufacturer’sspecifications.

Operation Description:

Tire replacement

Advantage:

Replacing worn tires is part of vehicle maintenance that is necessary to ensure that yourdriving experience is as safe as possible. Besides the obvious safety benefits, tires thatare in good condition and properly inflated to the correct air pressure can increase theoverall fuel economy and help provide a comfortable ride.

This repair is all about safety. Your vehicle’s brake system is only as good as your brakepads and/or brake shoes. The safety of you and your family depends on your brakesystem working properly and stopping your vehicle - every time. Aside from the obvioussafety issues, neglecting the maintenance of your brake pads and shoes can cause thefriction material on your brake pads and shoes to completely wear out. This can causethe steel backing on your brake pads or shoes to contact the rotors or drums and willdestroy the rotors or drums, leaving you with an expensive repair bill.

Significance:

Damaged brake rotorfrom metal-to-metal

contact

New brake pads

AI-143

Remove the wheels. For disc brakes, remove the brake caliper and then remove the brakepads. Inspect the rotors for signs of damage or excessive wear. Replace or resurface therotor as necessary. Inspect the brake caliper and brake hoses for damage and leaks.Replace the brake pads. For drum brakes, remove the brake drum. Remove the brakeshoes. Inspect the brake hardware, wheel cylinders and hoses for damage. Inspect thebrake drum for damage, or excessive wear. Replace or resurface the drum as necessary.Clean the brake drum and backing plate. Replace the brake shoes. Reinstall the brakedrum. Adjust the brakes as necessary. Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to thevehicle manufacturer’s specifications.

Operation Description:

Brake pad/shoe replacement

Advantage:

There are no shortcuts when it comes to your vehicle’s brakes. Having a professionalautomotive technician check and service brakes on a regular basis is essential to yoursafety behind the wheel. Maintaining your brake system by replacing your brake padsand shoes before they are completely worn out will help keep your brakes workingproperly and save you money by avoiding unexpected damage to your brake componentscaused by metal to metal contact.

Engine and transmission mounts secure the engine and powertrain to the vehicle frame. These mounts limit engine movement, resulting in reduced noise and vibration. Engineand transmission mounts also align the powertrain for optimal performance undervarious engine load and torque transfer conditions.

Significance:

Worn engine mount

New engine mount

AI-161

Remove the weight of the engine and transmission from the mounts. Remove the wornengine mounts. Install the new mounts according to the manufacturer’s serviceinformation.

Operation Description:

Engine or transmission mount replacement

Advantage:

Late model vehicles offer very little engine clearance under the hood. A broken mountcan allow the engine to move and cause damage to the engine and body of the vehicle.Engine and transmission mounts are tough components, but constant vibration andchanges in temperature can weaken engine mounts over time. Serious engine orpowertrain damage can be prevented by replacing a worn or damaged engine mount.

By finding the fluid leak through a dye test, there is no better way of assuring the exactlocation of the leak will be identified and repaired. After identifying the leak, in mostcases the repair will prevent other components from failure due to fluid exposure or lackof lubrication.

Significance: Fluid leaks are not easyto pinpoint

A dye test can determinethe exact point of the

leak

AI-231

Spotting the exact point of an oil leak is difficult at best and nearly impossible at worst. The method of choice among professionals is a florescent dye and an ultraviolet (UV)light. This dye will work with all types of fluids, such as oil, transmission fluid, fuel, coolant, and A/C refrigerant, and makes spotting a leak much easier. When seen underthe UV light, the dye glows a bright greenish-yellow.

Operation Description:

Dye test

Advantage:

The most notable result in dye testing and repair of the leak is the visual effects anddamage caused by the leaks in driveways and garages. Additionally, a clean, grease-freeengine or transmission will run cooler and more efficiently.

When a shock absorber wears out, your vehicle will bounce too much when going overbumps. It will also sway excessively when you go into a turn. Worn out shocks can leadto serious handling problems with your vehicle, and this presents a safety issue.Additionally, your vehicle may handle in an unpredictable manner. Worn out shocks willalso cause your tires to wear unevenly, greatly reducing the life of your tires. You shouldreplace your shock absorbers before they get to this point.

Significance:Uneven tire wear due toworn shock absorbers

New shock absorber

AI-245

Note: Shock absorbers should always be replaced in pairs. Carefully lift the vehicleusing an approved automotive lift. Remove the wheel that corresponds with the shockthat is going to be replaced. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s service information andremove the shock absorber from the vehicle. Inspect the shock mounting points on thevehicle for wear or damage and make repairs as necessary. Install the new shockabsorber. Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts to the correct torque specification.

Operation Description:

Shock absorber replacement

Advantage:

Replacing your worn out shock absorbers can greatly improve how your vehicle handles, making your vehicle more predictable and safer to drive. It will also prevent thepremature tire wear that is associated with worn out shock absorbers.
