Week 10 Term 2 2020IMPORTANT DATES

Messages from the Principal Good afternoon families and happy holidays! As I write this the students are enjoying their Reward Day organised by our wonderful teachers Miss Mepham and Miss Bryce. We have decided to go back to the printed version of this newsletter for the time being, to ensure all members of the school community can stay informed.

The following is an excerpt of a message from Mark Scott, Secretary, Department of Education that I would like to share with you.

This has been another extraordinary school

term.

I can imagine there have been few mid-year

school breaks more anticipated than this one!

For many in our schools, the last term break was

a flurry of activity over Easter, with so much work

being done to ensure a smooth continuation of

‘learning from home’ in Term 2.

It was great we could get our students back in

classes with face-to-face learning sooner than

anticipated. But I know it’s been demanding,

particularly for our school staff. The migration to

at-home learning, then a staged return followed

by fully operational classrooms, marked an

extremely challenging time.

I think we can all be pleased by how diligently our

teams managed all the challenges of Term 2 –

and how successfully our schools have operated

in the last five weeks with all classrooms open

once again. Your support for the strict protocols

we have in place is allowing the school gates to

remain open and keeping everyone safe. This

term we’ve had to declare a number of schools

non-operational for brief periods, where a case

has been identified, and we know it will happen

again. As the Premier said, it’s something we

have to live with. We know our school

communities have confidence in us to manage

COVID-19 and keep education going for our

children and young people while ensuring our

workplaces are safe for staff and students.

I completely echo Mark’s sentiments. The staff at Coramba have done an outstanding job this semester and I would like to acknowledge the enormous effort they have made. Thank you teachers Miss Catie Mepham and Miss Tiarne Bryce for your commitment, resilience, creativity and strong work ethic. To our School Support Learning Officers, Sarah Babbage and Zak Landers for supporting us and our students with such positivity, energy and enthusiasm. To our School Administrative

Manager Lee Moss, for your constant friendly and caring manner, industrious approach to your work and support. To Dee Kosik, our cleaner, you have ensured school remains COVID safe, always with a smile on your face. To our General Assistant Paul Carney, for your cheerful nature and dedication to keeping our school beautiful. We also welcomed casual teacher Miss Abby Wilcox to the fold, who supported us to be able to deliver both learning from home and face to face teaching simultaneously. Finally, a huge thank you to our parent community who worked so closely with us to supervise learning from home. Whilst many activities will resume from Term 3, we still cannot have parents on school grounds at drop off and pick up time or at assemblies. Thank you for your continued support to ensure we are complying with Departmental guidelines. The P & C will be able to resume next term, as will visiting speakers and inter-school sport. We have some exciting projects coming up next term, and there has been numerous capital works undertaken to improve the buildings and physical environment of the school. Have a wonderful, restful holiday and we look forward to returning to school refreshed and ready to go for Semester 2.

PBL During the last fortnight, students have focused on having positive attitudes towards everything they do at school, whether it be in the classroom or in the playground. They learned about having a 'growth mindset' and developed an understanding that for us to experience growth, our brain must struggle. Students explored the power of 'yet', changing negative statements of things they can’t do into statements that suggest that with hard work, they are capable of achieving the goals. They then developed their own rap in small groups using positive language and catch phrases to make it engaging and memorable.

SRC This week marks the end of our SRC journey for those student leaders who represented their peers during Semester 1 and the beginning of a new leadership journey for those students nominated by their peers for Term 3. So far this year the SRC has brought forward some wonderful ideas and despite challenging times, were able to demonstrate great leadership in all initiatives they suggested. They successfully organised and ran a handball competition to boost school spirit, they wrote letters to the Woolgoolga Men's Shed to thank them for making our outdoor seating, they researched and had input into our library refurbishment, they organised Crazy Hair Day for Term 3 and they contributed to rewriting the Acknowledgement of Country so that it more accurately reflects the land we learn on at Coramba. Personally, it has been delightful to watch students grow in confidence and leadership and I wish to thank them for the service in what became an extended Term of office. Well done!

Miss Mepham

Attention 3-6 Student’s & Families In Term 3 we will be starting up our homework again. Please make sure you bring your homework book back to school in the first week of the term so we can start from Week 2. Thanks and have a nice break! Miss Bryce
