CORAL REEF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN NOVEMBER/DECEMBER II 2016 Any Current 12 th grade boys that participated in Football during the 2016-17 year and have an interest in pursuing their football playing in college don’t forget to register: If you have any questions about the event, see Coach Petisco or Mrs. Margolis http://community.orangebowl.org/highschoolfootballshowcase/ 10 Tips on Winning a Scholarship 1. Start searching for scholarships as soon as possible. Don't wait until spring of your senior year in high school to start searching, or you'll miss half the deadlines. Continue searching for scholarships even after you are enrolled in college . Consider this like a full time job. 2. Answer all of the optional questions on a scholarship matching web site for about twice as many matches. 3. Use a free scholarship matching service like Fastweb.com. The Fastweb database is updated daily, and the site will email you notifications of new scholarships that match your personal background profile. www.cappex.com and www.studentscholarhips.org are also very good. 4. Pick up applications for local scholarships in Ms. Gilman’s office (when available) or the financial aid offices of local colleges & universities, and check out the public library's jobs and careers section. 5. Apply to every scholarship for which you are eligible. Pursue less competitive scholarships, such as small awards and essay contests, since they are easier to win and the money adds up and helps you win bigger scholarships. 6. Don't miss deadlines. Use a calendar and checklist to get organized. 7. Tailor your application to the sponsor's goals. Read and follow the instructions carefully. 8. If you have difficulty writing essays, try recording yourself as you answer the question out loud, and transcribe the recording later. Most people can think and speak faster than they can write or type. Create an outline afterward to organize your thoughts.

form. The role of a nominating teacher is to provide students with support and advice during the writing of their essay. Nominating teachers are also asked to read students' essays to make suggestions for improvement before they are submitted to the essay contest. As part of this review process, the nominating teacher reviews the essay for syntax, grammatical, typographical and spelling errors and ensures the essay meets the contest requirements listed above. The first place winner and his/her nominating teacher, as representatives of their school, will be invited to receive awards at the annual Profile in Courage Award ceremony held each May at the Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston.

Nominating teachers can be former or current teachers, but must still be teaching at the same high school as the essay participant. Usually students ask their English or History/Social Studies teachers. In very few cases, we will make an exception if a student is unable to ask a teacher from their high school to be their nominating teacher. The parent or legal guardian responsible for the instruction of home schooled students can also serve as a nominating teacher.

Raise.me helps students in 9th - 12th grades to discover colleges and earn scholarships for their academic and extracurricular achievements throughout high school. These bite-sized scholarships are called “Micro-Scholarships”. When students add achievements to their Portfolio on Raise.me, they could be eligible to earn Micro-Scholarships towards our partner colleges. These achievements can include good grades, participating in clubs, playing on a sports team, volunteering, or even starting a club. They can include AP or IB courses, honors classes, and college-level courses, too. Students can build a Portfolio of their achievements, Follow Colleges, and watch their scholarship earnings pile up. The Micro-Scholarships students can earn on Raise.me vary depending on what each college chooses to offer. Some Micro-Scholarships can range from anywhere between $500 to over $1,000 dollars. For example, if a student gets an A in an English class, he or she could be eligible to receive scholarships from dozens of colleges on Raise.me.  When students achieve a goal and earn Micro-Scholarships, they can view their earnings in their personal Portfolio on Raise.me any time throughout high school. Each college has a different deadline for students who wish to earn scholarships on Raise.me. If students decide to apply for admission to a college where they have earned Micro-Scholarships, they must follow a college before its Follow Deadline and make sure their Portfolio is as complete as possible to ensure their information is fully submitted to the college. If the student is admitted to the college, their scholarship earnings will automatically be included in their financial aid package. Check it out now... Raise.me and then take a look at this 2 minute video to hear from kids directly 9and if you scroll down just a little you'll see a video of Ms. Gilman talking about raise.me too!  SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS...And check out the attached flyer for earning $$$ from various institutions JUST FOR TAKING THE PSAT THIS PAST OCT. 19TH...  https://www.raise.me/join/ 84599619775
