Dual Credit Definition - TEA
an opportunity and agreement though which a student may earn high school credit for successfully completing a college course that covers all the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) of any specified high school course

Class Time Required for Course Credit
ISD: No requirements beyond TEKS
IHE: All IHEs begin and end their academic year according to the Common Calendar, which is set by the board. No set number of days in each term, but
each long semester should have 15 weeks of instruction.
Each summer session should have 5.5 weeks of instruction.

Grades
Grades are assigned by the teacher of record and should be the same on the college transcript as on the high school transcript.

ISDClass Time & Funding Streams
ISDs receive funding from the state to support their instructional costs.
Funding is based on Average Daily Attendance (ADA)
4 hours = a full day’s attendance
Time spent in a class for which the student is required to pay tuition or purchase textbooks may not be included in the ADA calculation.

IHEClass Time & Funding Streams
IHEs receive reimbursement from the state to support their instructional costs.
Reimbursement is based on the number of students and the amount of contact hours (for community colleges) or semester credit hours (for universities) reported
All students enrolled as of the 12th class day are reported for reimbursement

Semester Credit Hour (SCH)
A unit of measure of instruction consisting of 60 minutes, of which 50 minutes must be direct instruction, over a 15-week period in a semester system
Lecture-based courses: 16 contact hours = one semester credit hour
Lab courses: 32 contact hours = one semester credit hour
