COP24 Government and Business Pavilion
6th November 2018
The opportunity for COP23 was to tell the positive and ambitious South African climate change story
How best can South African businesses and Government use the COP platform to showcase the significant advances made on both climate change mitigation and adaptation by Government and business. The purpose of this engagement was twofold:
• Strengthen the relationship between the South African business community and Government in addressing the global challenges of climate change and sustainable development; and
• Develop consistent messaging between the South African Government and business that showcase the significant advances in climate change management work undertaken locally
The COP23 South African Pavilion was a tremendous success, with some great content developed
We officially kicked off the SA Pavilion with a cocktail function, and had great events throughout
• We had about 70 people (mostly South Africans) with 3 Deputy Minsters, 3 MECs, 3 Parliamentarians, and the South African Ambassador to Germany
A further significant benefit has been building stronger relationships between Government
and Business
There were however opportunities for improvement and this year we plan to build on those successes and increase our ambition
• Better located and better equipped stand (stand designers and “give aways”)
• Introduce interactive infographics
• Update existing material, videos and infographics and introduce new social media Talanoa linked dialogue social media strategy
• Better media attention
• More involvement from other companies
• Better and earlier communication of our events
Greater interaction, Talanoa Dialogue Theme and Social Media Blitz are key priorities
• We propose that we update the existing infographics
• Create a wall sized augmented reality (AR) map of South Africa that highlights our vulnerability to different climate change scenarios
• Then focus on creating a series of short videos that align with the Talanoa Dialogue covering the three questions:– Where are we now?
– Where do we want to be?
– How are we going to get there?
• Then we use these 90 second videos as teasers through social media to build awareness of South Africa’s efforts and drive focus on the pavilion and the event schedule
• We drive activity to the pavilion using interactive infographics and “give aways” that describe South African culture
