Terms Ordered pairs
a list of two numbers that describes the location of a point on a coordinate plane. (0,2)
What axis would this point be located on? X-Coordinate
shows the position left and right (horizontal) of the coordinate plane. It is the first number in the ordered pair.
Y-Coordinate shows the position up and down (vertical) of the coordinate
plane. It is the second number in the ordered pair. Coordinate pairs are always written in the format (X value,Y
value)
Graphing Skills Set of ordered pairs
(-3,2), (3,4), (0,0), (-5,-6) Steps for graphing
1st graph the x-coordinate Right or left
2nd graph the y-coordinate Up or down
3rd Graph the point with a dot
4th label the points

Graphing in Science 7
The line graphs produced by students in science 7 are plotted completely in quadrant 1. This is because we work with both positive X values and positive Y values.
Graphing skills Coordinate Pairs PracticeNow you try:
on the numbered coordinate grid supplied plot the following 10 points 1(8,9) 2(7,7) 3(5,7) 4(7,6) 5(6,4) 6(8,5) 7(10,4) 8(9,6) 9(11,7) 10(9,7)
When you have plotted the point join them together in the order you plotted them 1-10 and finally join point 10 to point 1.
Graphing skills Coordinate Pairs PracticeMy product will contain:
Ordered pairs written in the correct format.
A graph with:
- a Title
- axes labeled including units
A written response which uses the numbers (quantitative observations) to support your answer.
What Did I Learn Today?
What did we learn about ordered pairs? How do we plot them? Why do we make a graph? What type of observation did we learn to pull
out of the text to plot?
