The Richardson Theatre Centre will be presenting the classic thriller "Gaslight" by Patrick Hamilton.

May 9th-May 31st Friday-Saturday at 8pm and Sunday Matinees at 3pm.

"Gaslight" by Patrick Hamilton is a Broadway masterpiece with some of the most brilliant suspense in the modern theatre., All ap-pears to be peaceful. However, it is soon apparent that Manning-ham, a suavely sinister and handsome man, is slowly torturing his gentle, lovely wife into insanity under the guise of kindness. While he is out, Mrs. Manningham has an unexpected caller from Scotland Yard who is convinced that Manningham is a maniacal criminal wanted for a murder committed fifteen years ago in the same house. The secret of the dimming gaslight and the mystery of the hidden rubies will captivate all.

The Cast Andrew Kasten as Mr Mannigham Gaslight marks Andrew Kasten’s debut with Richardson Theatre Centre. Last season, he dazzled and charmed audiences in Plano Roverdramawerks’ productions of Surviving Grace and Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, followed by SecondThought Theatre’s modern adaptation of The Country Wife. Terry Abshire as Sergeant Rough Terry has performed in various projects around the metro area and does some radio commercial work. Amy Knoles as Mrs Mannigham Favorite performances in the Dallas area include The Underpants, and Cyrano at PRT,and Franken-stein at Dallas Children's Theater. There will be a Champagne Gala following the show opening night and it promises to be a thriller of an evening! Due to popular demand, Mid-Life! The Crisis Musical has been extended through Sunday, June 8. This polished, fall-out-of-your-seat-funny show is woven out of a series of vignettes dealing with classic midlife phenomena – all unpleasant, and virtually all hilarious. Brash, refreshing, and inven-tively silly, it has an honesty that makes it okay to laugh at ourselves. Directed by Terry Dobson, the cast includes Randy Pearlman, Amy Mills, B.J. Cleveland, Jenny Thurman, Doug Jackson, and Sally Soldo. All performances take place in Theatre Three’s downstairs space, Theatre Too. “If you’ve come to curse your fate, or start to date at forty-eight. Charlie Chaplin made a film with this same title in the silent film days. Ever since then, Hollywood has pa-raded talented canines like Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, Asta, and Benji whose exploits have entertained us in every decade. This refreshing new musical, A Dog’s Life, romps through the same beloved territory and manages to be goofily hilarious and sweetly moving. This piece tells the story of a rescued pooch, the young man who adopts him, and a complicated pack of four footed pals, all puzzled by the strange ways of the humans around them. HELLO, DOLLY! Music and Lyrics by Jerry Herman Book by Michael Stewart Based on the play The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder April 26-May 10, 2008 Lyric Stage, Dallas County’s only locally produced professional musical theater company, closes its fifteenth season with Jerry Herman’s Broadway blockbuster HELLO, DOLLY! April 25-May 10, 2008 in the Irving Arts Center’s Dupree Theater. Tickets are available by calling 972-252-2787 or online @ www.lyricstage.org When irrepressible matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi is hired to arrange a marriage for the miserly half-millionaire Horace Vandergelder, she finds him the perfect mate – herself! But first she must win the heart of her

unsuspecting “husband to be” before he gets hitched to somebody else. Brimming with joyful tunes from “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Before the Parade Passes By” and “It Only Takes a Moment” to the irresistible title song, Hello, Dolly! is a delectable treat for musical theater lovers of all ages. Dolly Gallagher Levi was not kidding when she sang “Dolly’ll never go away again” to the waiters of the Harmonia Gardens Restaurant. After opening at Broadway’s St. James Theater on January 16, 1964, HELLO, DOLLY! ran until December 27, 1970. Since the original production, DOLLY has enjoyed three Broadway revivals: in 1975 starring Pearl Bailey, in 1977 with Carol Channing reprising her signature role and in 1995 with Channing bringing Dolly back for one last spin. Producer David Merrick and director/choreographer Gower Champion were turned down by several musical theater stars when casting the role of Dolly for the original production. But after Carol Channing took Broadway by storm as the meddling matchmaker, the leading ladies lined up to play part. Channing was followed on Broadway by Ginger Rogers, Martha Raye, Betty Grable, Pearl Bailey, Phyllis Diller and Ethel Merman (who had originally turned down the role). Mary Martin played Dolly in the National tour, in London and, at the request of President Lyndon Johnson, in Vietnam for U. S. combat troops. For most of the soldiers, HELLO, DOLLY! was the first live Broadway show that they had seen. For Lyric Stage’s production, North Texas’ favorite diva Julie Johnson is Dolly Gallagher Levi. Ms. Johnson is a Theater World Award winner for her New York debut performance in Das Barbecu. Joining Ms. Johnson is Brad Campbell as Vandergelder, Lyric Stage Founding Producer Steven Jones as Cornelius Hackl, Catherine Carpenter Cox as Irene Molloy, Michael Madrinkian as Barnaby Tucker and Arianna Movassagh as Minnie Faye. The DOLLY company includes Beth Albright, Jeff Bailey, Alicia Bullen, Vicki Dean, Keeli Denney, Mary Rose Duncan, Francis Fuselier, Kay Fuselier, Cris Galvan, John Garcia, Carlos Gomez, Andy Gosnell, Alan Hanna, Brian Patrick Hathaway, Summer Kenny, Kelly McCain, Jonathan McCurry, Delynda Moravec, Nicholas Morris, Carly Rosemore, Kristi Rowan, David Lee Staggers, Greg Tucker and Vernicia Vernon. Cheryl Denson directs with music direction by Alan Shorter and Choreography by Cherrilane Blackburn. Tickets, priced from $24-$30, are available online @ www.lyricstage.org or by calling the box office @ 972-252-2787. Performances are Thursday through Saturday evenings @ 8 PM with matinees on Sundays @ 2:30 PM and Saturday May 10 @ 2:30 PM from April 25-May 10, 2008. A musical comedy dream. The musical numbers are solid gold brass!" NEW YORK HERALD TRIBUNE

Theatre Three’s 2008-2009 Subscription Season Announcement

(Dallas, Texas) Theatre Three is staging a world tour of theatre during the 2008-2009 season. Beginning in July 2008 with the comic mayhem of a garden festival at an English manor house, the season concludes in June 2009 with the harrowing drama of a South African courtroom. The shows between include a homegrown military drama, a romantic musical set in Florence, a witty Spanish Golden Age comedy, a modern French flirtatious farce, and a classic mystery set on the Nile River. Theatre Three’s 2008-2009 subscription season begins July 10, 2008 and concludes June 14, 2009. House by Sir Alan Ayckbourn July 10 - August 10 House is one of two comedies intended to be performed simultaneously by the same cast in two adjacent theatre spaces. House and its counterpart comedy, Garden, were huge theatrical hits when performed in two of the spaces at The Royal National Theatre in London. Though each of the plays is complete in and of itself, the characters move be-tween the house (Theatre Three) and the garden (Theatre Too), fitting perfectly into the puzzle plots of the two funny shows. Subscribers will be seated in Theatre Three for HOUSE as part of their subscription. As part of their subscrip-tion benefit, subscribers get half-priced admissions to GARDEN and other Theatre Too productions of the 2008-2009 Season. Defiance sizzling drama by John Patrick Shanley September 4 - October 5 Set on a United States Marine Corps base in North Carolina in 1971, three officers (the commander, his black execu-tive officer and the new base chaplain) are on a collision course over race, women, and authority – both military and moral authority. In this play, Pulitzer winning Shanley fills the drama with provocative tensions between the military mindset, the pro and anti war turmoil of the times, the complexities of race, and tests of loyalties and loves. The Light in the Piazza music by Adam Guttel, book by Craig Lucas October 23 - November 23 Few Broadway musicals have ever inspired the admiration of critics and audiences as thoroughly as this sublime ro-mantic story set in Italy. Its long-running Lincoln Center production garnered an armload of awards including six pres-tigious Tonys. Set in the 1950s, a youthful Italian lad is doted on by his Tuscan family. His passions are deeply stirred by a beautiful American tourist, accompanied by her protective mother. When it turns out there are more significant barriers than language to the match, the American mother and Italian family must put aside cherished beliefs if their beloved children can seek happiness together. Trysts in Toledo (Los empeños de una casa) by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, new English language version by Jac Alder December 11 - January 18 In the late sixteen hundreds, witty cloak and dagger romances set the fashion for the Golden Age of Spanish litera-ture. These entertaining plays were filled with wit, intellect and mischievous humor that thoroughly delighted the Span-ish playgoers. Trysts in Toledo follows the romantic confusions of a houseful of young nobles and their roguish ser-vants. Astonishingly, one of the greatest literary figures of that time was a nun, Sor Juana, living in “New Spain” which we now call Mexico. Her work displays verbal ingenuity; a dizzyingly complex plot played at top speed, and shame-lessly wears its fun-making on its sleeve. A passionate advocate of women’s rights, Sor Juana has a unique position both in secular literature and in the church.

Don’t Dress for Dinner breakneck farce by Marc Camoletti, English language version by Robin Hawdon February 5 – March 8 Infidelities and frustrated couplings are a long French literary specialty. Moliere, Marivaux, and Feydeau abound with witty repartee as men scramble after women, and women delight in the pursuit. In this recent Paris (and London) hit, a very modern French husband is planning to host a dinner in his wife’s absence. The dinner is a prelude to a liaison with his mistress, a plan the husband has divulged to his best friend. But, surprise! Can you guess who the best friend has as his mistress? And who is this beguiling female chef sent to concoct the perfect seductive meal? Murder on the Nile a 1930’s exotic mystery by Dame Agatha Christie March 26 - April 26 An elegant honeymoon cruise on the Nile for the attractive young aristocrats turns strange and dangerous with the surprise appearance of the young husband’s stalker. Despite both the protection of the bride’s guardian (who also embarks conveniently and unexpectedly) and the odd assemblage of other passengers pursuing solutions to ancient mysteries, perils mount for the giddy romantic couple. Before the doomed ship reaches its downriver destination, an audacious conspiracy roils the waters of the timeless river and lays bare the blackest hearts of criminal intrigue. Lost in the Stars book by Maxwell Anderson, music by Kurt Weill May 14 - June 14 Set in South Africa, this dramatic musical play (based on the celebrated novel Cry of the Beloved Country by Alan Payton) tells the story of a poor but deeply religious black pastor whose faith is supremely tested as he seeks to solve his son’s disappearance. He finds his son embroiled in desperate criminal acts of defiance; acts that bring him into a courtroom accused of murdering the son of a wealthy white landowner. This is a sweeping, epic tale crowned by an astonishing conclusion of racial reconciliation. The moving drama is framed by the magnificent music of Kurt Weill, showcasing thrilling soloists and splendid choristers.

The Living Opera Still Casting for the Volunteer Chorus

The Living Opera still has openings for it's 2008 Summer Season Chorus. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes? Do you wish to start your singing career NOW but are still in high school? Are you a former singer who would like to make a return to the stage? Our productions of Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS PINA-FORE provide an excellent opportunity for young, new, returning, and 'casual' sing-ers to get their feet wet and gain valuable production experience on the TLO stage. The TLO Chorus is volunteer based and provides you the excellent chance to work side by side with some of the leading artists and directors in the area and make the valuable contacts you need and the warm memories and friends you want! If you're interested in being considered for the Living Opera's Chorus, email a resume and photo to [email protected] For More Information on the Chorus for the Living Opera Please send inquiries to [email protected]

Laura Ainsworth & Michael Gott "Cole Porter: Elegance & Decadence"

Make a date for the ultimate romantic evening as singer/comedienne Laura Ainsworth and singer/pianist/recording artist Michael Gott present their critically-acclaimed salute to the most sophisticated composer of the Great American Songbook. From the aching "Night & Day" and "Love For Sale" to the lilting "D'Lovely" to the hilarious "Tale of the Oyster," Ainsworth & Gott take you back in time to an elegant Manhattan night-club in an era "when popular music was clever and witty and romantic and sexy and written for grownups!” (Denison Herald Democrat) BroadwayWorld.com raves that Ainsworth & Gott are "Dazzling...Sublime... Magnificent En-tertainment!" And the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram said this show "brings together two of Dal-las/Ft. Worth's most popular and talented acts." Two performances Friday, May 30, at 7 & 9:30 pm at Bass Hall's McDavid Studio, 301 East 5th Street in downtown Ft. Worth, next to Bass Hall. What is Cooperative Arts News?

The Mission: The CAN organization was created for the purpose of helping cooperative member arts organizations build audiences by supporting each other. CAN will send notifications to list members with news of member organizations' upcoming events and other arts news of interest. The Rules: 1. Since this is a "cooperative" of arts organizations supporting each other, member groups who

would like to post notices, agree to "receive" notifications from other member groups in return. Individuals will have the option at any time to "opt-out" if they choose not to receive future notifications by e-mailing the list manager.

2. In order to preserve the integrity and quality of the postings to this list and to prevent any unwanted "Spamming," all notifications that member groups want to send through this notification list must come through the list manager. Groups simply send an e-mail notification to the list manager with a descriptive write-up and it will be sent. If there are multiple notifications that need to go out, they may be grouped together to reduce the number of e-mails that are sent to the list.

If at anytime, you would like to be removed from this e-mail list or if you are a new organization that would like to join, please e-mail the list manager and your request will be acted upon in a timely manner. As always, thank-you for supporting the performing arts in the North Texas area! Regards, David Witherspoon List Manager [email protected]
