2015-2016 PTO BOARD
The 2015-2016 PTO Board Still Needs Several Positions Filled! The PTO is still looking for people to fill several board positions for the 2015-2016 school year. Currently, there are no candidates for the following PTO Board positions:
President-Elect Treasurer Event Volunteer Coordinator Classroom Volunteer Coordinator
We are in need of some great parents to step up and consider taking on one of these very important roles. While these positions may seem intimidating, after talking with the current board member you will see just how manageable each job really is. If you are interested in any of the positions listed above, or would like any additional information, please contact the current board members. Contact Information for Current PTO Board President-Elect: Kathleen Powers at [email protected] Recording Secretary: Jennifer Westerlund at [email protected] Treasurer: Danielle Krakowiecki at [email protected] Event Volunteer Coordinator: Christy Bartlett at [email protected] Classroom Volunteer Coordinator Andi Rawlins at [email protected]
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Art Literacy needs volunteers for the 2015-2016 school
year. While classroom volunteer signup happens in the
fall, we need to start planning for the next school year. If
you are interested in any of the following volunteer

Christie Emerson [email protected] or Christy
Bartlett [email protected]:
Art Literacy Chair/co-Chair (oversees program implementation at
Cooper Mt.)
Art Walk Coordinator (plan and implement the end of year art
display)
Schedule Coordinator (schedule all classes and create annual room
calendar)
Bulletin Boards (create bulletin boards for all six lessons)

The February 23rd Scrip order earned the PTO $47.33. The next Scrip order will be due on Monday, March 9th by 3pm. Remember that Scrip is essentially gift cards. The school earns a percentage paid by the business, so you only pay the value of the Scrip card. There are several businesses to choose from for all your shopping needs, such as Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Target, Michael's and many others. They also make great gifts! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or need assistance in placing an order. Your Scrip Team, Raande Sharp and Marcela Oblad Scrip Order Team [email protected] [email protected]
SCRIP BOX TOPS AND
LABELS FOR EDUCATION
Please keep collecting your Box Tops and Labels
for Education.
A few reminders:
• We can't turn in expired Box Tops. When
clipping Box Tops, please don't clip off the
expiration date. If a mistake is made, you can
always tape it back together.
• Go online at www.boxtops4education.com/ to
find out more ways to earn Box Tops credit for
our school. It's worth checking out and it really
adds up!
• Although "Labels For Education" (Campbells
Soup, Pepperidge Farm, etc.) is not the same
program as "Box Tops For Education", we will be
collecting those labels too. They MUST include
the UPC code (barcode) to count.

ART LITERACY
Art Literacy Artist
Barbara Hepworth
1903 - 1975
British Abstract Sculptor
During February and March students will learn about the life and works of Dame Jocelyn
Barbara Hepworth. Art Literacy volunteers will present about her life, influences and artistic
expression and then guide students as they sculpt their own non-representational masterpiece
containing positive and negative space. Perhaps your student will even be able to connect a
feeling of inspiration for their work. See if you can guess the word they personally selected to
inspire their piece.
These student created sculptures will come home with them. Due to space restrictions, we are
not able store them for display at the annual art walk. Please celebrate their creations with
them when they bring them home.
About Barbara Hepworth (summary for parents & review for students):
As a young girl, she remembers driving across the English countryside with her father. She
was aware of the shape of the land, the hollows and hills. She saw the forms of objects with
the eyes of a sculptor. After studying sculpture for several years, she began to carve in wood
and stone. She enjoyed working with the beautiful natural materials and watching them
become what she imagined in her mind. Barbara also created sculpture in bronze. She is best
known for her non-representational (abstract) sculptures. Often, she placed holes in her
sculptures, creating new ways to work with positive and negative space. Many of her
sculptures were small and made to be held, but she also created works that were larger than
life-size.
Thank you to the families who have made contributions to your child's classroom basket. There are still some baskets in need of items. We truly appreciate all of your support in making this year's event a fun and memorable evening!

Cub Scouts Pack 383
Dear Parents of Future Eagle Scouts:
(Don’t laugh- a similar letter was sent to Pack 383’s previous Scout Leader in April
2001 and nine short years later they were sending invitations to their son’s Eagle Court
of Honor!)
Cooper Mountain PTO proudly hosts a charter for Cub Scout Pack 383. On behalf of
Cub Scouts of America, we would like to extend you an invitation to explore the
scouting adventure with Pack 383. Cub Scouting is enormously fun! Songs, skits,
campfires, pinewood derby, scout olympics, the works!
Tiger Cub year starts as early as June following Kindergarten with optional summer day
and/or overnight camps and meetings beginning in the fall, followed by Wolf Year (2nd
grade), Bear Year (3rd
grade), Webelos (4th
& 5th
), then cross over to Boy Scouts midway
through 5th
grade. Registration for summer camps is going on now.
We would invite you and your son to experience the magic of Scouting at the Campfire
Graduation Thursday June 4thh at Camp Ireland in Hillsboro (weather permitting –
Cooper Mountain is the alternate location). The evening includes Flag ceremony,
lighting of the campfire, songs, skits, and advancement ceremonies for current scouts
ending with Scout Vespers. Save the date and watch the newsletter for details to follow.
Feel free to contact Christie Emerson, Chartered Org. Rep., with questions or for more
information: [email protected].
