Andy R. Tanner, d.o.

A ndy R. Tanner, D.O., is a native of Vienna, W.Va., and a 1999 graduate of

WVSOM. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in cytotechnology from Marshall University in 1990 and worked in a medical lab before entering medical school in 1995. He completed a family medicine residency at Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) and joined the faculty of the West Virginia University School of Medicine Charleston Division in 2002. Tanner has been program director of the CAMC Family Medicine Residency Program since 2007. He has served on various committees at CAMC including the Medical Executive Committee, the CAMC Foundation Board and, currently,

the Credentials Committee. In 2019, he was named Family Doctor of the Year by the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians. Tanner is board certified in family medicine and addiction medicine. He was appointed to serve on the West Virginia Board of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018 and is chair of the Complaints Committee. Tanner has served on the Capitol Market Board of Advisors and Charleston Main Street. He resides in Charleston, W.Va., with his husband, D. Dewayne Duncan. In his free time, Tanner enjoys his collection of vintage cars, cooking, gardening, travel and real estate development.

The Oath of Commitment

As I begin my studies at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic

Medicine, I commit myself to a life of learning, compassion and

service, seeking always to contribute to the human and scientific

accomplishments of medicine.

I will accept the responsibilities and privileges accorded a student

physician with humility, fostering the trust and respect of my teachers,

colleagues and patients.

I will address ethical and moral issues openly and honestly, no matter

how difficult they may be. In all things, I will conduct myself with

the utmost personal and professional integrity, knowing that I will be

looked to for leadership in the community.

I understand that healing involves the body, mind and spirit, and I will

continually strive to become a physician who integrates all aspects of

a patient’s life into their care.

I commit to a life of growth, to always expand my knowledge and to

strengthen my understanding of human health and behavior.
