Indie Genre Convention
sTo express the indie conventions I am using the
Ed Sheeran song ‘Give me Love’.Lighting- The lighting used in this particular video seem to be dim which matched the conventions of
most indie videos. In this case the lighting matches well with the depressed mood of the
main character. Costume- The costume colours correctly match
that of the song they are neither too bright or too dark. The clothes are rather loose fitting which is
fitting with that of the indie genre.Props- The main prop used in this particular video
is the cupids bow, arrow and wings, however these break the usual conventions, but to in keep with conventions they have used human figures,
which can be considered usual of this kind of video.
Country Genre
ConventionsFor an example of a country song I will be
using Taylor Swifts ‘Our Song’. The lyrics of a country video tend to tell a story so often he
music videos are narrative, which this video is, usually the lyrics tell a story of the hardships of life or hardships in love which once again this
video does do.Generally these kind of music videos are set in the countryside amounts the greenery however Taylor breaks these conventions by filming her
in a bedrooms setting. Usually the hair and make up is very natural but again Taylor breaks convention in this area with rather heavy make
up and clearly styled hair.
Rock Genre Convention
sThe song I am using to demonstrate the rock
genre conventions is Blink-182 ‘Stay Together for the Kids’.
Lighting- The lighting used in rock videos tends to be quite dark to match the tone of the music, in this video the lighting is very
dull which matched well with the video. The set in this video is a big draw as it is set in a demolished house giving a very grungy feel.Costume- Costume for rock artists tends t be dark baggy clothes as this is a general rock
fashion and suits the music well.Props- Often rock bands will produce
performance videos so common props to see are the instruments the band will use.
