Annunciation• Completely and easily field programmable• 80 character alphanumeric LCD Display• 270 event history bufferDESCRIPTIONThe Fenwal® 3220 is a microprocessor based program-mable Suppression Control System designed for operationwith Conventional Fenwal Ionization and PhotoelectricSmoke Detectors. In its simplest configuration, the Fenwal®3220 Main Control Panel (MCP) is a single hazard ControlPanel that can be field-expanded to be a large 8 hazardControl System with multiple Remote Display Units. Sys-tem expansion is achieved by adding up to 7 Remote Haz-ard Units (1 RHU per added Hazard) and up to 16 RemoteDisplay Units (RDU). The MCP communicates with theRHUs and RDUs on a dual path, Style 7 RS-485 network, monitors their status and displays system wide messages.
SYSTEM COMPONENTSMAIN CONTROL PANEL (MCP)MCP Power Supply:The MCP operates on 120/240 Vac 50/60 Hz Power Sup-ply. The Power Supply Unit is rated 4 Amps at 24 Vdc and isprovided a Battery Charger to charge a 24 Vdc backup Bat-tery. The Battery may be sized for 24 hour Standby with 5minutes Alarm or for 90 hour Standby with 10 minutes Alarmdepending on the Suppression System. The Power Supplycauses an immediate changeover to battery in case of lossof AC input or drop in input voltage.
MCP Display Panel:The MCP Display Panel is provided an LCD Display, fivestatus LEDs and a local buzzer It is also provided four Sys-tem Control Buttons and four Menu Control Buttons (seeFigure 1).
MCP Hazard Block:The MCP controls one Hazard Block and is provided thefollowing Input Circuits:• 2 Style B or Style D Initiating Circuits, each of which
can support 40 Fenwal Smoke Detectors• 1 Style B Manual Release Circuit for N.O. devices
• 1 Style B Abort Circuit for N.O. devices• 1 Style B Supervisory Circuit for N.O. devices• 1 Style B or Style D Waterflow Circuit for N.O. devices. The MCP is provided the following Output Circuits:• 2 Style Y or Style Z Indicating Appliance Circuits rated
2.5 Amps total at 24 Vdc for polarized A-V signals.• 1 Style Y Agent Release Circuit rated 3.4 Amps max at
24 Vdc. The circuit can be configured for Fenwal Initia-tors or Control Head Solenoids for Clean Agent Sys-tems or for FM Group A, B, D, E or G Solenoids forDeluge and Pre-Action Systems.
The MCP also provides the following Relay Outputs:• 1 Form C System Alarm Relay• 1 Form C System Trouble Relay• 1 Form C Programmable Relay• 5 Form C Programmable Relays (on socket mounted
Optional Relay Board)

MCP Programming:All programming is done via the MCP keypad. When theSystem is initialized, the MCP downloads the Operating Con-figuration to the RHUs and RDUs.
MCP Enclosure:The MCP enclosure is rated NEMA 1 for indoor use. It isconstructed of 18 gauge steel, painted Fenwal beige andkept closed by a steel door with a key-lock. All operator in-terface switches and indicators are located behind the lockedcover. The enclosure is large enough to house two 12 Ah 12Vdc batteries for backup supply. Battery Enclosures areavailable for larger capacity batteries. Optional dead-frontenclosures are also available for use in Canada.

RHU Programming:The RHU receives its Operating Configuration from the MCP.
RHU Enclosure:The RHU Enclosure when using the Optional Display Panelis very similar to that of the MCP. In the case that this optionis not selected, the RHU Enclosure has no viewing window.
SYSTEM COMPONENTSREMOTE DISPLAY UNIT (RDU)RDU Power Supply:The RDU operates on 24 Vdc Power received either fromthe MCP, its associated RHU or any other UL Listed source.
RDU Display Panel:The RDU is a Display only unit and can be programmed tooperate either in local or global mode. In local mode, it mim-ics the Display of the MCP or the RHU to which it is as-signed whereas in global mode, it mimics the display of theMCP. The RDU Display Panel provides one LCD Display, one Status LED and System Controls (see Figure 6.)
RDU Hazard Block:RDUs may be used to accept one Manual Release and oneAbort input from the local protected zone to which its asso-ciated MCP/RHU is assigned.
RDU Backbox:The RDU Backbox is constructed of 18 gauge steel, paintedFenwal beige and kept closed by the Display Panel frontplate.
SYSTEM LOGSThe Fenwal® 3220 Control System is provided an EventLog and Configuration Log, both of which reside in the MainControl Panel. The Event Log is a compilation of all Alarm,Trouble, Supervisory and Event messages stored in non-volatile memory. Up to a maximum of 270 events can bestored at any given time. The occurrence of a new eventbeyond the maximum capacity erases the earliest event.
MENU STRUCTUREThe Main Menu of the Fenwal® 3220 Control System con-sists of the following items as shown on the tree structurein Figure 7. Specific functions are password protected tolimit access to authorized personnel only.
