Scope

On 20 Oct 2007 at about 0315 hrs, several multi-storey residential buildings collapsed at “Mandai Housing Estate”

The cause of collapse is believed to be related to some deep tunneling work carried out in the nearby area

The prevailing heavy downpour at the incident site caused further alarm as several residents are trapped within the collapsed structures – with fear of drowning

Sixty people are confirmed dead and about 1000 are believed to be unaccounted for with hundreds trapped

A state of civil emergency has been declared

HCEG had requested for international assistance to assist in rescue efforts

All water sources within the housing estate were affected due to burst water mains

All power and telephone lines were down

Part of the service roads within Mandai Housing Estate were impassable
