Introduction :

Non-destructive Testing is a technique of inspection and detection of defects

presence in a given structure

There are many methods of nondestructive testing

Infrared Thermography (ITR) is one of the principal NDT methods and one of the

most attractive and promising techniques

The objective of this work consist in:

the use of infrared properties

the finite element method

to analyze the welded pipe quality by analyzing the surface temperature of

the structure (pipe + welding) through calculated thermograms,

Numerical modeling

To analyze the results of simulations, we introduce relative thermal

parameters :relative conductivity krand relative capacity Cr,

The relative thermal conductivity kr, defined by the ratio

kr= kwelding/ kpipe

The relative thermal capacity Cr, defined by :

Cr = kwelding / kpipe

Conclusion

In this paper, we analyzed

the surface temperature on

a welded aluminum pipe as a

function of two parameters:

effect of the thermal

conductivity

the effect of the heat

capacity

The detectability of the

presence (or quality) of

welding becomes easier for a

greater (or smaller) thermal

conductivity of the welding

material compared to that of

the aluminum pipe.

The detectability of the

presence (or quality) of the

welding material becomes

easier for a greater (or

smaller) heat capacity of the

welding material compared to

that of the aluminum pipe.

The smaller the difference

in surface temperature, the

closer the thermophysical

characteristics of the

welding and the pipe are,

the better welding we have,

Perspectives

We are searching for the

application of this method

to evaluate the quality of

the welding in term of air

bubble and cracks,
