    State-of-the-Art Quality Control Process

    Suntech knows how important quality is to its customers and has implemented a tiered, multi-stepapproach to quality control that follows the production of its solar products from inception tocompletion. At Suntech every quality control officer is given ownership of individual productionprocesses to ensure responsible management, and Standard Operating Procedures are strictlyadhered to and a key focus of each supervisor. Our Quality control officers follow a quickresponse action plan for identifying and eradicating trouble hot spots, and director levelmanagement is notified of all quality/production issues. At each level of quality control there is aredundant series of inspections by multiple qualified QC professionals ensuring that each product

    meets our stringent, internal expectations of quality. This quality control system was recognizedwhen Suntech became the first solar energy company to receive exemption from Chinese exportinspection. The export inspection exemption is Chinas highest honor awarded to companies thatdemonstrate exceptional internal product quality management and control.

    Breakthrough Solar Innovation

    Led by Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntechs founder and one of the worlds leading scientists of solartechnology, our 240+ strong in-house R&D team works continuously to develop pioneeringsolutions that make solar energy more efficient and affordable while upholding our highinternational quality standards.

    Pluto Technology

    Suntechs breakthrough Pluto technology is in the first phase of commercialization and is alreadyachieving over 18% conversion efficiency on monocrystalline photovoltaic (PV) cells and close to17% conversion efficiency on polycrystalline PV cells in mass production, well aboveconventional screen-printed crystalline PV cells. Suntech anticipates ongoing enhancement of thePluto technology and targets to achieve 20% conversion efficiency on monocrystalline PV cellsand 18% on polycrystalline PV cells within the next 2 years.

    Pluto technology delivers higher efficiency and power output without increasing the cost ofproduction. The powerful Pluto panels improve space utilization and minimize installation andother balance of system costs. Unique texturing technology, with lower reflectivity, ensures moresunlight can be absorbed throughout the day even without direct solar radiation. Suntechs patentpending Pluto technology can be applied to a variety of grades of silicon to suit multipleapplications and product types. Pluto products will be shipped with Suntechs standard 25 year

    power output warranty.

    The successful production of Pluto solar cells and panels is the result of years of world-classresearch and development and is a milestone achievement for Suntech. This breakthroughtechnology is integral to Suntechs strategy to drive towards grid parity and widespread globaladoption of solar energy solutions, remarked Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntechs Chairman and CEO.For customers, Pluto means greater efficiency and power output, equating to better utilization ofspace and lower installation costs.

    Production Process Innovation

    Through continuous evolution of Suntechs production processes, we are able to find lower cost

    production methods while further enhancing product uniformity and quality. With the recentacquisition of KSL-Kuttler, a German company specializing in equipment automation in thePrinted Circuit Board industry, Suntech has been able to accelerate the innovation in this area.We foresee a transition to greater automation in PV cell and module production lines over thenext 12 to 18 months.

    New Product Development

    Suntechs new product team concentrates on the development of new product offerings and solarenergy solutions that match the needs of solar users both today and tomorrow. Aside from ourinternal team, we also work closely with other innovators in the industry to share expertise and

    accelerate the path from concept to market. Two companies that we are currently working withare DRI Companies/Lumeta and Akeena. In particular, we have worked with Akeena to co-develop and manufacture a solar module that integrates the racking and wiring into the frame.

    This all black module has a sleek and highly aesthetic appearance and the integrated rackingreduces installation time and cost significantly. We have licensed this product from Akeena andare leveraging our international distribution network to sell this innovative new product in Europe,Japan and Australia.

    New Materials

    Another key focus of Suntechs R&D department is testing and evaluating new and improvedmaterials to utilize in our cell and module production. Our material science team constantlyresearches alternative materials such as upgraded metallurgical sil icon, EVA, glass and modulebacksheets that have the potential to enhance product quality and reduce the cost of solarenergy products.

    Thin Film

    Thin film is of increasing importance as Suntech builds our first 50MW production line. Dr. Shipersonally has 11 patents in thin film related solar technologies and a number of other membersof our R&D team have worked with him in the commercialization of thin film technology prior tostarting Suntech. We plan to leverage this in-house expertise to develop a range of differentiatedthin film offerings combined with best of class conversion efficiency. In particular, we believe thatthe flexibility of thin film solar technology is ideally suited to building integrated PV (BIPV)solutions and we intend to use our thin film expertise to strengthen our already impressive BIPVproduct line.

    Suntech MSK Solar Design LineTM Products

    Suntech's MSK Solar Design LineTM of products offers superior aesthetics compared to standardPV modules and can be used to create buildings that are sustainable, functional and visuallystunning. MSK is the name of the Japanese specialist in Solar Design, with experience in solardating back to 1981, that Suntech acquired in 2006.

    The majority of Suntech's MSK Solar Design LineTM products are Building Integrated Photovoltaic(BIPV) modules. These BIPV modules function, not as an add-on, but rather, as an integral partof the building skin. They can be used just like standard building materials, but with the addedvalue of generating electricity directly from sunlight. BIPV modules provide greatly improvedaesthetics and allow savings over traditional building materials and installation.

    Form

    MSK Solar Design LineTM modules can be a striking and highly visible feature of a building or theycan blend seamlessly with the construction. A remote display unit enables building users to see, in real time,how much energy is being produced and how much carbon is being saved - making a SuntechMSK Solar Design LineTM system a true talking point for building users.

    Function

    In the case of Suntech's building-integrated products, the module itself functions as a buildingmaterial providing the physical skin of the building, and offering shading, weatherproofing,thermal and acoustic protection. This cuts out the duplication of materials with standard solar

    modules mounted on top of the existing building structure, saving material cost and reducingenvironmental impact.

    Sustainability

    Suntech MSK Solar Design LineTM modules make a building more sustainable while providingarchitects license to create a powerful environmental statement. A 3kW rooftop system canprovide all the electricity required by an energy efficient home. In addition to generating electricity,our thin-film glazing BIPV also dramatically reduces the heat that enters the building, reducing theenergy required for air-conditioning. In Suntech's experience, installing a PV system also leads toa 5-10% reduction in energy usage since occupants are keen not to waste their "own" solargenerated electricity. Solar energy systems are an excellent form of "green marketing" and in

    many applications have an important educational function - heightening awareness ofenvironmental issues.

    Economic Payback

    Suntech MSK Solar Design LineTM systems not only protect the environment, but also savemoney in the long run. On average, around the world, sunlight delivers a barrel of oil of energy onevery square meter of land every year. At $145 a barrel, a 100m2 roof is receiving $14,500/yr ofenergy - a third of a million dollars over 25 years. With Suntech MSK Solar Design Line TMmodules, we can convert part of this raw energy directly into electricity. The electricity can beused on site or sold to the grid making a solar energy system the only type of building productthat will pay for itself over time. In many countries, government incentives are in place to reduce

    the payback time. Since building-integrated modules displace traditional building materials, onlythe incremental additional cost of the PV modules needs to be considered.
