Intensive ventilation,unique design

The blades wall systems from Duco have been

designed for intensive and continuous ventila-

tion. This makes them ideal for ventilative coo-

ling and this is why these blades wall systems

integrate perfectly with Duco’s well-developed

concepts: DUCO at WORK, DUCO at SCHOOL

and DUCO at CARE. Thanks to a combination of

natural basic ventilation, outdoor sun protection

& ventilative cooling, a healthy, comfortable and

energy-efficient indoor climate can be created

in a natural way, where the user occupies cen-

tre stage.

Ventilative cooling is a free kind of ventilation for

cooling buildings during the warmer months

in a natural way. By using a blades wall, large

amounts of fresh air can enter in order to cool

down the building. A precondition for this is that

sufficient thermal mass, such as bare concrete

components, must exist in the building in order

to absorb the cool air.

In combination with Duco’s outdoor sun protec-

tion, the heating up of a building is prevented in

a natural way. This ensures that energy-inten-

sive airco is rendered superfluous.

1. DucoWall Solid

Aluminium continuous louvre system where Z-

shaped blades are directly clipped onto the support

system with the Duco patented Direct Clip system.

The strong louvre system requires at least a mini-

mum back structure. The system is vandal-proof.

2. DucoWall Classic

Aluminium continuous louvre system where the alu-

minium blades are clipped onto plastic blade hold-

ers. They are pre-fitted to the aluminium support

profile and held in place with the patented Duco turn

and click system. The blade holders can be fitted in-

dividually onto the support system. This gives a per-

fect finish. The DucoWall Classic product line offers

a wide range of blades.

3. DucoWall Acoustic

Continuous louvre system, with blades wich contain

sound-absorbing, non-combustible mineral wool.

This aluminium continuous louvre system is clipped

directly onto the support system with the Duco pat-

ented Direct Clip system.

4. DucoWall Basic

This aluminium continuous louvre system clips di-

rectly onto the support system with the Duco patent-

ed Direct Clip system. The special blade shape has

been designed for both S and Z shape applications.

This system is ideally suited for projects where the

continuous louvre wall is used as a façade cladding

system.

> Air flow

When selecting a continuous louvre sys-

tem, there is the choice between aesthetics

and practicallity (airflow/water repellancy).

There are several ways of choosing the most

suitable system. Therefore it is important

that you can rely on accurate data and val-

ues. Do not hesitate to contact Duco for as-

sistance in making the right choice of sys-

tem for your project.

The free open area or percentage rule is based either on the method of physical free area or the method of visual

free area.

For a desired width of 20 m, the height of the continuous louvre wall is 3.65 m (73/20).

> Calculate the net free open area when the dimensions have already been determined.

The visual free area uses the largest open area rather than the smallest open area. This use however is to be

discouraged as the visual free area is no benchmark for the effective free area.

2. K factor

The K factor is a value that indicates the aerodynamic resistance of the continuous louvre wall to the air flow.

This factor is used when the dimensions of the continuous louvre system should be identified based on air

velocity and air flow rate.

Unlike the previously mentioned free open area, the K factor takes into account the differing air pressure at

the louvre intake and exhaust faces.

K = Ps (differential air pressure across the continuous louvre system in Pa)

ρ (air density) x V (air velocity)

Any continuous louvre system fitted on an opening will interfere with the free flow of air. In order to deter-

mine this resistance, the K factor needs to be calculated. When developing a continuous louvre system, the

K factor is determined using a computer simulation model (EFD) first and then tested. The K factor for air

intake and exhaust for each type of continuous louvre wall is tabulated in the overview table at the end of this

brochure . Additionally, the associated C coefficient is given as well, which indicates the ratio of the effective

flow area through a continuous louvre wall to the theoretical air flow. A distinction is made between :

> Ce: For the resistance to air flow at the air inlet (Entry Loss Coefficient).

> Cd : For the resistance to air flow at the air outlet (Discharge Loss Coefficient).

Use this method to :

> Calculate the surface of the continuous louvre wall based upon the K-factor of the selected type of louvre blade, differential air pressure and air flow rate:

a. Select a type of louvre blade from the table based on the K factor (K).

b. Select the required maximum differential air pressure in Pa (∆p)

c. Select the required air flow rate (Q)

d. Calculate air velocity (V).

> Water repellent efficiency

The extent to which a continuous louvre wall

is repellent to water on the one hand and its

water tightness on the other can only be ver-

ified through testing. BSrIA is an European

leading-edge independent research organi-

sation in water tightness tests of building

products. The tests have been designed in

conjunction with HEVAC (Heating, Ventilat-

ing and Air Conditioning Manufacturers As-

sociation). All DucoWall continuous louvre

systems shown in this product brochure

have been BSrIA tested.

When tested, the louvre wall was subjected

to a simulated rainfall of 75 litres per hour

and a wind speed of 13 m/s (see diagram).

The continuous louvre system is assigned a

class in relation to the air velocity and the %

of water tightness :

The DucoWall Acoustic W 75L/Z is a sound-insulating blades wall system, manufac-

The DucoWall Basic W 35S/Z series is a continuous louvre wall designed to clip directly onto the

support system with the Duco patented Direct Clip system. The special blade shape has been de-

signed for both S and Z shape applications. This system is ideally suited for projects where the pri-

mary function of the continuous blade louvre is to offer an effective cosmetic covering (“screening”).

This system is often used on projects as a screening louvre.

The Duco Wall Basic series is particularly suited for “screening purposes”.

Continuous louvre systems are often used to screen technical areas that require permanent venti-

lation. DucoWall doors can be integrated into a screen to give an easy acces.

A DucoWall door is a louvred door, assembled with blades, mullions and parts from the DucoWall

product range. The door matches the surrounding screen to create a perfect unit.

DucoWall Door series doors are available as single or double leaf and as inside or outside opening

door. The doors may be hung to open from either the left or the right.

DucoWall Door series doors are supplied as made tot measure, and when necessary, fitted with

special hinges and diagonally arranged reinforcing cables.

Door fixtures

DucoWall doors come as standard with a door handle fitted on the inside of the doors and with a T handle fitted on

the outside. Other combinations are available upon request.

Doors used as emergency exit doors, are factory fitted as standard with an inside anti-panic device and an outside

door knob. An anti-panic device is only possible on doors opening to the outside.

Aluminium roof turrets are used to screen air intakes sited at roof level from view. In addition,

DucoWall roof turrets provide a sufficient level of intensive ventilation of the screened plants.

Duco aluminium roof turrets are made from profiles from the DucoWall Classic range and can be

used to match each available type of louvre blade from this range. For a detailed overview of each

type of louvre blade : See page 18-33 in this brochure. DucoWall roof turrets come supplied with a

top plate and finishing sills.

Duco Projects

The new Duco business premises are cooled during the warm spring and summer months in a completely nat-ural way through intensive ventilation during the night (night cooling) and sun shading during the day.

The cool night air comes into the building through Duco louvres and is stored in the concrete structure of the building. This air is gradually released during the day. The warm air is conveyed to the production hall through ventilation openings made behind Duco continuous blade louvres.
