Job Search 2017 – Understanding and utilizing technology in Career Advancement. 4 week 20 hour
intensive course has the goal to provide the student/participants with an understanding of the job
search process and the role and impact of technology in this process.
The development of successful job search campaign will include learning strategies, tactics,
techniques and skills for the student/participants to be able to advance their career, or to find the jobs
they desire.
This course provides a practical approach to the fundamental concepts, including developing
techniques and strategies to create their personal branding, leadership and develop the networking
tools and skills necessary to conduct a successful job search Campaign in an “Accelerating, Changing,

Learning Outcomes Assessment:
Each college program has identified outcome measures that indicate whether students are successful in
meeting the specific outcomes for the program. The following are the four outcome measures that will
be assessed for the University Partner’s program:
1. Strategic Orientation – An (partner program name) graduate will demonstrate the ability to
develop, implement, coordinate, and/or manage a strategic plan through a collaborative
process.
2. Communication – An (partner program name) graduate will demonstrate the ability to
prepare and deliver effective oral presentations and or write documents that present, evaluate
information and opinion in a logical and analytical manner, incorporating research and
documentation, and using style, grammar, mechanics, and format appropriate to an educated
audience.
3. Information Literacy – An (partner program name) graduate will demonstrate the ability to
carry out thorough and effective information search strategies using traditional print, digital,
and internet sources, evaluate information accessed, and use this information along with
existing knowledge to create something new.
4. Critical Thinking – An (partner program name) graduate will demonstrate competency in
critical thinking that encompasses dimensions of informal logic and ethical analysis.
ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING
Class Participation: There are a series of questions of relevant topics to discuss each week. Students are expected to bring
their personal concepts and experiences to assist the learning process. Participation in Weekly
Networking Group, Discussion Boards, and Class LinkedIn Group is absolutely necessary so that
student colleagues can share these ideas. Moreover, students must complete the assigned readings and
assigned questions, exercises and other assignments (case studies, simulations, etc.) every week.
Course participation and interaction is critical to the success of this course. Network Group and
LinkedIn Group participation will account for 30% of the final grade and will be assessed based upon
the student’s involvement in the discussions and the relevance of that input.
The attendance in the Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA/Veterans-helping-Veterans USA weekly
support and networking group is also essential and part of the grade. Attendance sheets will be signed
each week to verify attendance.

must be completed.
Career Assessment, Elevator pitch, Candidate Networking Profile, Job Assessment, Resume, Sample
Cover letter, LinkedIn Profile, Job Search Checklist, Search Tracking, Transferrable Skills list,
personality tests, leadership tests. Various worksheets and workbooks assignments.
Presentations: Each student will create a Final PowerPoint presentation on their value to the potential employer
which will be expected for each student in place of a term paper presenting the body of work during
the course and the completed Job Search Tools and Materials.
These presentations will be shared with all classmates via email, online board posting and video
conferencing to provide the opportunity for other classmates to provide comments on your work and to
learn from your work. Students are expected to answer questions raised by others in the class in an
appropriate manner.

College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development, which was awarded $12 million
competitive federal grant for New Jersey. Only 23 were awarded across 133 organizations made
proposals. Ready to Work –New Jersey in its first year led all the 23 grants across the county and
