Occupational First Aid-Level 1When accidents happen you need to be able to handle the situation. This 7-hour program equips you with emergency skills needed to stabilize an injured person until trained help arrives. Paramedic In Industry Are you currently a paramedic in BC wishing to work as a designated Occupational First Aid (OFA) attendant in industry? If so, you need to take this required four hour workshop to obtain your first aid certification. Upon successful completion of this bridging course, including a written exam, a 3 year OFA Level 3 certificate with a ‘Paramedic in Industry’ designation will be issued. This certification is only valid when the paramedic has current licensure as an emergency medical responder; a primary care paramedic; or an advanced care paramedic. Note: There are 8 home study modules that MUST be completed prior to the start of this workshop. A link to course material will be provided for access to homework once registered. Wilderness First Responder Wilderness First Responder is the most current and cutting edge course of any first response medical training (urban or remote) in the world. WFR is a definitive wilderness course in medical training, leadership, and critical thinking for outdoor, low-resource and remote professionals and leaders. This 80 hour program provides medical training for professional guides, outdoor educators, military, professional search and rescue team members and for those who travel and play in remote areas. 3 year certification as Wilderness First Responder includes CPR taught to an (HCP) level.

St John Standard for IndustryDesigned for Industry, oil patch workers, nursing students, health care professionals and general public requiring Standard First Aid certification OFA1 Equivalent, this dual certificate prepares you to offer first aid at the scene of an accident without special equipment and professional medical help. NEW! Safety Risk AssessmentSafety performance is often a measure of business success. An awareness of what the safety risks are and there potential severity is key to ensuring continual improvement in safety performance.

This 1-day course looks at how to undertake risk assessment (safety, health, security, environmental and social performance) in a systematic manner, ensuring a consistent and coherent risk management plan is created. The course will consider the difference between hazards and risks, using a risk matrix, tailoring the process to suit an organization, assigning responsibilities, effective actions and follow up. We will look at a minimum of 1 case study, based either on prepared material or scenarios suggested by the attendees.

Haul Truck Operator ProgramThis 4-week program offers an introduction to safe and efficient operation of a haul truck in a surface mining or oil sands site. Haul Truck operators are in demand in mines across Canada as well as the Alberta oil sands. Haul Truck operator is the common entry-level job in a mine site. Utilizing state-of-the-art motion-based simulators, classroom-led and online modules include safety and operating procedures, warning systems and protocols, assessing and reacting to alarms, emergency scenarios, walk-around inspections and cab controls, start-up, shutdown, braking, steering, tire care, dumping and loading procedures. Our program uses simulators for both Komatsu and Caterpillar haul trucks, which are most commonly used in large surface pit operations in Canada. The program includes instruction in the following safety tickets: Mine Supervisor Certificate (Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC), Standard First Aid for Industry (2-day), WHMIS and Construction Safety Training System (CSTS).

Pre-requisites: Age 18, Grade 12 or equivalent, Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Declaration of physical ability to climb a ladder and informational conversation with HTO lead instructor.

HSRC Mining Supervisor Safety This one-day course is designed for contractors who work on mine sites and covers the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC. Prerequisites to complete Mining Supervisor Safety Course: A valid 1-day first aid certificate and a valid (under two years old) WHMIS certificate.

Avalanche Skills Training 1 Each year increasing numbers of skiers, snowboarders, and climbers venture into the mountains to enjoy snow-related outdoor recreation. Regrettably, each year some of these people die in avalanches. AST programs are an essential first step to safe backcountry use in the winter. Course topics include avalanche terrain recognition, avalanche climatology, snow stability elevation, alpine touring practices, avalanche accidents and search and rescue techniques. This course is instructed by a qualified member of CAA. Class size is limited to 16.

NEW! Avalanche Skills Training 2 This is a hands-on course featuring extensive practical field experience augmented with one day of classroom theory and discussions. This course builds on the knowledge and skills learned in the AST 1 by exploring more advanced topics and snow tests. The curriculum is designed to give a solid grounding in the essentials and is based on the requirements set out by Avalanche Canada. Your instructors are certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides as well as the Canadian Avalanche Association. This program is suitable for those who have taken the AST 1 program, you have solid experience in the backcountry and you dedicate most of your free time to recreating in the backcountry. This course offers 9.5 hours of classroom studies and 3 days of field instruction. Class size is limited to 8.

Raft Guides CertificationThis 14-day course includes four days of Swiftwater/Flood Rescue Technician Level 3 (SFR-T) certificate plus 10 days of training on the Elk and Bull Rivers. Identify river dynamics and utilize all rafting equipment, related safety gear and clothing, demonstrate river rescue and self-rescue techniques and maneuver the raft up to class 4 water using oar and paddle strokes. Participants must be 19 years of age, a strong swimmer, and understand English. Course includes: SFR-T certification ($555 value), 10 days on the Elk and Bull Rivers, rafts – self-bailing, oars, paddles, frames, first aid kits, transportation to and from the river sites, BC Raft Guides Manual, SRT Manual and Certificate of Competency (upon successful completion).

BACKCOUNTRY SKIING EDUCATIONAL ADVENTURES Learning begins with the basics of ski touring and progresses through important aspects of decision making, hazard recognition, terrain analysis and powder skiing techniques.
