COVER NOTEPREPARING FOR NOVEMBER 2019 IPM
The November 2019 IPM Information Pack has been designed to provide you with advanced
information, so as to maximise your participation at the upcoming meeting. Here, you will find details
on how each Theme Week is coming to life and the available programmes for you to express interest in.
This Information Pack also includes a mapping of International Participants’ interests, so that you are
enabled to better connect with each other at the IPM itself. Programming opportunities at the Expo
are structured as follows:
- On November 29, you will hear a presentation on how daily programming at Expo is coming
to life.
- On November 30, you will be invited to attend workshops giving further details on what was
addressed on the plenary stage the day before.
- Expo will also provide venues for you to discuss programming with one another, among them
a large room available all day, at your leisure, for effective interaction between Participants, as
well as dedicated areas for Participants to present their own programming offerings.
Please note that this pack highlights our main Theme Weeks. Daily programming will be explained
during the presentation on November 29, from the everyday essentials featuring arts, music, culture,
gastronomy, sport and business.
We look forward to seeing you at the IPM and taking our discussions forward, so we can connect
minds to create the future, together.

EXPO 2020 DUBAI: CORE MESSAGE
Through the promise of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’’, Expo 2020 aims to create more
aware and thoughtful global citizens, encouraging collaboration between actors and triggering
positive engagement.
We submit to creating an experience that crosses the threshold of pure information, creates platforms
for learning and knowledge and triggers a deeper level of awareness in all who visit.
Over 173 days, we will entertain and inspire, educate and engage. We will create experiences and
platforms that enable us to find additional, enriching identities as members of larger communities and
ultimately, people who share a common humanity.
In a hyper-connected world, media headlines and broad public perceptions argue that the world is
engulfed in challenge. Although data shows that as an international community, we are better off than
we have ever been before. We are also very optimistic about our collective future.
In September 2019, Expo 2020 Dubai commissioned the Global Optimism Outlook Survey, polling
more than 20,000 people across 23 countries broken down by geography, gender, employment
and income. We found that people around the world are unified in a desire for a more collaborative,
inclusive, tolerant, clean, and stable planet.
Findings show the health of the planet, inclusivity, and access to education significantly outweigh the
desire for improved technologies, connectivity speeds, and robotics. Open dialogue, communication
and collaboration between individuals and communities were cited as priorities for the future.
Nine in ten respondents believe individuals and communities can shape the future through greater
knowledge sharing, communication and collaboration, ahead of technological advances. Knowledge
sharing, learning and greater access to education stood out as a dominant theme across all regions and
more than half of global respondents believe that open dialogue and coming together to exchange
ideas is essential to unlocking opportunity in the future.
6
EXPO 2020 DUBAI:FLIP YOUR WORLDVIEW
By explaining the world using data, in a way that everyone can understand, Flip Your Worldview will
dismantle global misconceptions and help each of us understand one another. Through collaboration
with the Gapminder Foundation, Expo 2020 Dubai will run a programme called Flip Your Worldview to
dismantle global misconceptions and help us foster deeper global connections and understanding.
Gapminder and Expo 2020 Dubai are offering International Participants an opportunity to crystalise
meaningful insights about themselves, design impactful pavilion experiences and facilitate appealing
visitor engagement through eliminating common misperceptions, all in an attempt to flip the visitor’s
worldview.
Countries can opt for one of three packages, starting with a baseline report summarizing survey results from all participating countries:
• Standard (Covered by Expo):
- 4-page country report.
- Country study predicting visitor misconceptions, crystalising 6 misconceptions across
Gapminder-selected SDG topics and 6 insights through testing 18 fact-based questions in a
survey of 500 respondents in one country.
• Optional Add-ons (Offered at cost to IPs):
- Analytical 20-page country report.
- Gapminder will analyse country data and serve as an advisor to help countries enhance
pavilion focus and content.
- Country study predicting visitor misconceptions, crystalising 18 misconceptions and 24
insights across 36 IP-selected topics through testing 48 fact-based questions in a survey of
500-1,000 respondents across ten countries (5 selected by Gapminder, 5 by the IP).
• Full Package (Offered at cost to IPs):
- Analytical 20-page country report.
- Gapminder will analyse country data and serve as an advisor to help countries enhance
pavilion focus and content.
- Country study predicting visitor misconceptions, crystalising 18 misconceptions and 24
insights across 36+ country-selected topics through testing 48 fact-based questions in
a survey of 1,000 respondents in 31+ IP-selected countries.
Gapminder is an independent educational foundation from Sweden, specialised in identifying and dismantling systematic misconceptions. During the past 20 years, Gapminder has developed a method to predict what people are wrong about, which can be used to help inform public communicators what their audiences need to learn. Since 2017, the Gapminder research team has developed an approach to shift public mindsets about countries across the world, through which they have tested thousands of fact questions across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and beyond.

EXPO 2020 PROGRAMME
STRUCTURE
10
Data shows that as an international community, we are better off than we have ever been before. We
are also committed and responsible actors who have signed up to Global Goals and a unified vision for
humanity, where human dignity and opportunity can be equally experienced by all.
Expo 2020 Dubai provides an ideal opportunity for us all to communicate how far we’ve come as
nations, organisations and people, and then to identify areas for policy dialogue, partnership brokerage
and people-facing engagement around how we can continue to build a common and bright future for
the generations that will follow us.
Through our programming, we will not only celebrate the significant strides we’ve made, but also
facilitate connections and broker partnerships that will drive us forward to seek and act on creative,
innovative and effective solutions to do even better in the decade we have left to achieve our shared
ambitions. Expo’s programme will highlight the role of the individual and collective in keeping up the
momentum and strive to create 25 million individual moments of recognition for empowered and
optimistic individuals to understand their role in building a brighter future for all.
Through our focus weeks we hone in on eight issues that we believe are crucial in unlocking humanity’s
full potential: Climate, Urban Development and Cities, Travel and Exploration, Health and Wellness,
Innovation, Agriculture and Livelihood Development, Women and Girls, and Water. Recognising
the importance of the Global Goals, we also have one week dedicated to celebrating the five-year
anniversary of the SDGs and marking the start of the Decade of Action to 2030.
