PART – B

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the Institution:

� Apart from the regular curriculum of Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, we had the

privilege of framing the syllabi for the 8 certificate courses, 33 value added courses and

one diploma course to reflect the goals and objectives of the Institution (Table 1 & 2).

� Complete flexibility is in practice for the students to select either the value added course

of their choice or a certificate course offered by the University.

� To enhance the employability of our students, the institution has tie-up / MoU with

reputed institutions / industries.

� A tie-up with ICWAI, Madurai Chapter opens the gateway for the students to qualify

for ICWAI degree.

� A tie-up programme with MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, is

arranged for the conduct of Cisco Certified Network Association (CCNA) training

programme.

� A tie-up programme is arranged with Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College, Sivakasi,

for the benefit of students to undergo a certificate courses on hardware mechanism

and two-wheeler mechanism.

� An MoU is signed with Sivakasi Institute of Printing Technology, Sivakasi, for the

benefit of the students to undergo the certificate course in mini offset and screen

printing.

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG & PG):

The following new academic programmes were introduced.

� M.Sc. (CS & IT) course was started.

� Mathematics for competitive examination as a value added course

� A one year certificate course in Hotel Management & Catering Science

� A new valued added course ‘Scripting Languages’ was introduced

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:

A Commerce syllabus review committee meet was held (comprising experts of the

Commerce faculty of various institutions) on 12.01.2012.

A Mathematics syllabus review committee meet was held (comprising experts of the

Mathematics faculty of various institutions) on 09.07.2011.

4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started:

� In CBCS pattern, 100% flexibility is followed for choosing non-major electives

� Complete flexibility for choosing value added courses

� M.Sc. (CS & IT) course introduced in this academic year.

� Complete flexibility in selecting certificate courses offered by Madurai Kamaraj

University, Madurai.

5. Examination reforms implemented:

Being an affiliated institution, University norms for conducting the examination are followed

without violating any rules and regulations.

6. Candidates qualified: NET/SLET/GATE etc.

We are encouraging the staff and students to take any type of examination.

To improve the quality of teaching, the Faculty Academic Forum organised orientation

Feedback – Students assessment of teachers:

Feedback is collected from all the students at the end of the year. After scrutinizing the

feedback forms, grievances are rectified immediately. Last year we had complaints about the

completion of the syllabus. Enquiry was conducted and effective measures were taken.

Measures were taken to improve the efficacy of Language Lab classes.

25. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination

results, issue of certificates:

Our office is using specific software developed in VB produced by Dolphin Software

Solutions, Coimbatore, for the admission and administration purpose and our library is using

‘LIPS’ Software obtained from Dolphin Software Solutions, Coimbatore.

Biometric system of attendance is introduced for both teaching and non-teaching

staff members.

26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities:

Nurtured by a munificent Management, our nascent institution has registered

phenomenal development in terms of buildings and infrastructure.

• In addition to the 66 classrooms already available, four new classrooms in an area of

990, 990, 980 & 840 sq.ft. were constructed with all facilities (desks, benches, light, fans,

chair & table etc).

• A separate room is allotted for Mathematics Laboratory.

• Transport facilities are increased from nine buses to fourteen buses.

• Additional purified water plant

• Speed control unit installed in all buses

• A ramp has been constructed in MBA block

• Air-conditioned syndicate room, group discussion room in MBA block.

Fixed assets like Computers, Electrical Equipments, Furniture, Hostel Furniture, Laboratory

Equipments, Library Books, Machinery and Sports goods were purchased to meet the growing

needs of the increased strength of the students. Repairs and maintenance were carried out in

the laboratories, buses, generators, hostels, office equipment & two-wheelers then and there.

Internet facilities were provided to the boys’ hostel.

27. Technology upgradation:

In computer laboratory, advanced software like PHP, WAM, TOMCAT and NETBEANS are

upgraded.

Employee payroll software is purchased and it is integrated with Biometric attendance

software. It has provision to generate auto salary report.

28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students:

� Leased line Internet connection provided to all PG departments, Language Lab, Hotel

Management & Catering Science, boys’ hostel and girl’s hostel.

� Separate Internet Lab is available for both teaching and non-teaching faculties. Teaching

faculty use the Internet facilities free of cost to prepare their study materials and for their

research activities.

� Non-teaching faculty also use the Internet facilities free of cost for their higher studies.

� All the UG and PG students use the Internet at a nominal cost of Rs.10/- per hour.

� Research scholars also use Internet free of cost.

� Internet awareness programme was organised by the Department of Commerce (CA) on

27.07.2011 to first year B.Com.(CA) students.

29. Financial aid to students during 2011-2012:

� The Institution lends a helping hand to uplift the students who are economically poor.

Government scholarships are distributed to the needy students.

� Our wards are getting loans from various banks; both nationalized and private.

� The staff club offers liberal help whenever it is needed.

� Kaliswarians get the financial support from various trusts including the Management.

� From corpus fund Rs.24,851/- to support 14 economically poor students.

� An amount of Rs.17,44,430/- was sanctioned by the state government to 367 SC/ST

students.

� An amount of Rs.71,810/- earned by K.Balaji, III B.Com.(CA) through ‘Earn while you

learn’ scheme (binding of books)

30. Support from the Alumni Association and its activities:

� Alumni book bank is also available to issue books to the UG students.

� The alumni visited their alma mater occasionally and several meetings were arranged to

create awareness to the outgoing students about their future prospects.

� On 22.06.2011, a parent–teacher meeting was conducted for all the parents of I UG & I

� Parents co-operate with the college authorities in extension activities and social

services.

� Performance of the students is monitored by sending the progress reports to the parents

periodically and feedback is collected from them

� Parents convey their grievances to the Secretary and the Principal by sending mail and

over the phone

� Parents co-operate with college to maintain discipline and decorum of the college and

helped smooth running of the college and hostel

� Whenever a situation arises to consult the parent about the absenteeism and irregularity

32. Health services:

• Dr.P.Ponmoorthyraja, M.B.B.S., visited the college on all working days.

• Dr.P.Ponmoorthyraja, M.B.B.S., visited the boys’ hostel thrice a week and the girls’

hostel thrice a week from 5.30 P.M. to 6.30 P.M.

• A meditation class was conducted along with the Yoga class for girls in the hostel

• Free medical treatment and medicines were given to the students

• In emergency cases, students are taken to the Physician by the college van

• Students donate blood for the needy, poor people who are in critical situation

• Awareness programme on ‘Acupuncture’ and free acupuncture medical treatment for all

II UG students was conducted on 28 & 29.07.2011 by Dr.Manthiramoorthy and

Dr.Krishnaswamy from IISED, Madurai.

• A free eye check-up camp was conducted on 04 & 05.07.2011 in association with Vasan

Eye Care, Madurai. 740 students attended the camp and 525 students were identified

with minor eye defects.

• Food provided in the canteen was periodically checked by canteen co-ordinators.

• In the hostel, the menu was decided and monitored by the students

� Purified water facility available for students

� Special care has been taken to maintain the toilet inside the campus in hygienic

condition

� Synthetic beverages are not allowed inside the campus both in the canteen and hostels

� Special care taken for the cooking oils used in both the canteens and hostels

� Incinerators are installed, one in the ladies’ hostel and another in ladies’ toilet on the

campus to dispose the wastage

� Open gym is available to hostel students. Indoor gym is used by the students at nominal

cost, Rs.100/- per month

� Teaching and non-teaching faculties also use the gym. Rs.100/- is collected from them

as life time fee.

� Visiting faculty appointed for yoga regularly to the boys and girls separately

� One day breathing exercise and meditation class taken by Mrs.Vijayalakshmi on

19.08.2011 and 22.08.2011 for all first UG students.

� First aid is given to the students when they need during college hours by the Physical

Director as and when required

� On 28th July the NSS Units organised the Blood Donation Camp in the college premises.

Dr.N.Babuji, Blood Bank Medical Officer inaugurated the camp. This camp was

conducted in association with Sivakasi Govt. Hospital and Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. 137

Donors donated their blood.

� The NSS units No. 192, 209 & 193 organized a state level workshop on “First Aid and

Basic Life Support” on 26th September 2011. NSS volunteers from various colleges and

our NSS volunteers participated in this progrramme. Dr.V.Chinnaiah, Professor and Co-

ordinator of NSS Madurai Kamaraj University, Dr.S.Balasubramanian, Director of Health

Services, Virudhunagar and Sivakasi, Dr.M.Kathiresan, Blood Bank Medical Officer,

Government Hospital, Sivakasi, Dr.Ravi, Medical Officer, M.Pudhupatti, Dr.T.Ayyanar,

were the chief guest.

� The NSS units No. 192, 209 & 193 in association with Yoga cell organized a one day

workshop on Yoga, Meditation and Natural food on 04.12.2011. Mr.A.Marimuthu, Hindi

Lecturer, demonstrated and thought the various Yoga between 6.30 and 7.30 am. The

resource person Mr. Selvarajan, Iyarkai Nala Vazhvu Sangam, highlighted the Sooriya

Namaskar Asana from 7.30 to 8.30 am. Our chief guest Mr.Maranji D.N.Y.S Naturopathy

and Yoga Consultant gave an eminent lecture on “Naturopathy and Yoga Cure” at

9.30am. In between 12.30 and 1.30 pm the another chief guest Selvan S.P.Ganesh

delivered a lecture on “Acupressure therapy”. In the Afternoon session our chief guest

Mr. Maranji explained the various yoga practices especially to the Women’s health.

During 4.00 to 4.30 pm. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, Pranic healing instructor, pragmatically

exhibited the process of Pranic healing. We also organized the Marital Arts

Demonstration.

� The NSS Units organised a guest lecture on “Transgender Issue and HIV” on

13.12.2011. Mr. Bharathi Kannamma, Director, Bharathi Kannamma Trust, was the chief

guest of this function. He explained the various problems faced by the Transgender

people and their rights. The chair person also narrated the nature of HIV and its effect.

� The NSS Units No 192 & 209 organised the “Eye Donation Awareness Camp” on

20.01.2012. Lion Dr.J.Ganesh, MJF, was the chief guest of the function. During this

camp eye donation awareness video clippings and awareness notices were distributed

to the students.

� The NSS Units organised a guest lecture on “Importance of Hygiene and Behaviour” on

27.01.2012. Mr. P. Srinivasan, Head, Department of Hotel Management and Catering

Science was the resource person. He explained the various regular activities of the

human being and how to make the activities in a good manner.

� The NSS Units No.192 & 209 in association with Rotary Club organised an awareness

rally on “Polio Eradication” Dr.K.Kathiravan, Chairman, Sivakasi Municipality presided

over the rally. He moved the flag and commenced the rally. The rally started from

Sivakasi Municipality and passed through the four car street.

� The NSS Units organised a Training Cum Cultural Programme on HIV in association

with RRC on 15.03.2012. Mr.S.Sivamoorthy, RRC District Manager was the chief guest.

He explained he basic information about the HIV and its harmful impacts on human

beings. The trainee from MKU organised skit programme about HIV.

33. Performance in sports activities:

� Our college Annual Sports Day was celebrated on 25th January, 2012. We have divided

students into four houses – Red, Blue, Green and Yellow and we have organised House

Competitions in ten games and twelve track & field events for boys and girls.

� Besides students participated in various sports activities held in various colleges and

universities.

37. Placement services provided to students:

There is a Placement Cell actively functioning on our campus. The cell frequently

arranges campus interviews. They also take our boys and girls to off-campus

interviews.

The Placement Cell of our college is established for making the students

employable, finding opportunities in different companies/ other organizations. Both on-

T.A. at the end of the academic year.

40. Linkages developed with National/ International, academic/ research bodies:

• A tie-up programme with Sivakasi Institute of Printing Technology, Sivakasi, to

conduct ‘Mini-offset and screen printing’ course

• A tie-up programme with MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College was started on

20.11.2009. In this course, our students are undergoing CCNA Training

Programme offered by the Department of Electronics and Communication

Engineering in MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi.

� There are three NSS units (two for boys - Unit No.192 & 209 and one for girls –

Unit No.193) on our premises carrying out a series of programmes.

� The Citizen Consumer Club was established to create consumer awareness

among the students.

� There is an MoU already signed by Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi with WWF-

Nature Club, Rajapalayam.

� The college has registered phenomenal development in terms of buildings,

infrastructure and the number of courses offered within a short span of ten years.

The college was started in 2000 with a modest student strength of 55 and three

courses. Now the college has to its credit a record number of 13 UG courses and

as many as 7 PG courses including the prestigious MBA course. Now the student

strength is 2349.

� The college has completed twelve years of meritorious service to the rural and

economically backward community.

� We have got 12(b) status on June, 2010.

� We have completed twelve years and we have sent the proposal for Conferment
