Naked Hermit Crab WalkThe Naked Hermit Crabs have been running these nature outingfor small family and friend groups since 2007. Run by a smallgroup of nature volunteer, to raise awareness of richand fragile coastal ecosystems such as Chek Jawa. There are monitor lizards, fiddler crabs, spiders, rare plants, wild boar, mudskippers and lots of fruit trees. If we are lucky, might even spot the Oriental Pied Hornbill, White-bellied Sea Eagle and the giant Atlas Moth.

Butterfly Flutterby

With one last push, the butterfly escapes from it cocoon. Fluttering itsbrightly coloured wings, the butterfly takes flight for the first time. Join us in our monthly organised survey to monitor the species diversity of butterflies on the island.

Bird Ringing Programme

Bird banding or bird ringing is a technique employed in the study ofbirds. Rings are carefully fitted to the legs of the birds by trained people. Each ring usually carries a unique identification in the form of an alpha-numeric combination inscribed on it as well as a contact address for notification should someone come across a bird with a ring.

The bird banding programme is vital as it provides up-to-date data for properly managing sites for conservation. The results of these studies will greatly contribute to the long-term conservation of the birds and their habitats.

Operation Deadline

Operation Deadline is an activity that targets the removal of strayfishing tackles and lines left by anglers in our mangroves, beachesand ponds. Examples of stray tackles include hooks, swivels, floaterand spools. This is important because stray tackles and lines may ensnare wildlife, strangle plants, and pose a safety risk to members of the public.

Mangrove Madness

Mangroves are unique ecosystems as they provide numerous importantecological services. They serve as nursery grounds for marine organismsand habitats for our native birds and reptiles. Today, mangrove forests arehighly threatened globally due to increasing coastals developments and pollution issues. You can play an active role in coastal restoration efforts inPulau Ubin by learning to identify different mangrove species and collecting plant propagules!
