Valerio Fasoli – Biography Born in Italy, Valerio Fasoli debuted at the age of nineteen as soloist with “I Solisti Veneti di Claudio Scimone”, playing the Vivaldi Concerto For Two Flutes together with his teacher Clementine Hoogendoorn Scimone. After this concert he started a long collaboration with this world-renown chamber orchestra where he could play with soloists such as Salvatore Accardo, Evgeny Kissin and Sir James Galway. Earlier, after his classical studies, he had earned his Degree at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica in Padova with Clementine Hoogendoorn Scimone. In 1996 he received his Degree at the Accademia ltaliana del Flauto in Roma with Raymond Guiot, then in the following years he studied with Janos Balint, and had masterclasses with Aurele Nicolet, Jean-Claude Gerard, Peter-Lukas Graf, Karl-Heinz Zoeller, Rien de Reede, Lorant Kovacs, Ransom Wilson, Marzio Conti and Giuseppe Nova. In 1997 he won the audition for first flute in the Orchestra Sinfonica di Savona, president Carlo Maria Giulini, conductor Filippo Maria Bressan. 1997 saw the start of his collaborations with "I Solisti Veneti di Claudio Scimone" and with The Orchestra Sinfonica di Savona. Between 1997 and 1999 he received many prizes in National and International Competitions for flute and chamber music. In 1997/1998 he won prizes at the Emanuele Krakamp Flute National Competition, the T.I.M. International Competition, and the Cittá di Racconigi International Chamber Music Competition. In 2001 he moved to Germany, studying at the Hochschule fur Musik Trossingen, with Gulsen Tatu, and started to play as solo flute in the Ensemble PolyphonieT, conductor Manfred Schreier. Fasoli started an intensive activity as soloist and chamber musician, playing from baroque to new music, both with classical instruments and electronics. This experience gave him the opportunity to work together with some of the most important contemporary composers, such as Dieter Schnebel, Marco Stroppa, Cord Meijering, Younghi Pagh-Paan,

Valerio Fasoli – Reviews

“With three different flutes and amazing techniques Valerio Fasoli produced hot and ethereally beautiful tones and sounds.” - Stuttgarter Nachrichten “Valerio Fasoli’s flute timbre being remarkably soft and sensuous complimented the sound layers.” - Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung “Precise and experienced, convinced with a clear tone and balanced dynamic…. The analysis of different styles was audibly effective; the increasing intensity, which reached from “stile galante” to impressionism and experimentalism, was convincingly traced…. Here, the strength of the musician was clearly demonstrated: the perceptible fascination for the New Music was linked saliently with the tradition....” - Reutlinger General Anzeiger “Particularly amazing Valerio Fasoli on the flute” - Neue Musik Zeitung “With Valerio Fasoli conducting the EnsembleSolisten, the audience experienced a concert of extraordinary quality.” - Schwäbische Zeitung

Valerio Fasoli – Reviews

What a very interesting, varied walk through the centuries, we may experience with the present debut CD! The flutist Valerio Fasoli, Lecturer at the Arts Academy in Italian Narni, and Katharina Fasoli-von Harten, as a violinist soloist and member of several ensembles, have established a duo four years ago and now discover treasures for their formation. For all the works selected here, confirm a balanced and harmonious way of playing and interpretation. Nothing is unnecessarily rushed here, everything can breath, yet everything is fresh and accentuated. It is possible to feel plastically here the joie de vivre and experimentation of the Baroque composer Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, so airy and dancing act flute and violin in a balanced sound variety (despite wooden flute, which indeed can quickly get a something ponderous sounds as the metal). The sound spectrum is so rich that sometimes one thinks to recognize a piccolo and a viola. The courage to „open strings“ of the violin combined with the flute vibrato creates beautiful, yet intense clarity (E-Minor Sonata). In the third Sonata delight sparkling ornaments and soft harmony. The romantic Duo Concertant of Bernhard Molique requests in double stops and polyphony, in extreme tempos and location changes, in its change of timbre and expression, in its parallel runs a reminiscent of Paganini utmost virtuosity - (succeful!!!). Both soloists prove a very smart performance competence and a high technical level, that excuse one or two not quite clean acchord. (Even David Oistrakh said that octaves should never be too pure, because otherwise you could not hear them.) Rousing, dense and rhythmically perfect, Fasoli and Fasoli-von Harten maintains always the balance between urgent throwing bows and braking fundamental tones, in the Divertissement composed in 1962 by Harald Genzmer. Of particular interest is expected on this CD the world premiere recording of the Variations Op. 107 of Jenő Takács, the Austro-Hungarian composer, who died ten years ago. With the perky (magic-) Flute of the theme by Giovanni Paisiello - a contemporary of Haydn - conjures Fasoli the listener a smile on the face, the tense echo effects (in the furious finalfugato) can hold your breath. Infinitely delicate and filigree, wonderful agogically designed is the Schubert-dedicated Andantino - perhaps the most beautiful, most intimately felt, most heartwarming piece of this recording. The somewhat reverberant sound of Wendlinger Eusebius Church, in which the works were recorded in 2014, will not hurt the transparency of both instruments. -Carola Kessler, Das Orchester (2/2016)
