Vision

Mission

The mission of the Central University of Rajasthan is to contribute to and work with a sense of Commit-ment towards the educational, cultural, economic, environmental, health and social advancement of the region and the nation at large by providing excellent undergraduate liberal education and quality pro-

grams leading to bachelor‟s, master‟s, professional and doctorate degrees.

The University

The Central University of Rajasthan has been established by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 25 of 2009,

The Gazette of India, No. 27, published on 20th March, 2009 as a new Central University, and is fully

funded by the Government of India.

The Visitor

The President of India, His Excellency Shri. Pranab Mukherjee, is the Visitor of the Central University of Rajasthan.

Prof. M. M. Salunkhe, a renowned chemist and academician was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of the University.

The Central University of Rajasthan aspires to be one of India‟s most dynamic and vibrant universities, responsive to the changing global trends, providing unparalleled educational opportunities for the learn-er community especially for those coming from the lower socio- economic strata of society seeking quali-ty education. It proposes to offer innovative undergraduate and graduate academic programmes as well as continuing personal and professional enrichment in selected areas that will lead to the formation of a

scholarly community by advancing, sharing and applying knowledge and by facilitating the development of thoughtful, creative, sensitive and responsible citizens.

A consistently good academic record possessing a Master’s

SC/ST candidates.

NOTE: 1. 5 % relaxation in marks for SC/ST candidates for deciding minimum eligibility conditions. 2. 10% relaxation for Kashmiri migrants for deciding minimum eligibility conditions. 3. Medium of instruction for all the programmes will be English.

Information regarding Central Universities Common Entrance Test

1. Availability of online application for CUCET and date of submission will be notified on

website shortly.

2. Admission to all the programmes of the 11 Central Universities will be based on COMMON

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION to be conducted on 18-19 May, 2013 (For Integrated Pro-

grammes), 15-16 May, 2013 (For PG programmes), 14 July, 2013 (Research Programmes).

3. Admission test centers will be notified on the website. If the number of candidates opting

for a particular centre is not viable, they will be allocated the nearest centre. The decision of

the convener is final in this regard.

4. Certain courses have additional screening process such as interviews/group discussions etc

where applicable. Application are required to check from he respective University for this

information.

5. Applicants awaiting results in the qualifying examination may also apply. However, their

admission will be subject to their passing and getting the minimum eligible marks in the

qualifying examination, the proof of which shall be submitted before the last date fixed for

the completion of the admission formalities by the Universities concerned.

6. It is the applicants’ responsibility to ensure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria as notified

by the various Universities.

7. Admission to the Central Universities is governed by the Central Education Institutions

(reservation in admission) ACT.

8. The respective University reserve the right to Launch or drop any academic programmes at

any stage.

CUCET 2013

Admission to all courses will be based on common entrance examination, CUCET -2013, which will be

conducted at various centers all over India. Online-offline Application for CUCET 2013 and syllabus

for the entrance test will be available on the website. For detailed information, please visit our website

www.curaj.ac.in

The list of successful candidates will be announced on the University website following which the

University will Bandarsindri campus. The dates and schedule of counseling will be announced on the

University website. The selected students will have to get themselves admitted to the course immedi-

ately following counseling by paying the prescribed fee.

The eleven Central Universities, namely Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Jammu, Kashmir. Orissa, Rajasthan,

Jharkhand, Punjab, Gujarat, Karnataka have come together to conduct a common entrance test for pro-

grams offered in these Universities. This test enables a candidate, as a single window facility, to seek

admission to integrated programmes after 10 +2, postgraduate & research programs in these eleven

Universities.

The University is governed by the reservation policies of the Government of India as issued and

amended from time to time.

The reservation policy followed by the university for the current academic year is as follows:

5% relaxation to SC/ST candidates in the qualifying examination.

Scholarships

Fee Structure

Scholarships of Rs. 1000/- per month to First Three Toppers in each programme by Central Univer-

sity of Rajasthan.

Single Girl Child Scholarship of Rs. 2000/ - per month by UGC (Government of India).

M. Tech. GATE Scholarship.

Scholarship for ST/SC/OBC/BPL students by (Government of Rajasthan).

Scholarship for minority students by Govt. of Rajasthan.

Post –Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders at Undergraduate Level of Rs. 2000/

- per month by UGC (Government of India).

Post –Graduate Scholarship for selected SC/ST candidates of Rs. 5000/- per month (M. Tech.) and

Rs. 3000/- per month for other professional courses.

All Ph.D. students, not receiving other Scholarship will be given Central University of Rs. 8000/-

per month.

Preamble

The course on English engages with literatures and cultures in English or translated into English and interprets and

formulates cultural theories. The subject is also a study of not only how language is used in literature but also of the (a)

intimate connection between language and culture; (b) the displacement of language by hegemonic structures; (c) the

significance of language in formulating, spreading and continuing ideas; (d) the imperial-colonial debates centred on

language. In its concerns with literature, the subject engages with (a) processes of creativity and of appreciation i.e.,

poetics and aesthetics; (b) comparative literature across languages and cultures; (c) the act of literary representation

and of methodologies, traditions and schools of interpretation; (d) the connection between visual representation, ver-

bal image building and the nature of the mimetic act; and (e) with the politics of language.

Language is multi-functional and is used in multiple contexts – communication, diplomacy, power, art and ideas

amongst many others. The human being is a language animal and both memory and time (in the sense of past, present

and future) are dependent on it as a medium. It is used for rhetoric, political persuasion, assertion and media.

M.A. English engages with literatures and cultures in English or translated into English and interprets and formulates

cultural theories. It covers several areas with the following objectives in mind:

To impart essential knowledge of literary forms, movements and trends in contemporary theory and interdiscipli-

nary extensions.

To train students to use their expertise for careers in journalism, translation, translation for newspaper syndics,

forty years. After the presentation, the popular Hindi Movie “Dabang” was screened to analyze the changing

nuances in films.

A workshop on „Research Methodology‟ was organized at the Architecture Studio. Prof. Mandal discussed

Preamble

Study of language and literature enriches sociology which helps to understand the ethnic-geographical unity, fellow-

ship of faiths, social institutions and Indian Culture from the different parts of India.

Hindi is the second most spoken language in the world after Mandarin Chinese. It is the National and official language

of India. Being the birth place of the famous Hindi mystic and Rajasthani poetess Meerabai of Krishna cult of Hindi lit-

erature, the university is proud to establish the Department of Hindi.

Hindi Department aims at providing teaching and research facilities in the various fields - contemporary literature, fic-

tion, Comparative literature of Hindi with other Indian Languages. Present day i.e., in the emerging post Industrial so-

cio-economic and political net-work called globalization and the functional hierarchy between English and other lan-

guage is likely to increase. Globalization will give impetus to Hindi language in India by increasing its use in new do-

mains in the field of advertising, media, consultancy, information technology, call-centers, travel, transport, hospitality

and cross-national networking parallel to English.

Nature & Scope Keeping in view of the post modern society and the global needs and of communication patterns, the syllabus of Hindi

is framed by the University. To train the students in the field of corporate sectors functional Hindi has been introduced

in each semester as a compulsory paper which includes computers and its development, Journalism – Web Journalism,

mass media etc. Keeping the view of the unemployment problem the Dept. of Hindi also offers the compulsory paper

related to the most popular entertainment media the Indian cinema where the students read and learn about the

screen play, script-writing, dialogue writing, techniques of photography with the support of other depts.

Special attention is also given to the students by taking U.G.C.(N.E.T/J.R.F) classes as a part of the curriculum.

The Hindi Dept. focuses not only the study of Hindi language and literature but also other classical languages of

India by offering an optional paper at the P.G. level like studying the poems of Tagore (Bangla), Kumaranashan

(Malayalam) Subrahmanya Bharathi (Tamil) etc.

The programme Enviro-Economics aims to develop the understanding about the interlinkages between the economy and

the environment. With a meteoric rise in the level of public concern, sustainable environment has become not only a

desirable but a necessary goal for development. In the same stream, the conservation of natural resources and its sustain-

able use is also gaining importance. The programme intends to incorporate this vital aspect of development by cultivat-

ing and fostering the advancement of learning and application of the economic tools in dealing with environmental and

resource problems.

In recent years, the concept of the Environmental Economics has emerged as a potential remedy to some of the key mar-

ket and institutional failures that characterize the conventional development model, and as a more effective pathway to

advancing economic, social, and environmental goals. Environmental Economics, although has its roots in externality

theories, public good theories and the general equilibrium theory of the mid-twentieth century, the field really took off

in the last quarter of the last century and has been growing ever since.

The second development is the large scale use of quantitative methods made possible by the IT revolution. This has

made generation of data, its dissemination and access for analysis easy. Business Analytics has emerged as an important

area using quantitative techniques in the design of business strategies. India has developed as the important Knowledge

Processing Hub in business analytics for major financial, marketing and consultancy institutions across the world.

The programme is a timely response to the growing concerns for deteriorating quality of environment and natural re-

source base. The courses are designed to develop multi-disciplinary skills among the students to tackle the complex en-

vironmental and economic issues. Apart from the micro, macro, international and monetary economics, there is a special

focus on environmental economics, natural resource economics, global and national environmental issues, environmen-

tal impact assessment and sustainable development. Besides, econometrics, theories of economic growth, public

In recent times, the idea of the text has expanded from the merely literary to all forms of cultural production, and media

has come to be a powerful means of expressing culture. Media literacy has become an important skill that enables an

understanding of society and culture. Hence the conceptual and formal aspects of culture and media need to be stud-

ied in order to grasp local, national and global social complexities. The M. A. Programme in Culture and Media Studies

is designed to enabling the student to understand how culture shapes individuals and communities and is in turn

shaped by them. The programme aims to prepare students who will enter the world of media and culture with a criti-

cal perspective and analytical mind and with an introduction to various media technologies and narratives.

Objective To develop a clear grasp of the key concepts of cultural studies and media studies;

To help understand the cultural dynamics of society with the help of contemporary theory and to equip with stu-

dents the analytical tools to study diverse media and cultural practices;

Nature & Scope This course would enable student to pursue further research or careers in craft and heritage related domains and

production of films, documentaries, radio and TV programmes. Depending on their individual interests, the stu-

dents will find openings in the government agencies or international bodies like UNESCO or NGOs related to

culture, in publishing houses and electronic media and also as film critics.

Objective

Organized One week Orientation programme for M.A. (Social Work) Semester-I, 2012 from 18th to 25th July,

institutions and government welfare departments have been invited to deliberate on different areas of social

work intervention

Organized „Poster Exhibition Events‟ on University Convocation Day, 1st September, 2012 at Central Univer-

sity of Rajasthan. The students exhibited the issues of rural areas and social work intervention/activities

through display of posters.

Organized Day-long „Exposure Visit‟ for M.A. (Social Work) Semester-I, 2012 on 2nd August, 2012 at Mahila

Sada Suraksha Kendra (MSSK), Dudu, Rajasthan. The exposure visit to MSSK oriented students about the

causes and consequences of Domestic Violence, Domestic violence Act 2005 and roles and responsibilities of

service providers.

Organised Day-long „General Health Camp‟ in collaboration with Mahaveer Cancer Hospital, Jaipur and

YN.Hospital, Kishangarh, Rajasthan on 14th October, 2012 at Bandarsindri village and the University campus.

The event was a huge success with more than 500 people participated and got the benefits of general health

check up and free medicine at health camp. The purpose of creating awareness through exhibition amongst

the people regarding the cancer importance of lifestyle, physical activity and nutrition in prevention and

management of lifestyle-related diseases was fulfilled to a large extent through the health camp.

Promotion of Community Radio Scheme (CRS), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of

India. In order to introduce the concept and utility of CRS to the target rural population, the preliminary

meetings have been conducted at Patan, Bandersindhri and Mundoti villages on 18th and 19th October, 2012.

The Head, Faculty members and Students of Department of Social Work, Central University of Rajasthan ac-

tively participated in the meeting and played a pivotal role in communicating the importance of Community

Radio programme for the overall development of rural areas.

Establishment of Day Care Centre: In order to understand the need of children between 3-6 years of age, when

their parents (University employees) are away from home during day. The Department of Social Work has

taken a call and opened a Day Care Centre at Central University of Rajasthan for the children of university

employees and other beneficiaries.

Inception of Community College: In order to follow the mandate of Ministry of Human Resource Develop-

ment and meet the great demand-supply mismatch in the country as economy needs much more skilled man-

power in India. The Department of Social Work, Central University of Rajasthan took lead to start

„Community College‟ through different Educational institutions of Rajasthan from the academic session 2013.

Moreover, It also brought together all stakeholders such as industry, business, service sectors as well as NGO

sector to update on the requirements of skill development and become responsible stakeholders in curriculum

development, training of trainers, providing guest faculty, practical training, evaluation and future employ-

ment of the learners who graduate from these community colleges.

Future Prospects The primary objective of MBA programme is to provide quality education in management field as per internation-

Dr. AshishPareek , Associate Professor , Central University of Himachal Pradesh delivered guest lectures on business plan formulation & new venture creation on September 17, 2012. He described the qualities of a good entrepreneur and the steps in the process of business plan formulation and new venture crea-tion. He explained the importance of creativity in the business plan & how one can be more creative in one‟s thought process. 27 students of the MBA semester III & faculty members of the department attend-ed the lecture.

Guest Lecture on “Time Management” by Prof. Neeraj Gupta

Prof. Neeraj Gupta, head, Department of Architecture delivered a guest lecture on “Time Management” on October 05, 2012. He emphasized on the value of time and told that wasting the time is as losing the money. He told that time is precious and it should be managed. In the last he described various tech-niques , which can be used in managing the time. Around 22 students of MBA Semester I attended the lecture.

Guest lecture on “International Business Affairs” by Prof. B. H. Khondolker

Prof. Khondolker from University of Dhaka, delivered a special lecture on International Business Affairs and its significance in present scenario. He emphasized on various issues of south Asian countries.

Workshops Two days workshop on “Design and tools of research for projects” organized for MBA students on Nov 26 & 27,

2012. Dr. Sanjeev Gupta from Central University of Himachal elaborated the practical aspects of research. He em-

phasized on designing questionnaire, sample designing, application of analytical tools for research study. Stu-

dents learned about the practical implications of SPSS while exercising the research problems.

MOU’s MOU with Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad

Department of Management has signed Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Public En-terprise, Hyderabad on Feb 7, 2011. Both the institutions shall collaborate in academic events, placement and research. Faculty exchange and student exchange were also the highlights of the agreement.

MOU with Genpact CURAJ has signed an MOU with Genpact and the broad objective of the collaboration is to establish a collaborative framework for the parties to strengthen their shared objectives and facilitate an open and reciprocal exchange of information on all aspects necessary to ensure a successful Partnership. The Part-nership includes, but is not limited to, constituting Awards or Scholarships, setting up a Genpact Knowledge Center for Finance and Actuarial Studies, creation of elective tracks around Finance and Ac-tuarial Studies or other streams and other mutually agreed initiatives based on such terms as may be agreed to between the parties. The Genpact Best Student Trophy. Genpact has constituted a rolling trophy for the Best Student at

CURAJ and the student will be awarded each year shall be selected mutually by the Executive Com-mittee/Governance Council. The student thus selected is given a Citation/Certificate and may also be given a monetary award as decided by Genpact.

Finance Lab - Genpact Knowledge Center for Finance and Actuarial Studies: Genpact and CURAJ are working together to create at the CURAJ campus a Finance Lab called “Genpact Knowledge Center for Finance and Actuarial Studies” focusing primarily on Finance , Account , Actuarial Studies and associ-ated business intelligence. This initiative is going to fill skill deficiencies, augment career paths and prepare talented scholars for exciting opportunities in high growth and emerging industries.

Genpact-CURAJ Summer Internship Program & Campus Recruitments & Placements.. Genpact pro-vides summer Internship Program to the students of CURAJ to further the goals of the Partnership and its constituent initiatives. Genpact also agrees to hire the students from CURAJ‟s per its business plan

Industry Council. CURAJ is going to create an Industry Council that will consist of leaders from vari-ous industries. The Council shall be free to develop its own rules of functioning and shall make recom-mendations from time to time towards building a strong industry-academia linkage with CURAJ. CURAJ agrees to invite individuals from Genpact to be part of this Council.

Departmental Activities Case Analysis Competition

Case Analysis competition was organized for Management students on Aug 17‟2012 students from sem I & II participated in six groups. It was initiated to enhance the analytical ability and conceptual clarity among students related to different business situations. Students were provided different real cases of some organizations and they tried to convert their theoretical knowledge in to practice to solve those problems. Group fourth won the first prize and group II & III got II prize

Prof. R. C. Sharma delivered two hour session on basics of econometrics and its managerial applications on October 12, 2012 to the students of the department of Management as well as Statistics. He simply explained the concept of Econometrics and its uses in various functional areas of Management. He also told to the stu-dents that how interpretations can be made from various statistical measures. He also gave first hand prac-tice on SPSS software. Forty six students and faculty members of the department attended the session.

Ad-Mad Competition An Ad-Mad competition was organized for Management students on Oct- 19‟2012, in total 30 students in

six groups participated (from sem I & II). It‟s a Mad world specially when it comes to Ads. Creativity combined with a trace of humor added spice to the competition as students were given weird products like Mobile other than CDMA & GSM, Bike with all modes of transport (Air, Road, Water), trip to Moon, Penwhich can convert thoughts in to words, electric broom etc, and they had to prepare a Ad at the same. It was very crazy and at the same time very funny to do and for that reason it was the most ad-mired and joyful event in array of management events. The group fourth won the first prize (Pen- which can convert thoughts in to words) and group I got II prize (Mobile other than CDMA & GSM)

“Mock interview Session” by faculty members of the department A mock interview session was conducted by all the faculty members of the department of Management on

October 25, 2012. In the session, a panel of four faculty members Dr. M.R.P Singh, Dr. Sanjay Kr. Garg, Dr. Tulsee Giri Goswami& Ms. Richa Mathur took the interview of the students of MBA Semester III on the subject matter related General Management as well as various functional areas of Management. Twelve students participated in the interview process. All the faculty members also gave the interview tips at the end of the session.

Session on “How to read Market intelligence section in Economic times A Two hours session was conducted on how to read “Market intelligence section in Economic Times

Newspaper” on October 26, 2012. He explained about reading the stock quotes and various terminologies about the stock market like Index, Circuit Filter, Mutual funds, FII, Market Capitalization, P/E ratio etc. and how to make interpretations from that information. Around 40 students of MBA Semester I & Se-mester III participated in the session.

Finance Club “ Mudra Manthan” A Finance Club named “ Mudraa Manthan‟ has been formed by the department of Management to spread

awareness about the Share & Financial market and inculcate investing habits among the students & staff members of Central University of Rajasthan.

Preamble

The Central University of Rajasthan has been established by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 25 of 2009). The Gazette of

India, No. 27, published on 20th March, 2009 as a new Central University, and is fully funded by the Government of

India to provide flexible, innovative academic and research programmes and support structures that are responsive to a

broad range of learners and regional needs. The world is witnessing a high-tech revolution with changes in science,

technology, commerce and industry. The world now believes that knowledge is everything. With opening up of world

economy by way of globalization, liberalization and privatization processes, all the business sectors are witnessing a

tremendous growth. The whole economy is undergoing a tremendous transformation with many new sunrise sectors

like financial services, consultancies etc coming up. The service sector is outstripping the manufacturing sector in

growth. A career in these sectors involves challenging work, high growth opportunities, lucrative pay packets and a

professionally challenging work environment. The job market is undergoing a metamorphosis. This is creating a huge

demand for careers in Commerce and Business. This has led to huge change in the way we teach and deliver business

studies courses.

Commensurate with the times and taking into account the challenges the age of globalization and knowledge-societies

pose, CUR is aware of the urgent need to move towards semester-wise Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and Con-

tinuous Assessment and Grading Pattern (CAGP). Agencies like UGC and NAAC have been advocating CBCS and

CAGP. A number of universities and institutes of higher learning in the country have already adopted CBCS and CAGP.

Under the banner of School of Management and Commerce a two year (four semesters) full-time M. Com. Programme

is going to start from the academic session 2012-13.

The corporate world is dynamic and the changes are so severe that a series of new concepts and techniques are

fast coming into being and the earlier and traditional ones are becoming obsolete. This situation has given rise to

the need for restructuring the curricula of Commerce education at all levels so as to make it meaningful and com-

patible with the changing business scenario and introduce the concepts and techniques among the commerce

teachers to further channelize and streamline their contribution. By introducing more and more professional

skills, we need output of graduates and researchers to be of the best quality in the world.

Objective The proposed M. Com. programme has a distinct objective to equip the students with knowledge, skills and atti-

tude to become more suitable for the present and emerging job market. The courses are intended to impart inten-

sive knowledge and training in the subject and help the students to acquire wider perspectives both for research

and for professional application. The syllabus has been designed student-centered where there is flexibility for

the students to have a greater choice of courses appropriate to their interests, needs, sustainability and long term

goals. The courses are offered with Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) thus facilitating the students to have 24

Courses of 96 Credits spread over 4 semesters for mastering the subject for the award of Master degree in Com-

merce by acquiring the required depth and at the same time to select elective courses of his/her choice and based

on his/her aptitude from four elective group of courses. The syllabus also includes two open courses (each carry-

ing 4 Credits) of inter disciplinary nature out of which each shall be offered in 2nd and 3rd semester in order to

suit the needs and interest of the students. To be precise, the objectives of M. Com. programme are as under:-

Best possible infrastructural facilities for research workers in the fields of organic, inorganic and physical

chemistry with emphasis on Green Chemistry and interdisciplinary fields have been created.

An Indo-Korean Workshop on “Nanomaterials& Health Care” was held at CURaj on 14th December, 2012 by

the department of chemistry. The Korean delegation was led by Prof. Haiwon Lee, Hanyang University;

other members of the delegation were Prof. JinhoAhn (Hanyang University), Prof. Kang (Sogang Universi-

ty), Prof. Ahn (Korea University), Prof. Choi, C-J (KIMS), Prof. Choi, J (KIST).Some of the highlights of

the workshop were the synthesis of nanomaterials and their applications in sensing, medicine and energy

harvesting.

It is also proposed to hold a Science workshop on the Science Day, 28th February, 2012.The intension of the

workshop is to bring Scientific awareness among the undergraduate students from the near-by colleges

for the benefit of society.

Faculty The department has highly qualified and motivated faculty with research experiences within India and abroad. Their

teaching and research interests encompass various fields of Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. Their speciali-

zations include natural product synthesis, heterocyclic chemistry including MCRs, catalysis, carbohydrate chemistry,

Preamble

Among the many branches in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry may be regarded as a pillar of Phar-

macy. However, unlike other basic sciences, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry is an interdependent science

that is a combination of applied medicine and basic sciences. Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry provides phar-

macy students with a comprehensive understanding of the mechanism of drug action, the relationship between the

structure of drugs and the differences in activity which is referred to as QSAR, the relationship between physicochemi-

cal properties of drugs and its impact on activity, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity

(ADMET). An understanding of the chemical basis of drug action gives pharmacy students the ability to answer ra-

tionally the “why” and “how” of drug action, and to modulate the activity by fine tuning various attributes of the drugs.

This knowledge puts the pharmacist in a unique position among the various health care professionals. By imparting an

exclusive knowledge base, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry plays a vital role in providing critical thinking and

evidence-based problem-solving skills to pharmacy students, enabling them to make optimal decisions in this area of

pharmacy.

Objectives The objectives of the course will be to provide students will an up-to-date knowledge in receptor theories, enzyme ki-

netics, principles of drug action, modern methods of drug design, metabolism and pharmacokinetics and advanced or-

ganic chemistry. The skill sets imparted during this course will make students competent in a research setting both in

the corporate world and in an academic environment. We believe that this course will create a strong foundational

knowledge of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry and will allow students to imbibe lifelong learning skills.

Salient Features The intended research programs have a bearing on the drug and prodrug synthesis based on green and sus-

tainable technologies using biocatalytic and biotechnological methods.

The department has a well qualified faculty from the fields such as peptide chemistry, computer aided drug

Summer training programmes and visits to the top pharmaceutical research/industrial centres are planned

after the second semester examination to expose the students to the latest developments in the field of

Departmental Facilities To begin with the School of Chemical sciences and Pharmacy has well equipped laboratories for practical classes

Preamble/Objective

The M.Sc. Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) is designed to provide a specialized program to train future gener-

ations of students in both theoretical and practical aspects of AI. This will be a rigorous study program at postgraduate

Nature & Scope

Actuarial Science is the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in the insurance and

finance industries. In view of the uncertainties involved, probability theory, statistics and economic theories provide

the foundation for developing and analyzing actuarial models. Using an appropriate stochastic model, simulation and

high speed computing, it has become possible to construct various tables and objectively determine the premiums of

different types of insurance contracts, even in the presence of uncertainties associated with the prevailing risk factors.

In such a decision making process, statistical techniques play a central role. A strong statistical background provides a

good foundation for the integrated aspects of finance, economics, risk management and insurance.

A post graduate statistics course oriented towards Actuarial Statistics is not available in many educational institutes

in India. Expertise in Actuarial Statistics is globally appreciated and provides immense opportunities for employment

in insurance and financial sectors. Graduates in Statistics with adequate background in actuarial science are in great

demand globally.

The M.Sc./M.A. Statistics course of the Central University of Rajasthan is expected to provide requisite knowledge of

probability, statistics and actuarial science thus helping one to acquire analytical skills to pursue a profession in insur-

ance / financial sector.

Preamble/Objective

The M. Sc. Tech. mathematics is a post-graduate course of three years duration. It is equivalent to M. Sc. (Maths) and

M. Sc.(Computer Science), for the appointment of teacher‟s posts in colleges and universities, as its syllabus comprises

of core subjects both from M. Sc. Maths and M. Sc. Computer Science. The proposed syllabus is designed in such a

manner that if a student having B. Sc with Mathematics wants to opt out after four Semesters, he will be awarded M.

Sc. Mathematics degree, and if completes six semesters, he is awarded M. Sc. Tech. Mathematics degree. The objectives

of the courses are:

To prepare trained manpower needed for R & D of ICT and related industries and research organizations.

To prepare higher mathematics teachers for applied mathematics especially for I.T. and Engineering.

To sensitize and train young students as future researchers in the frontier areas of applied mathematics.

The approach is both multi disciplinary and inter disciplinary.

Nature & Scope The programme is very flexible giving scope for audit courses and also open electives where in the student can take

courses from other departments and complete the requisite number of credits. Also there is scope for a student to opt

out of the programme after completing 4 semesters with M. Sc. Mathematics Degree or complete six semester whereby

getting M. Sc. Tech. Mathematics degree.

Preamble/Objective

This Masters programme aims to train Architects – to understand issues associated with Sustainable Architecture, in-

cluding environmental concerns, assessment methods, energy consumption, construction materials, health, economic

and social concerns, and management of buildings and other construction projects in a life-cycle perspective. This pro-

gramme encompasses residential, commercial and public architecture and planning of sites and layouts as well as their

effect on the urban and rural built environment.

The course is highly relevant for Architects who want to pursue a professional career in Architectural and Planning

practice, or in construction industry, or in the field of rural and urban development or academics and multidisciplinary

research or at policy making levels in government and other organizations.

This is a two year full time programme divided into four consecutive semesters of 18 weeks each including 2 weeks for

exams. The first three semesters will be blend of theory and project courses and the fourth semester will be equip the

participants with managerial knowledge skills for managing sustainable projects as they prepare a Masters design the-

sis. Additional courses can be taken during summer / winter breaks.

Preamble

The Department of Biotechnology came into being under the School of Life Sciences at Central University of Rajasthan

in July 2011. The Masters program in Biotechnology was started as the department‟s flagship program with immediate

effect, with the first batch of 20 students selected through an all India entrance test.

The department was shifted to the permanent campus of CURAJ at Bandarsindri, NH-8, Rajasthan, in February, 2012.

The M.Sc. Lab was re-established at the new campus building and was inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor,

Dr. M. M. Salunkhe, on 5th March, 2012.

The department has also initiated Ph.D. program recently. Admission to the program involved a National Level En-

trance Test (CUCET for Ph.D. admission) followed by a rigorous 2-stage interview involving an external expert. Thus,

with highly qualified and enthusiastic young faculty already on board, the department aims to become one of the shin-

ing beacons of the University in the near future.

The postgraduate course covers several areas with the following objectives in mind:

Survey of core concepts in biochemical, genetic, molecular and cellular basis of biological phenomena and their ap-

plications in biotechnology.

To employ mathematical, physical, chemical and computational (bioinformatics) approaches in biotechnology.

To provide strong hands – on – laboratory training.

To develop human resource for biotechnology research, industry and governance.

Nature & Scope The science of Biotechnology has tremendous potential for application in agriculture and medicine. The link be-

tween basic & applied research as well as new discoveries & innovations can find direct applications in agricul-

ture and human health. The breakthroughs in modern biotechnology mainly include our ability to produce useful

organisms through genetic engineering and cell fusion techniques and improve bioprocess technology to purify

novel molecules generated by such processes. It also involves targeting drugs, development of delivery systems

and vaccines. Considering this background, the program is designed in such a way so as to focus on diverse areas

from Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Genetics with significant laboratory experiments to enable the

students to have research oriented experience.

Guest/Invited Lectures Prof. A. K. Gupta, Madurai Kamaraj University, was invited to deliver a series of lectures as part of the Devel-

opmental & Stem Cell Biology and Plant Biotechnology courses for the students of the III Semester.

Professor D. Deobagkar, Ex Vice Chancellor Goa University, and Dr. Deepti Deobagkar, Professor, Centre of

advanced studies (Zoology Department), Director Bioinformatics Centre, University of Pune, delivered lec-

tures , entitled “Environmental modulation of the vector competence in Dengue disease transmission” and

“Epigenetics: A novel method to access genome wide methylome using microarrays” respectively in Oct, 2012.

Conferences/Workshops The department organized National Conference on OMICS in Biotechnology (NCOB-2012) during February 22-

23, 2012. The organising committee consisted Dr. Mousumi Debnath, (Convener), Dr. Tarun K. Bhatt (Organizing

ed the department in Oct 2012 to forge a deep and long lasting relationship with CURAJ. An initial pact has been

inked in the form of an AMU to develop inter-University exchange program for students as well as faculty.

Department of Biochemistry

Objective

The scientific discipline of „Biochemistry‟ is at the heart of all modern day biological sciences. It also constitutes an im-

portant section of study of chemical science at various levels of graduate and post-graduate education. Study of bio-

chemistry offers tremendous potential in basic as well as industrial sciences. Department of Biochemistry, Central Uni-

versity of Rajasthan came into existence in July 2012 under the School of Life Sciences. The department is currently

running in close association of other departments within School of Life Sciences i.e. Department of Biotechnology &

Department of Microbiology.

The programme is based on integrated multidisciplinary approach such that the students are kept abreast of new-

est advances in the field of biochemistry as well as other relevant subjects.

Impart skills for helping students to develop into independent teachers/ researchers.

To identify slow and fast learner student and provide additional guidance to weak student through tutorial classes.

Preamble

To ignite young minds, from different backgrounds, to understand the world of biochemical reactions through ap-

plication based learning. This learning would develop their reasoning power and train them for future career in re-

search as well qualify highly competitive national level examination like CSIR-UGC NET, ICMR and GATE.

Department is also offering doctoral studies related to various aspects of Biochemistry including proteomics.

To provide high quality teaching to the students through traditional classroom teaching as well as varied exposure

to audio-visual aids and hands on training on various aspects of biochemistry and allied biological subjects.

More emphasis is given on understanding the subject rather than rote learning.

The students are also encouraged to broaden their potential by opting for extra audit courses offered by other

departments.

Nature & Scope The department is currently offering Masters level (M.Sc.-Biochemistry) and Doctorate level (PhD- Biochem-

istry) courses.

The master level course focuses on providing comprehensive training to the students in Biochemistry and

allied disciplines. The department of Biochemistry is following a multidisciplinary approach towards teach-

ing and makes use of traditional as well as audio-visual assisted class-room teaching and practical training.

The course curriculum is designed to train our students in basic Biochemistry as well as in allied biological

subjects including Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Recombinant DNA technology, Virology,

Genetics and Cell Biology etc. The curriculum also provides essential training on supportive courses of Bio-

statistics, Physics, and Mathematics etc.

The Ph.D. program envisions providing detailed research specialization in applied areas of Biochemistry e.g.

Proteomics, Conformational studies of Biomolecules, Microbial Drug Resistance, In-silico study of biomole-

cules ligand interaction, etc. The course curriculum for doctoral studies is designed to meet the guidelines of

the University Grant Commission e.g. candidates are selected the basis of thorough selection procedure

which consists of entrance exam and two rounds of personal interviews. The selected candidates are required

to successfully complete a „Pre-Ph.D. course-work‟.

The courses offered by department of Biochemistry, C.U. Rajasthan are designed to be in accordance with the

requirement of the academic and industrial job market.

quality education in microbiology offers tremendous employability in academia as well as industrial set- up. Depart-

ment of Microbiology, Central University of Rajasthan came into existence in July 2012 under the School of Life Scienc-

Physics interacts with society in many important ways. Within the university, the department teaches postgraduate

impart a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles of the several branches of physics, as mathematically and

experimentally demonstrated; and also to execute with their own hands various experiments to have hands-on experi-

ence with the tools and methods of physics, not simply with the concepts.

In addition Ph.D. degree programmes are introduced from this semester and B.Sc. degree programmes are to be intro-

duced from next semester by the Department.

Experienced faculty of the Department is devoted to research in their respective areas of specialization. Research and

teaching are given equal importance by the faculty. Extra care is taken to pay individual attention to the students in

their laboratory work and tutorial sessions. Project work and problem sessions are encouraged to develop innovative

and analytical approach to physics learning.

The M.Sc. Physics is a post graduate Four Semester Course spanning over two years duration.

A candidate who has secured more than 50% or CGPA of 3.0 in the UGC Seven Point scale [ 45% or CGPA 2.5 in the

UGC Seven Point Scale for SC/ST] or equivalent in the Bachelor degree in Science with Physics as Major Subject.

The admission to this program is based on the results of an entrance examination CUCET (to be conducted joint-

ly by Central Universities) at various centers in India. 30% weightage will be given for the performances of the

students at Bachelor level and 70% weightage is for the performance at the entrance examination. The program

aims to train future generations of physicists with specialization in one of the frontier areas of research, that is,

either in Material Science or Condensed Matter Physics.

The regular laboratory meetings give students hands-on experience with the physical concepts being discussed

in lecture, and introduce the principal methods of scientific investigation. The department has three well-

maintained laboratories including an electronics lab in which the students can carry out their project work, play

around with the concepts of electronics/physics and exhibit their creative skills which have been upgraded re-

cently with new equipments. There is a parallel computing HPC Laboratory to aid the learning process and meet

the practical needs of the students.

Summer Internship In order to retain the focus of the students on the academic programmes and to compliment it with relevant prac-

tical work experience during the two-month long summer break, the department introduced a scheme of summer

internship to all its students. The main objective is to provide an edge to the students to ensure better placement

opportunities for themselves on completion of their degrees.

This will also give a feel for the work environment in organizations of the type they would possibly be associated

in their professional careers. The department, in association with the facilitating organization, monitors the

work and regularity of the internees. Department also requires feedback report from the students after comple-

tion of their internship to increase the effectiveness of the scheme.

Career Counseling Cell

The Career Counseling Cell of the University not only provides placement assistance to the students in relevant

organization but it also helps the students of the University in their career planning, preparation for selection

tests, summer placement, internship and final placements. The Career Counseling Cell is working on liaisoning

with the senior executives of reputed organizations for the development of the effective communication links

with many prominent industrial and professional organizations. The Career Counseling Cell is making all out

effort to match student's career aspirations with the requirements of these organizations. Keeping in view the

demand and preference of the various industries, the Cell is also looking for the development of the students. In

this direction , various activities like Aptitude test, Group Discussion, Guest Lectures from corporate personali-

ties are organized from time to time by the placement cell for the students of the University. The Career Counsel-

ing Cell is headed by Prof. H.J.Vaman, Professor , Department of Statistics in the University.

Mega Placement Fair was organized at the Bandar Sindri Campus by the University during 12-14 th April, 2012.

Visits were made to various Companies in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, New Delhi, Noida , Gurgaon and Bangalore

to invite them for recruitment of students in the placement fair.

Students from various colleges and Universities all over the Rajasthan / Outside Rajasthan were invited for par-

ticipation in the placement fair. Apart from students of the University, 698 passing out / passed students were

registered from Outside Colleges & University

Career Counseling Cell of the University organized a two day workshop on Resume writing in the Campus on

3rd& 4th November 2012. The workshop was organized in the newly designed Seminar Hall in the Academic

Block – II. The Workshop was conducted by renowned Human Resource Trainer & Academician Dr. Veena Aro-

ra & Mr. Rajan Arora of 3T Consultants of Jaipur. The workshop was started with the introductory remarks by

Prof. H.J.Vaman, Convener of Career Counseling Cell of the University. Dr. Veena Arora has been associated

with many leading organizations like Amity University, Shree Cement, Indian Institute of planning & Manage-

ment, Hotel Clarks Amer & has been consultant to various multinational Companies. The students were divided

in to four groups. On the first day Dr. Arora told the students about the importance & different formats of re-

sume. She also explained about different techniques which can be used to make the resume impressive & effec-

tive. She told about do and don‟t which should be kept in mind while preparing the resume. She also conducted

various activities to make students understand how they can make additions in to their resume. The students

were given the assignment to make their resume and present on the second day of the workshop. On first day 112

students from different department attended the workshop.

On the 2nd day, the students presented their resume in front of the experts and inputs were given to improve

their resume. In the last, Dr. Sanjay Garg , assistant professor, department of Management thanked the experts

& participants to make the workshop successful. On second day 54 students of the University attended the

workshop.

As per the guidelines of UGC and the Supreme Court an Anti Sexual Harassment Cell has been established by

the Central University of Rajasthan to provide a healthy and congenial atmosphere to the staff and students of

the University.

Other Initiatives

Establishment of Anti Sexual Harassment Cell & Anti Ragging Cell

Aims:

The overall aim of National Service Scheme as envisaged earlier, is to give an extension dimension to the higher

education system and orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in educational in-

stitution. The educated youth who are expected to take the reins of administration in future are found to be una-

ware of the problems of the village/slum community and in certain cases are indifferent towards their needs and

problems.

Therefore it is necessary to arouse the social conscience of the students, and to provide them an opportunity to

work with the people in the villages and slums. It is felt that their interaction with the common villagers and

slum dwellers will expose them to the realities of life and bring about a change in their social perception.

The Motto:

The motto or watchword of the National Service Scheme is :„NOT ME BUT YOU‟. This reflects the essence of

democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person‟s point of view

and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ulti-

mately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole. Therefore, it should be the aim of the NSS to demon-

strate this motto in its day-to-day programme.

Classification of NSS Programme:

NSS activities have been divided in two major groups. These are regular NSS activitiesand special camping pro-

gramme.

(a) Regular NSS Activity: Under this, students undertake various programmes in the adopted villages, college /

school campuses and urban slums during weekends or after college hours;

(b) Special Camping Programme: Under this, camps of 10 days duration are organised in adopted villages or ur-

ban slums during vacations with some specific projects by involving local communities. 50% NSS volunteers are

expected to participate in these camps.

Incentive (s) to the students:

The NSS volunteers may get appropriate weightage if he/she completes 2 years in NSS and gets the certificate signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Universities may give preference to such NSS volunteers in matters of admission, promotion and other privi-leges as decided by them.

NSS volunteers should be honored at university level for their excellent and outstanding work in NSS. The universities may prepare guidelines for such incentives.

The states may also institute state level/district level awards for outstanding NSS volunteers. NSS volunteers may be nominated for Indira Gandhi Awards at National Level.

NSS Activities:

The central University of Rajasthan initiated NSS as an extra curriculum activity for the students. During the first phase of this program we have done tree plantation at boys hostel located temporarily at BSNL quarters, Kishangarh, Ajmer Campus Cleaning : One day camp was organized for campus cleaning at Bandar Sindari campus of CURAJ

under the activity of NSS on 20th September 2011. Around 150 students participated in the camp. The task was assigned to the students to clean the sports ground of boys hostel Badminton and volley ball area.

Blood Donation Camp: Central University of Rajasthan organized a blood donation camp under the two days camp of NSS along with the medical help and association of Jawaharlal Lal Nehru Medical college and Hospi-tal Ajmer. The camp was organized on 13th and 14th October 2011 at Kishangarh and Bandar Sindari campus of CURAJ respectively. Around 150 students including teaching and non –teaching staff donated the blood and more than 300 were registered an examined by the team of doctors for donation.

NSS cell celebrated Youth Week in the university campus from January 16th to 18th, 2013. Following activities are planned to be organized under the event:
