Introduction:
Sri Balaji Society’s BALAJI COLLEGE OF ARTS AND COMMERCE is located at Dange
Chowk, Tathawade. It is one of the reputed colleges present in the Pimpri-
Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area. It caters the students of arts and commerce
streams. Balaji Law College is also present in the same premises. The college is
connected to Aundh-Ravet road. The most important feature of the college is
presence of exquisite campus. The required facilities are available to the students.
Playground, open theatre are some of the unique facilities. The college campus is so
beautiful due to the presence of trees.
Objectives: The purpose of the present green audit is identification, naming,
numbering, and description of the plants. The main objectives is to document the
plant diversity of the college.
The number of plants present in the campus are more than one thousand.
Among the huge no. of plants 886 plants are with a tag of number. 300 plants are
present around the playground. (Lower/sub section of the campus) The no. of plants
present around the college building are 586.
The plants shows diversified habit. The majority of the plants are trees and
shrubs. Few climbers are also present in the campus. On and around the playground
herbs are present. Among 886 plants, majority of the plants are indigenous. They are
eco-friendly. The exotic plants are few in number. The present plants are flowering,
botanically called angiosperms. Especially palms in the campus add beauty to the
surrounding. Palms reflect the sunlight and keep the climate cool.
These plants are ecologically important. Birds, butterflies are also found in
the campus. They are also economically important. They are used as food, fodder,
fiber etc. Some trees are shade giving. Majority of the plants are ornamental.
Shankeshwar/peacock flower plant, Tabebuia, Sonsavar etc are ornamental plants.
They are medicinally important. The fruits of Jamun are useful for diabetic persons.
There are many custard apple trees. Some plants are very common for e.g. Ficus sp.
Nandvriksh/Nandruk, Bitterneem, Ashoka etc. Some plants are of rare category e.g.
Callocarpus elegans, Elaeocarpus angustifolia etc
Recommendation/Suggestion We hereby recommend that plants shall be numbered with botanical name. It will
facilitate the census as well testify the plant diversity in the campus.
