The name TuF-GRiP says it all. TuF-GRiP fittings are securely attached to the wire rope by “clamping forces” that grip the rope and allow the tensile load to be transferred into the fitting. That in turn allows the load to be transferred to the point of attachment on your machine or equipment. The result: an effective transfer of tensile forces from the rope through the fitting and into the point of attachment. We can design the fitting to accommodate an almost infinite number of variations, ranging from simple and flat (button ferrules, for example) to curved (such as pin eyes) to more complex shapes (internally threaded designs, among others). Which thread sizes are compatible with individual rope diameters? These charts offer a general guideline. We recommend use of heavy hex and jam nuts to ensure sufficient thread engagement lengths. This would require minimum thread lengths to be approximately 1 1/2 to 2 times the nominal thread diameter. The comparisons in these charts are based on a design factor of 5 using XIP IWRC wire rope minimum breaking force for 6 x 19 and 6 x 36 classification ropes, aircraft cables and carbon steel fittings. For additional rope specifications and options, see pages 16-17.

When you want to maximize the length adjustment of your assembly at the point where a wire rope is attached, the TuF-GRiP sW-701 Threaded sleeve is ideal. The sleeve is made to meet your requirements. The standard sleeve material is carbon steel, but stainless steels and higher strength steels are also available on request. We furnish the sleeves without wrench flats unless specified on the order. Please indicate dimensions across the flats, the number of sides, and the location on the fitting. Please specify the Ls, Lt and D. To determine the thread length (Lt), use the minimum dimensions needed. This allows us to use existing quali-fied designs. The standard thread used is Right hand national Coarse Class 2A, but other threads are available on request.

When your dimensions for thread length exceed Lt of the sW-701, the TuF-GRiP sW-720 Threaded stud is your answer. Or for custom assemblies where the nominal thread diameter is less than D of sW-702, the sW-720 Threaded stud is also ideal. The standard stud material is carbon steel, but you may choose stainless steel if

Excellent as drum attachment devices, our TuF-GRiP Button Ferrules develop the minimum breaking force of wire rope. You can apply them at any position along an assembly to serve many functions – as stops or pullers, for example. The standard button material is carbon steel, but can be ordered as stainless steel if desired. Measure the length using maximum dimensions (from outside end of the ferrule).

Most wire ropes – both working and standing ropes – fall into two basic classifications, the 6 x 19 and the 6 x 36. Although the physical characteristics of these two vary, all have the same weight per foot and the same minimum breaking force, size for size. TUF-GRIP assemblies give you choices to fit your specifications.

T H E 6 x 1 9 C L A S S H A S G R E A T E R A B R A S I O N R E S I S T A N C E .

The 6 x 19 classification of wire ropes includes most six strand ropes with 16 through 26 wires per strand. These ropes offer you resistance to abrasion (or metal loss) because they have larger wires in the rope strands to reduce the effects of surface wear. But, because of a necessary design tradeoff, they’re less bendable than 6 x 36 class wire ropes, so their fatigue resistance is reduced.

T H E 6 x 3 6 C L A S S H A S G R E A T E R F A T I G U E R E S I S T A N C E .

The 6 x 36 classification includes most six strand ropes with 27 to 49 wires per strand. These ropes have more wires per strand than 6 x 19 ropes for increased resistance against bending fatigue. But because of the design tradeoff, they offer less abrasion resistance because they use smaller wires on the outer layer. They’re also more susceptible to crushing.

These ropes are standard for TUF-GRIP assemblies for smaller sizes such as control cable applications. Choose from two materials: stainless steel or galvanized carbon steel wire rope. S tandard utility cable and fittings are suitable for most applications. WRCA is certified to manufacture wire rope to MIL-DTL-83420. And, we offer standard end fittings to let you use aircraft cable as small as 1/16 inch in diameter. I f you need one even smaller than that, please call us.

C H O O S E Y O U R R O P E S C A R E F U L LY .

No single wire rope has it all, so you need to choose your rope like you would any other machine. Very carefully. Decide what is more important to your application – abrasion resistance or fatigue resistance – then choose the appropriate rope. See charts for minimum breaking force and weight per foot. Notice all ropes have a steel core – the only one recommended for TUF-GRIP assemblies. All TUF-GRIP assemblies use a pre-formed rope construction because of its ability to maintain its integrity when inserted into the fittings before swaging occurs.

P R E S T R E T C H I N G M I N I M I Z E S C O N S T R U C T I O N A L S T R E T C H .

While every assembly is manufactured to meet the specified length, some swaged assembly applications require that constructional stretch of the rope be reduced. Our in-plant prestretchingservice is a process that can be used to remove most of the constructional stretch. Be sure to request prestretching of the rope if constructional stretch is a concern. When required, proof testing of assemblies can be performed. This can either be done to your requirements or to the requirements of standards or specifications. A “Certification of Proof Test” is available on request.
