Configit A/S Acquires 3Dfacto A/S

10 July 2014

Configit A/S today announced its acquisition of 100% of the shares of 3Dfacto A/S from private

shareholders. Configit, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark with offices in the UK, USA, Germany,

India and China, is a fast-growing, independent software vendor that offers third generation

configuration solutions to companies with product configuration needs.

Configit was founded in 2000 as a direct result of groundbreaking academic research by Professor

Henrik Reif Andersen and Dr. Henrik Hulgaard, based on the patented technology, Virtual Tabulation.

This technology has redefined what is possible with configuration in terms of complexity and speed and

supports sales of complex products in the established market for Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ)

software and the emerging market for Configuration Lifecycle Management (CLM) solutions. When

used for CLM, the software supports the development of complex configurable products from cradle to

grave, i.e., from the early concept and design phases throughout the full product lifecycle from

manufacturing to sales, delivery, maintenance and decommissioning. The software is, for instance, used

in the car industry at Jaguar Land Rover and in the industrial machinery business at ABB.

3Dfacto A/S develops CPQ software for technically advanced products with 2D-3D drawings,

visualizations and solution configurations and will be available through Configit’s growing portfolio.

The addition of 3Dfacto’s products, employees and customers solidifies Configit as one of the largest

Dassault Systèmes Acquires SIMPACK

11 July 2014

Dassault Systèmes today announced the acquisition of SIMPACK, the technology leader in multi-body

simulation technologies and solutions. With the acquisition of SIMPACK, based near Munich,

Germany, Dassault Systèmes is expanding its SIMULIA realistic multiphysics simulation technology

portfolio to include multi-body mechatronic systems, from virtual concept validation to the real-time

experience. SIMPACK has more than 130 customers in the energy, automotive, and rail industries,

including Alstom, Bombardier, BMW, Daimler, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, MAN, and Vestas. The

amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

“Today’s acquisition of SIMPACK, part of a larger, ongoing strategy to continually expand

the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, enables a complete virtual and real product experience, like never

before” said Bernard Charlès, President and CEO, Dassault Systèmes. “Consumers expect automobiles,

aircraft, and nearly all products to continually get smarter, safer, faster, quieter, and more efficient. This

means companies need to do more than engineer everything coming together – such as controls,

movement, bending, and noise. They need to experience their product as they create it.”

SIMPACK has demonstrated strong technology leadership, in particular through complex models, non-

linear effects such as friction and flexible structures, efficient numerical algorithms, and real-time

capabilities. SIMPACK is also synonymous with high quality, through its robust solutions in a wide

range of applications and the deep simulation knowledge of their employees.

“SIMPACK is gaining market share today and it will be strengthened by its technological, commercial

and operational synergies with Dassault Systèmes. SIMPACK has always provided product designers

and consumers with a physical experience of a new product long before it comes into production. We

have similar technology-driven cultures and a shared long-term commitment to scientific excellence,”

said Alex Eichberger, Founder and CEO, SIMPACK. “We will join forces and technologies to provide

superior virtual and physical experiences, expanding industry solution experiences for transportation &

mobility, aerospace & defense, and other industries.”

Mentor Graphics Expands Automotive Portfolio, Acquires XS Embedded to Reduce Time to Start of

Production (SOP)

8 July 2014

Mentor Graphics Corporation announced the acquisition of XS Embedded GmbH (XSe), a technology

leader in the creation of automotive system architectures and hardware reference platforms. XSe has

over ten years of direct experience in the automotive electronics design industry across twenty

automotive programs that combine hardware and software expertise. XSe brings a pioneering approach

to accelerate system design and verification by providing automotive-grade hardware and software to

reduce the time to SOP. Mentor is now well positioned to address the cross-functional collaboration

needs required to address the trends towards integration of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

(ADAS), Driver Information and Infotainment domains.

Modern automotive systems push the technology envelope with feature-rich embedded systems that

combine high-quality graphics, domain-specific audio, multi-media, mobile device integration and

connectivity. The design challenges are tremendous with millions of lines of code per vehicle, cross-

domain function consolidation, mixed safety criticality, security, and the use of heterogeneous multi-

core SOCs. These challenges are exacerbated by extraordinary cost pressures and a traditional

development lifecycle for systems that is measured in years while automotive consumer expectations

require the latest in technology to be ever present.

“XS Embedded is recognized for its deep automotive domain expertise and unique IP including the

AXSB automotive-ready reference board and software modules,” stated Glenn Perry, Mentor Graphics

Embedded System Division general manager. “The hardware design and architecture expertise of XS

Embedded combined with Mentor’s extensive automotive technology suite, including Android, Linux®,

AUTOSAR, Security and Hypervisor solutions, provides greater flexibility while also reducing the time

to SOP.”

XSe has pioneered a new approach that provides Tier 1 suppliers with reference platforms that approach

A-sample quality. By taking advantage of this unique automotive-ready reference platform Tier 1

suppliers can not only drastically reduce time to SOP, but also improve architectural optimization, the

partitioning of software and ultimately reduce design costs. XSe achieves this by partnering with key

semiconductor vendors to supply truly automotive-grade hardware, such as XS AXSB based on the

Texas Instruments Jacinto 6 platform, and integrating optimized IP including the XS OPTstack®

software, a flexible software stack designed to be quickly ported and optimized to underlying hardware.

“By combining Mentor’s Android, hypervisor, security, AUTOSAR & Nucleus solutions with XSe

automotive-ready solutions, we are able to address the entire vehicle software infrastructure

requirements of the most sophisticated vehicles in design today,” said Rainer Oder, managing director of

XS Embedded. “The next-generation ADAS systems are a great example of the need for a unified

vehicle software infrastructure and we are proud to be the first to market with an end-to-end solution.”

Nemetschek Advances to become Leading BIM 5D Provider

10 July 2014

Nemetschek AG has further strengthened its position in the international Building Information Modeling

(BIM) market, a market that is expected to grow by 17 percent on average in the years to come.

The software provider has been able to make more intensive headway into the promising BIM 5D

market with two investments. In this market, the dimensions of cost (4D) and time (5D) have been

added to digital 3D planning models to provide complex large-scale projects in particular with

considerable advantages in terms of costs and efficiency. These advantages can amount to up to 25

percent of building costs.

Together with Hasso Plattner Ventures and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), Nemetschek has invested

in the start-up company Sablono GmbH. The innovative company with headquarters in Berlin develops

and distributes software solutions for the digital planning, control and monitoring of construction

projects. With this investment, Nemetschek has extended its expertise in BIM 3D solutions and the cost

planning tool (BIM 4D) to include the crucial 5th BIM dimension of model-based scheduling: Sablono's

portfolio includes "intelligent" BIM scheduling. Critical information concerning changes is made

available to project partners in real time and digitally documented. Planned deadlines can thus be

compared against the latest actual data, and the real progress of a building project can be evaluated in

detail, traced and controlled.

In addition, Nemetschek has acquired a majority interest in BIM specialist hartmann technologies

GmbH, Berlin. hartmann develops and distributes software solutions for building-model-oriented

processes in the construction industry. Nemetschek with the building technology solution NEVARIS

now covers the process from cost planning and AVA (tenders, awarding of contracts, invoicing) all the

way to building construction and controlling. This investment adds the detailed determination of costs

and quantities to the solution portfolio. The ice BIM solutions developed by hartmann can, for example,

use the 3D model to directly derive critical quantity calculations for structural and finishing work. The

integration with NEVARIS ensures an end-to-end process which is transparent throughout all stages of

construction.

"The two investments in young and innovative companies fit perfectly to our strategic goal of advancing

to become the globally leading provider of BIM 5D in the AEC market," says Patrik Heider, CFOO and

Spokesman of the Executive Board of Nemetschek AG. "Nemetschek is the forerunner in shaping this

future market and provides everyone involved in the building lifecycle with innovative and holistic

software solutions that they can use to execute and optimize all processes with regard to design, costs,

time and quality," continues Heider.

Many years of experience coupled with innovative know-how

Nemetschek is opting for young companies for its growth strategy in the BIM 5D sector. This allows the

Nemetschek Group to combine its many years of experience in the BIM market with new innovative

ideas and approaches. With its strong 3D CAD brands such as Graphisoft, Vectorworks and Allplan, the

Nemetschek Group already holds a leading international market position. As a result of the investments,

the dimensions of cost (4D) and time (5D) have now been added to the market-leading 3D software

solutions, and market presence in the promising 5D market has been strengthened. "With this move, as a

provider of BIM 5D, Nemetschek offers an innovative and extensive solution portfolio for the integrated

planning of 3D models, costs and time that is unique in the AEC market," sums up Heider.

Background: Policy encourages the trend towards BIM 5D in Germany now too

Studies show that, in terms of digitalization, the construction industry is still far behind other industries,

e.g. the automotive sector. In some countries, digital construction is required by law for large-scale

projects. Germany is among the countries catching up. The German federal government wants to specify

the BIM digital planning method as the standard for public sector construction. With a synchronized

base of data that everyone involved in the construction project can access, BIM enables efficient cost

planning and scheduling. As a result, it is possible to precisely ascertain risks early on, shorten

construction time and considerably save on construction costs. This political support has arisen in

particular due to public awareness of major cost increases and delays affecting large-scale projects such

as the airport in Berlin and the "Elbphilharmonie" in Hamburg.

Sandvik Coromant and Edgecam Demonstrate Machining Optimisation

7 July 2014

Manufacturers were shown how to get the best from their CNC machines by utilising the latest cutting

tool and software technology, at Sandvik Coromant’s open day.

Engineers from all over the UK learned how to make improvements for delivering cost efficiency and

enhancing quality to their production methods. Organised by Sandvik Coromant UK’s Machine

Investment Manager James Rhys-Davies, the event was attended by manufacturers considering investing

in new machine tools or who have recently purchased them.

“We demonstrated the correct ways of applying modern cutting tools and techniques so manufacturers

can achieve the very best from their machine tools, and showed how to minimise tool changeover time

with the Coromant Capto quick-tool-change system, keeping the green light on for as long as possible.”

Two software packages were also featured – Adveon™ Tool Library, and Edgecam Workflow for CNC

programming. Adveon integrates into Edgecam, enabling tooling and CAM to work together seamlessly

to generate efficient tooling assemblies.

Free with Edgecam Workflow for the remainder of 2014, Adveon is aimed at helping manufacturers

save set-up time while improving productivity and security in their milling operations. Edgecam is the

first CAD/CAM company to integrate Adveon as an official reseller. The library allows the rapid

building of tooling databases and ensures automatic access to 3D CAD models for accurate simulation

and visualisation. The engineer’s input is reduced, improving both consistency and quality of data.

There were also demonstrations of what Sandvik Coromant calls ‘the Modern art of milling.’ A

component comprising features such as an open slot and closed pocket was produced on a Mori Seiki

SV 503 machine tool, with a solid carbide 12mm end mill and 16mm tool, using Edgecam Workflow’s

Waveform Roughing Strategy to maximise material removal rates.

Other demonstrations included metal cutting on a Star sliding head machine, and ‘See the whole

picture,’ featuring drilling, tapping and reaming on a 50 taper Mori Seiki vertical machining centre.

Edgecam’s Strategic Partnership Manager Wesley Tonks says this was the first UK event to highlight

Geometric’s CAMWorks® Infuses a Sense of Urgency with ‘Quicker is better’ at IMTS 2014

11 July 2014

Geometric will preview its latest release of CNC programming automation solution, CAMWorks®

2015, in Booth E-3320, IMTS 2014 in Chicago, Illinois from September 8 - 13, 2014.

In today’s environment, manufacturers need to be able to do more with less - less design time, program

time, setup time and machining time. CAMWorks 2015 focuses on making the entire design to part

cycle shorter.

Quicker Programming Time – CAMWorks 2015 has over a dozen enhancements focused on

shortening the programming time. One example is the color based identification of complex surfaces

making it easier and quicker to define features by avoiding the traditional chains and profiles

methodology. CAMWorks 2015 has bolstered its ability to interpret non-prismatic surfaces on solid

models as machinable entities automatically. This enhanced ability to leverage feature-based machining

for complex requirements in combination with Intelligent Knowledge Base (TechDB™) allows end

users to eliminate the routine elements in CNC programming and focus on their core expertise.

Quicker Setup Time – For a job shop, setup time is critical. With an integrated true G-code simulation,

CAMWorks Virtual Machine, users can make sure that the costly process of dry-runs on the shopfloor

are minimized with one-click verification. The use of G-code for verification is absolutely critical if you

are dealing with sub-programs, macros, sub-spindle transfers, tail-stocks and steady rests.

Quicker Machining Time – On the other hand, for production shops, machining time is the key. Users

need to makes sure that what they are machining is not only correct but most efficient. The ultra-high

performance tool paths from CAMWorks VoluMill™, has enhanced capability to handle more complex

geometries like multi-step irregular islands, that can be very difficult to address with trochoidal tool

paths which a number of other systems try to use to address this critical challenge.

Lectra is pleased to announce that Aokang has adopted Lectra Fashion PLM to streamline the

company’s process and organization.

Founded in 1988, Aokang is a top footwear company in China, with four of their own brands: Aokang,

Kanglong, Redess and Meirie’s. Aokang designs, develops and manufactures products to make high-

quality leather shoes.

The company’s strategy is to capitalize on its strong branding and sales to increase its own distribution

network. Aokang is leveraging its design, manufacturing and R&D capabilities to expand activities

throughout China. The motivation to adopt Lectra Fashion PLM came from the need to optimize

management and organization.

Lectra Fashion PLM will help the company better control workflow and collection planning, supporting

Aokang’s goal to streamline its supply chain and reduce time-to-market. “To face fierce competition, the

rising cost of inventory and discounts at retail, we have to strengthen our merchandise planning

capabilities and streamline the flow of goods to retail. We chose Lectra Fashion PLM to overhaul our

line planning process. From R&D to design, product development, manufacturing and marketing, Lectra

Fashion PLM will allow us to have visibility and control over the supply chain,” says Wang Zhen Quan,

Aokang CEO.

Aokang designs and develops 50% of its products in-house and internally manufactures their entire

range. The company’s goal is to increase its design activities by up to 70% by 2015. “By increasing our

in-house design activities, we are looking to change a core component of our customer value proposition

and a core part of our strategy. Lectra Fashion PLM helps us to achieve our objectives by merging

creative and technical skills,” continues Wang Zhen Quan.

With three manufacturing centers and more than 5,000 stores, Aokang also needs to optimize its

production process. “With a comprehensive solution, from design to production, Lectra Fashion PLM

will allow us to manage the entire collection process favoring early-decision making and bringing down

costs,” says Xu Xu Liang, Aokang Vice-President of Sales.

Lectra’s innovative solution and continuous investment in R&D was also a factor in Aokang’s decision

to partner with Lectra. “Innovation is one of our core values. We have three R&D centers in charge of

internal design and development. We know we have to improve our R&D management, if we want to

stay ahead of competitors and keep our market shares,” resumes Xu Xu Liang.

“Lectra Fashion PLM will help us improve R&D management and better control our processes to bring

high quality products to market,” adds Wen Yuan Yin, Aokang R&D director.

In addition to Lectra Fashion PLM’s strengths, Lectra’s best practices and strong professional services

team also made a difference. “Lectra China will get our merchandisers, designers and developers up and

running so that our team’s skills are fully put to good use. They will learn not only how to use Lectra

Fashion PLM, but how to use it in an optimal way for us, based on international best-in-class ways of

working. This will help us become more competitive as we look to change strategies and grow our

business,” resumes Wang Zhen Quan.

Delcam’s ArtCAM JewelSmith Helps Create Jewellery for the Stars

9 July 2014

Stephen Webster Ltd, founded by one of Britain’s leading designers of luxury jewellery, Stephen

Webster, is internationally renowned for its chic and dramatic glam-rock jewellery, with over 200

points-of-sale worldwide and seven boutiques in London, Beverly Hills, Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev,

Vienna and Marbella. Its pieces have been worn by celebrities such as Madonna, Christina Aguilera,

Kate Moss, Sir Elton John, Rihanna and Kate Beckinsale, to name but a few.

Edward Slater, head of the company’s CAD department, explained how the company created its

jewellery – "Our designers always start with a brief as to the theme and inspiration for a particular

project before they sketch out their designs. Our Jewels Verne or Le dents de la mer collections, for

example, were initially inspired by 2000 leagues below the sea.”

Each collection consists of up to thirty or forty pieces, including earrings, rings, necklaces and larger

statement pieces, such as cuffs. The CAD team is given around four weeks from the time they receive

the signed-off designs to convert all paper drawings into 3D CAD models, taking around a day for each

design. Once they have modelled the jewellery, the designer looks at the each model to make sure that it

is as they envisaged and make any amendments before they import the design into Delcam’s ArtCAM

JewelSmith software, to create the toolpaths for CNC milling.

Mr. Slater initially saw ArtCAM JewelSmith at the IJL exhibition, where he was impressed by how

quickly it could calculate toolpaths. "It cuts the time down drastically,” he claimed. "Half a day was cut

down to a couple of minutes. It is great! When it comes to bangles, ArtCAM has been something of a

revolution for us; we could have never done one before with our previous software and machinery.”

Page 25

He continued, "ArtCAM JewelSmith has a really easy work flow and is extremely simple to use with its

3D Machining Wizard.” ArtCAM JewelSmith comes with a number of options to create the toolpaths to

produce a design efficiently on a CNC machine. The software also gives Mr. Slater’s team the

opportunity to check that the block of wax is the correct size for the jewellery model, as well as to add

the number, size and thickness of the supports to hold the piece in place during machining.

Before the design is sent to the CNC machine, Mr. Slater and his team run a simulation of the toolpaths

cutting the design to make sure they have chosen the correct machining strategies and cutting tool, and,

if necessary, to make any amendments. "It is interesting seeing it simulate the toolpaths because when

you come to see it on the machine there are no surprises,” he commented.

"Whatever we are working on, I know that Delcam are always there to help, giving us advice on the best

tools and approach to mill a design should we need it,” he concluded.

FOB Direct, New Zealand Implements WFX Cloud PLM Software

9 July 2014

FOB Direct has been in fabric and garment manufacturing in China and other countries for over 25

years. The company supplies to department stores, specialty chain stores, brands and wholesalers with

clients across UK, USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Managing production of good quality

garments and fabrics from China and Asia is the key area that the company wanted to strengthen

through implementation of new technology.

FOB Direct used two in-house custom built systems for over a decade. Managing the customization was

slow, expensive and running servers for remote access was a financial drain. FOB Direct felt a Cloud-

based system was required to successfully coordinate the complex business operations across regions

and to save on the IT Infrastructure costs. FOB Direct chose WFX because it did much more than what

their present systems did, at half the cost and was also on the cloud.

"For a complete system that saves on having to run servers and at a totally affordable cost on a per user

basis WFX ticks all the boxes."

"We chose WFX because it is a complete end-to-end product life-cycle solution with a fully integrated

task management by exception. It offers multi-currency costing and a good T&A system. Our staff is

able to view the entire production operation and can easily assign tasks to other users. Management now

has a quick overview of over-due and one-time tasks on their screen. The online training of WFX and

support has been excellent and far better than I have seen from other companies and is very user

friendly."- says Warren Bird, Owner.

US Environmental Protection Agency Designs Test Engine with ANSYS Simulation Technology

9 July 2014

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has selected ANSYS simulation solutions to model

in-cylinder combustion to develop an advanced test engine that will demonstrate fuel-saving and

emissions-reducing technologies. The EPA's test engine will help establish the feasibility of meeting

recently issued fuel standards through improvements to combustion chamber geometries, fuel injection

strategies, fuel composition, valve timing and intake conditions.

While physical prototyping and direct tests on real engine hardware can guide engine design, they are

very costly and time-intensive. By using ANSYS FORTE, the EPA can experiment with engine design

in a virtual setting. As a result, its engineers can quickly and inexpensively make multiple design

iterations. ANSYS acquired FORTE as part of its acquisition of Reaction Design earlier this year.

"The goal of our Clean Automotive Technology program is to research, evaluate and develop advanced

engine and drivetrain technologies that help increase fuel efficiency, reduce regulated criteria emissions

such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. To accomplish this,

we needed to understand how changes in engine design and hardware can impact the engine combustion

processes," said Matthew Spears, Heavy-Duty Onroad and Nonroad Center Director of EPA's Office of

Transportation and Air Quality. "Using ANSYS solutions to generate realistic 3-D simulations of

internal combustion engines, we can gain visibility into critical engine behaviors in a timely, cost-

effective manner and obtain accurate and predictive results to guide the development of our test engine."

The new fuel standards are part of a joint final rule published by the EPA and the Department of

Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety administration (NHTSA). The new standards are

designed to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel economy for model years 2017

through 2025 for light-duty vehicles. Combined with the previous EPA and NHTSA standards, the new

program is projected to result in model year 2025 vehicles emitting one-half of the green gas emissions

from the 2010 model year.

"Designing high performance internal combustion engines that meet regulatory mandates for reduced

emissions is perhaps the top challenge faced by today's automotive manufacturers," said Bernie

Rosenthal, general manager at ANSYS. "We are excited to support the EPA as the agency uses our

computer simulation solutions to create its test engine. Reaction Design's fast, accurate and cost-

effective modeling is critical to developing products that translate reliably to real-world functionality

and lead to new advancements in engine and fuel technology."

In addition to gaining a better understanding of combustion dynamics through CFD modeling, the EPA

intends to use ANSYS' detailed soot modeling capabilities to more accurately predict soot mass and

house. Students can follow along with working files, or use their own residence as a model as they work

alongside Brown's lessons.

Brown starts by demonstrating roofs and roof-types, and moves on to measurements, model organization

and view options, and continues through all the standard features of a house like doors and windows,

kitchen installations, a fireplace, and more, as he teaches SketchUp's basic functionality.

Brown then demonstrates how to use the 3D Warehouse to import furniture models from its store of

assemblies into the design, and how to finish the house by completing its exterior.

With the basic design complete, Brown dedicates several chapters to creating presentations with a

SketchUp design, starting with a look at creating scenes and animations from the model, rendering a

composite in Photoshop, adding lighting and reflections to increase realism, and, finally, creating a

presentation using Layout.

“SketchUp is one of the most popular 3D modeling programs on the market,” Brown says.

"This course will show you how to take sketches, photos, and dimensions, and build a model from the

ground up, using techniques and specific workflows that will give you a good foundation for using

SketchUp in any design application."

Infinite Skills "Mastering Autodesk Inventor - T-Splines" Provides Advanced Training on New

Capabilities for Smooth Surface Modeling

8 July 2014

Software training firm Infinite Skills Inc. last week introduced its "Mastering Autodesk Inventor - T-

Splines," an advanced course teaching experienced Inventor users how to apply cutting edge t-spline

technology to enrich smooth surface models in the popular computer assisted design (CAD) program for

mechanical engineers.

T-Splines were invented in 2003, and were first available as a plug-in for Rhino. Autodesk acquired the

technology in 2011, introducing it first in Autodesk Fusion 360. The technology now comes as a palette

of tools within Inventor, significantly enhancing the program's capabilities for smooth surface modeling.

Infinite Skills' Mastering Autodesk Inventor - T-Splines Tutorial demonstrates how to use these

powerful tools with a highly focused course that includes projects for learning to apply the lessons in

everyday design situations.

Course author Paul Munford began his career as a woodworker building sets for the movie and

television industry. He later moved into the digital design world, eventually becoming an expert in 3D

drafting. He has won the Manufacturing Community Achievement Award from Autodesk and is a

member of the Autodesk Expert Elite.

Munford begins by explaining the basic concepts of subdivision modeling along with the differences

between traditional subdivision modeling and free form modeling with t-splines.

The course then covers all the tools available in Inventor for free form modeling, looking at creating t-

spline primitives, manipulation, applying and removing symmetries, working with faces, and much

more.

Munford then guides students through three projects, starting with a spoon, then increasing complexity

with a mug, and finally a saw. As Munford guides students through all the steps of design, he

demonstrates the use of each tool and the techniques for properly using them in a design situation.

"T-Splines are an exciting new tool inside Inventor," Munford says. "Now Inventor users can take

advantage of all the capabilities of free form modeling right inside the program. T-splines offer a

completely different way of creating free flowing smooth surface models."

Innovyze Releases ICMLive Generation V5.0, Expanding the Possibilities for Real-Time Operational

Forecasting, Modeling and Management of Urban and Rural Catchments

8 July 2014

Innovyze announced the worldwide release of the V5.0 Generation of its ICMLive for timely, accurate

and reliable catchment forecasts. The new release expands the ability of wastewater utilities and river

authorities worldwide to harness the power of real-time data, scenario planning and predictive modeling

to transform the operation and management of their collection systems and anticipate and mitigate the

effects of extreme weather-related events.

A powerful risk assessment and real-time decision making tool, ICMLive enables managers and

operators to consider the influence of a full range of catchment factors in the management of flooding

and reduction of unregulated discharges; the optimization of storage and existing infrastructure for

savings on capital works; and the optimization of pumps to lower energy costs and reduce

CO2emissions. The software is designed to work automatically. Once a system is configured, real-time

data is continually and automatically harvested and quality-checked. This data can be derived from a

number of sources, including observed and forecasted radar rainfall, online water quality measurements,

and ancillary structure and pump operation time series. Simulations are run automatically at a user-

defined frequency. They draw on the full hydrodynamic and technological capabilities of InfoWorks

ICM, including one- and two-dimensional modeling techniques, real-time control, dynamic water quality

analysis, and GPU-enhanced and remote simulation. Simulation frequency can change in response to

user-defined conditions. For example, increased rainfall intensity can trigger a reduction in the interval

between simulations.

Support for additional telemetry data source formats is a key feature of the new release. Data can now be

acquired from Proficy Historian (previously known as iHistorian), developed by GE Intelligent

Platforms (Charlottesville, VA), and ClearSCADA, developed by Schneider Electric (Rueil-Malmaison,

France). These additions, combined with existing support for Oracle, SQL Server, PI and generic ODBC

and CSV data source formats, make ICMLive compatible with the majority of world-leading telemetry

systems.

Version 5.0 also adds a new Historic Mode capability to ICMLive, allowing an operator to recreate and

reassess system scenarios from any previous time. With the additional option of incorporating user edits

to the data, utilities and river authorities can explore a range of different response decisions to identify

system best practice. The capability also serves as an invaluable training tool, enabling new operators to

quickly gain crucial experience without the need to access a live system.

The latest version also benefits from a raft of additional layout, usability and performance

enhancements. These include extended alert definition functionality; the ability to add free text to email

alert content; and a number of improvements to the Operator Client interface, central to the use

of ICMLive within the control room. In addition, ICMLive V5.0 benefits from enhancements to the

underlying InfoWorks ICM V5.0 engine, including 2D mesh enhancements, additional runoff models

and expanded initial condition options.

For a complete listing of new features and capabilities in ICMLive V5.0, visit the “What’s New” section

in the online help.

“ICMLive continues to expand its capabilities as the leading product for real-time operational

forecasting and modeling of urban and rural catchments in the market,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D.,

BCEEM, NAE, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, F.ASCE, President, COO and Chief Technical Officer of

Innovyze. “Wastewater utilities and river authorities of all sizes rely on this mission-critical solution to

proactively manage and operate their collection systems on a day-to-day basis. The features made

available in ICMLive Version 5.0 allow both new and experienced operators to have complete

confidence in the underlying data sources, hydraulic models and forecasts — and ultimately in the

policies and procedures they employ to optimally manage their catchments.”

Nemetschek Vectorworks and Asite Partner to Support Improved Coordination of BIM-Based

Workflows

10 July 2014

Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc., and Asite™, a software developer of cloud-based collaboration tools,

have established a partnership that promotes the automation of workflows throughout a building’s

lifecycle. Users of Vectorworks® Architect software can now connect commercial information with

their building information models, enhance coordination processes and maintain a clear audit trail on

updates to their design through Asite’s Adoddle collaboration platform. In addition, they can selectively

and securely share their designs and individual BIM worksheets with various project collaborators using

their authoring tool of choice through an IFC or COBie output and a cloud-based model for the project.

Asite is a global platform with offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, the

Middle East, Australia and Hong Kong.

“Nemetschek Vectorworks is committed to promoting open BIM workflows, so we’re excited to bring

Asite’s capabilities to our users, giving them the best way to coordinate the processes associated with

design review, construction management and facilities management,” said Jeremy Powell, director of

product marketing at Nemetschek Vectorworks. “Such coordination through Asite’s industry-leading

cloud platform takes geography out of the equation for designers who work with various project

consultants, facilities managers and building operators. It also reinforces our commitment to improving

communication and project coordination among design and BIM collaboration platforms, as well as our

support for IFC interoperability.”

In addition, Adoddle cBIM™, Asite’s collaborative BIM application, is now accessible to Vectorworks

software users, thereby connecting model data with commercial management systems through one

centralized and federated system, also known as a Common Data Environment. Such interoperability not

only reduces errors and the risk of on-site problems with early design review and tracking, but it also

brings visibility and control to shared information models.

“If we want to achieve BIM workflows, we need collaborative yet structured input through collaborative

BIM,” said Nathan Doughty, chief operating officer at Asite. “We are therefore excited to be partnering

with Nemetschek Vectorworks to connect their BIM authoring tool to our collaborative BIM platform

through Open BIM.”

“Using Asite, we are able to share our Vectorworks models [via IFC] and other data with the rest of the

project team,” said Neil Marshall, director at The Design Büro, a medium-sized architectural practice

operating in England. “What I particularly like about the Common Data Environment is the trust you

can place in it as a single source of information. The whole team benefits from a reduction in wasted

communication.” Marshall devotes a lot of time to the rapid adoption of BIM because the UK

government’s BIM mandate stipulates that all centrally procured projects must be designed using BIM

workflows by 2016.

Two projects that also demonstrate an open IFC workflow between Asite and Vectorworks were created

during the Build London Live 2012 and Build Qatar Live 2012 Open BIM design competitions. Asite

and AEC3 organized these events in conjunction with buildingSMART International. The two projects

demonstrated how the use of different BIM-based tools could effectively communicate digital

interoperability and support open, collaborative workflows through the application of the IFC file

format. The international, Vectorworks-based design team for the events received awards for “Best Use

of BIM for Design, Drama and Excitement” and “Best Use of BIM for Technical Assessment.”

Optitex today announced the release of Version 12.3 of its software. This latest version includes several

major developments: a new tool within Optitex PDS that significantly improves the design and

development workflow for garments that use printed fabrics; and a new add-on module to Optitex

CutPlan that enables improved inventory utilization.

The new Printed Fabric Tool , now integrated into Optitex Pattern Design Software (PDS), facilitates the

accurate positioning of style pieces on printed fabric. From within Optitex PDS, designers and pattern

makers can see how the printed image will lie on the garment, make adjustments and immediately view

the effects of every change. With Optitex 3D Suite, users can make changes on the 2D pattern or 3D

model and see the results simultaneously in both. This greatly increases pattern design accuracy for any

garment that utilizes printed fabric, and eliminates the time and costs of creating physical samples. Full

3D visualization also facilitates communication and speeds the approvals process.

Roll Management is a new optional module available for Optitex CutPlan that enables cutting room

managers to integrate roll inventory data into their order cutting process, in order to optimize utilization

of inventory fabric according to user-defined priorities. With this new module, individual rolls of

different widths are automatically assigned to specific markers to meet the requirements of the order

while supporting inventory management goals. Usage data from the Roll Management module can be

exported to a spreadsheet to update the inventory control system.

"The new capabilities we are introducing with Version 12.3 are based on the needs of our strategic

customers, answering real-world challenges that fashion companies on both the design and production

ends of the industry face every day,” said Gil Almog, VP Products and Technology. “Our close

cooperation with major customers is a defining element in our success in providing cutting edge 2D and

3D software solutions that optimize the garment design, development and production processes and take

virtual prototyping to a new level.”

CivilStorm, and StormCAD V8i (SELECTseries 4) products for the analysis and design of wastewater

and stormwater systems. The new releases provide advanced hydraulic and operational capabilities for

an increased depth of information modeling that empowers users to evaluate and compare a wider range

of network considerations. Through the optioneering this facilitates, users are able to assess trade-offs

across disciplines and systems in terms of cost, time, and efficiency. This allows them to make better-

informed decisions that result in better system performance. The SELECTseries 4 releases also help

streamline the information modeling process – saving time and money.

Gregg Herrin, Bentley director, product management, explained, “With the SELECTseries 4 releases of

our SewerGEMS, SewerCAD, CivilStorm, and StormCAD V8i products, users are able to evaluate every

aspect of existing systems and compare possible new designs. Simulations can predict everything from

flooding to hydrogen sulfide formation, and then assess the effect of alternative designs to alleviate

problems.

“We also continued to streamline workflows that improve the initial creation and ongoing management

of models within these products. By delivering functionality that lets users create their models faster,

such as the determination of manhole rim elevations from terrain data, more of the modelers’ time can

be spent on analysis and design instead of data management – and the further addition of capabilities

such as SCADAConnect helps users confidently align their models with real-world conditions.”

Commenting on the new release, Paul Quinlan, principal engineer - network planning, Water Services,

Toowoomba Regional Council, Australia, said, “At Toowoomba Regional Council, we are looking

forward to using SewerGEMS V8i(SELECTseries 4). We expect that the hydrogen sulfide formation

modeling component will assist us in the protection of assets through the determination, management,

and risk reduction for pipe damage and the prevention/reduction in possible odor complaints. The model

building component we also expect will decrease model check and/or build time, and improve accuracy
