Contemporary Photographer Presentation
Overview We are bombarded daily by images, but how many of these images really make an impression on us? The modern photographer is confronted with an increasingly de-sensitized market. No longer is it enough to achieve good exposure and focus with an interesting subject. A great photographer must push new boundaries, learn new techniques, and approach their subject in innovative and novel ways that make the viewer stop and take notice.
Goal
To create a presentation highlighting the life, photography, and accomplishments of a successful contemporary photographer. You should choose someone who is still alive and practicing photography.
Suggested Photographers
Do some research to determine which photographer you'd like to make your presentation on. Please use Google Image Search with the Safe Search option set to "Strict", as nudity can be fairly common in contemporary photography.
There are many branches of contemporary photography, including commercial, fashion, sports, nature, documentary, photojournalism, fine art, architecture, landscapes, and weddings. You are free to choose a photographer from an area that interests you. Many professionals have work in a number of different areas.
I will call you to my desk, one at a time, to make your selection. Your method of presenting will be yours to choose but PowerPoint, Prezi, MindMeister or video are preferable methods.
Below are some suggestions, but I will accept any photographer that you choose, within reason.

Background
You have just been exposed to many inspiring professional photographers Imitation is the highest form of flattery Most artists and photographers learn their craft by attempting to replicate the
work of the masters You will choose a photographer to copycat The first option is to reproduce their photos (same subject, lighting, angle, etc) The second option is to make photos "in the style of" the photographer This assignment is designed to be challenging. You must push yourself and
get out of your comfort zone. Do not expect a good mark if you put in minimal effort.
Process
2 journal entries 1. Describe each image that you plan to photography in detail. Give
specific information about clothing, props, lighting, camera height, desired depth of field, time of day, location, etc.
2. Write about the process of capturing each image. Did it work out as you planned? What difficulties did you encounter? What did you learn? What could you improve upon?
You will hand in 3 images minimum You may hand in more images for bonus marks (if they are excellent images) -
these can be from a 2nd photographer I am looking for you to challenge yourself Pick a photographer that you are inspired by and excited about Processing in Photoshop is an important aspect of this assignment

2) Wow! Factor - 30 marks
I want to be impressed. Have you poured yourself into the assignment? Are the images beautiful and/or powerful? Have you gone beyond the expected? Is this something that you would be proud to show to others? Does this belong in your portfolio?
