Dear Members and Friends of The Metropolitan Museum of Art,

Join us in November—spring in South America—for an intimate look at the cultural and natural

wonders of Argentina. Museum directors and private collectors have extended exclusive invitations,

and these specially arranged visits will be enhanced by an excursion to Patagonia, legendary for its

untouched natural beauty.

Joining us is Jeff L. Rosenheim, Curator in Charge of the Department of Photographs and a

leading figure in the world of photography. Mr. Rosenheim, who led our Galápagos trip in 2011, will

discuss representations of nature in art, enhancing our ability to capture the many stunning photo

opportunities we will encounter.

We begin in Buenos Aires, known as the “Paris of South America” for its European influences.

While staying at the landmark Alvear Palace Hotel, discover the abstract and contemporary works at the

newly opened Museum Art Center Buenos Aires (MACBA) and browse the antiques at San Telmo’s weekly

flea market. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the beautifully restored Colón Theater, view private collections

of Latin American contemporary art, and

enjoy a cocktail reception at the home of a

prominent collector.

Cruise through the Paraná River

Delta to admire colonial architecture before

flying to remote Patagonia for an up-close

look at the spectacular Perito Moreno

glacier. For those wishing to explore one

of Argentina’s best-known wine regions,

an optional postlude in Mendoza is offered.

Please join us for what promises to

be a unique program in this exciting and

sophisticated country.

Sincerely,

Emily K. Rafferty

President
