Exclusive charity event to raise funds for Kerala flood relief

CGI Toronto Women’s Organisation (CGITWO) and Panorama India organised an exclusive charity event on 31 August 2018 to raise funds for the Kerala Flood Relief on 31st August. Ms Ramneek Singh, renowned classical vocalist, enthralled the audience with two mesmerising performances and Mr Rangarajan from Vedanta Cultural Foundation enlightened the audience on the spirit of Yajna. Consul General Mr. Dinesh Bhatia and Mrs. Seema Bhatia addressed the gathering and thanked the benevolent contributors for this cause. The event witnessed participation of over 125 people.

Consul General Mr. Dinesh Bhatia attended a charity event on 30 August 2018 for preparing emergency relief kits including water purifiers for flood affected areas in Kerala. Consul General actively participated in packing these kits and addressed the people present for this noble initiative. He talked about the unprecedented damage that the state of Kerala has witnessed due to heavy rainfall and concluded by thanking the organisers and the participants in this initiative. The event was organized by AKMG Canada and Association of Kerala Medical Graduates partnering with Global Medic and Mississauga Kerala Association.

Fourth BIMSTEC Summit, Kathmandu, Nepal (August 30-31, 2018)

Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi along with Prime Ministers of Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand and the President of Sri Lanka met in Kathmandu on 30-31 August 2018 for the Fourth BIMSTEC Summit. They reiterated their commitment to the eradication poverty in the Bay of Bengal Region by 2030 in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and called for effective implementation of the BIMSTEC Poverty Plan of Action and for gearing up efforts of all sectors to contribute to the over-arching goal of poverty alleviation. They also reiterated their resolve to establish seamless multi-modal transportation linkages and smooth, synchronized and simplified transit facilities through the development, expansion and modernization of highways, railways, waterways, sea routes, airways in the region. The leaders renewed their commitment to an early conclusion of BIMSTEC Free Trade Area (FTA) negotiations, and directed the BIMSTEC Trade and Economic Ministerial Meeting (TEMM) and its subsidiary bodies including the Trade Negotiating Committee (TNC) to expedite finalization of all related Agreements of the BIMSTEC FTA as early as possible. Besides these, the leaders also expressed their views, concerns and commitments on several other areas like Counter Terrorism, Climate Change, Energy, Technology, Environment and Disaster Management, Fisheries, Public Health, People-to-People Contacts, Cultural Cooperation, Tourism, Mountain Economy and Blue Economy.

Onam Celebrations organised by Mississauga Kerala Association

Consul (Press, Information & Community Welfare), Mr. D. P. Singh participated in the Onam celebrations organised by the Mississauga Kerala Association (MKA) on 1 September 2018. He congratulated their efforts and conveyed his best wishes on the auspicious festival of Onam. He also expressed grief for the flood victims in Kerala. Hon. Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development also participated in the event.
