SUCCESSFULL COMPLETION OF HAJJ -2014

Hajj-2014 operations officially ended on 11th November, 2014 with the departure of last Hajj flight from Madinah to Srinagar in India. A total of 367 flights departed in the outgoing phase to carry back the pilgrims that came through Hajj Committee of India. This year, 135,914 pilgrims from India performed Hajj. Of this, 99914 (including 1065 Rubat pilgrims) came through the Hajj Committee of India and the rest 36000 came through the Private Tour Operators. The Hajj operation this year is considered one of the best Hajj ever with no major accident or casualty. The arrangements made by the Consulate General of India, Jeddah (CGI) and the Indian Hajj Missions in Makkah and Madinah were highly appreciated by the local authorities and the pilgrims. More than 65,000 pilgrims were accommodated in the

Azizia town.

The CGI had hired 265 buildings for Hajj 2014 in Makkah and Azizia area and the average capacity of each building was 373 as compared to 277 during Hajj 2013.

A total of 544 Officials (Administrative & Medical) came from India to assist the CGI in managing the Hajj operations in Makkah, Madinah and Jeddah. Out of these, 142 were doctors and 150 were paramedics. 13 dispensaries were set up in Makkah and Azizia and 5 Branch dispensaries were set up in Madinah. One 50-bedded hospital in Makkah, one 30-bedded hospital in Azizia and 10-bedded hospital in Madinah were also operated during the Haj period. Besides, 13 Branch Offices were set up in Makkah and 5 Branch offices were set up in Madinah. The total

number of out-patient cases seen

during the Haj period were 4,48,510.

A total of 151 pilgrims expired during

Hajj 2014. There were 06 birth cases

recorded during Hajj 2014.

For the first time, a mobile application

called “Indian Haji Accommodation

Locator” was launched by the

Consulate General of India, Jeddah

through which details of Hajjis

could be obtained including their

buildings in Makkah/Madinah and

Camp in Mina. Catering for the

Hajjis during their eight days stay

in Madinah was also introduced for

the first time. An SMS Alert System,

through which Hajis were regularly

updated about the dos and don’ts

during their stay in the Kingdom,

was also introduced for the first

time during this year’s Haj.

Services/Arrangements made available to the Hajis:

INDIAN HAJJ GOODWILL DELEGATION-2014

I. For the first time, during Hajj 2014, Catering was provided to all HCoI pilgrims in Madinah.

II. Mobile phone application – ‘Indian Haji Accommodation Locator’- was launched through which details of Hajis could be obtained and a Haji’s building in Makkah/Madinah and Maktab in Mina could be located.

III. SIM Card with pre-loaded talk time of SR 5 each was provided to all HCoI pilgrims at Embarkation points in India.

IV. In all buildings at Makkah, pilgrims were provided 2 new bed sheets with 2 new pillow covers, Bucket and Mug, WC brush with base, Toilet wiper, Toilet mug ( Lota), Cleaning Brush with pan, Disinfectant.

V. Transport facility were provided for 63,198 pilgrims accommodated in Azizia for commuting between Azizia and Haram and back.

VI. Train facility for all the HCoI pilgrims was provided in Mashaer Region.

VII. A 5-litre Zamzam can was provided to each HCoI pilgrim at their disembarkation points in India.

VIII. Branch Offices facilitated Gas refills, upto two times, at kitchens in buildings in Makkah.

IX. Islamic Development Bank’s Adahi (Qurbani) coupons were made available in Branch Offices in Makkah and Madina about 21000 coupons were purchased by the pilgrims.

X. Government of India sent Medicines worth about 2.3 crores, which were made available to the pilgrims.

XI. SMS Alert System was introduced through which Hajis were regularly updated about the dos and don’ts during their stay in the Kingdom.

A high-level 2 member Haj Goodwill Delegation led by Mr. Arif Baig, Former Minister of State for Commerce, Government of India and Mr. Abdul Rasheed Ansari, President, Minority Cell, Bharatiya Janata Party, visited Saudi Arabia from 29th September to 20th October, 2014. The delegation conveyed the message of peace and goodwill on behalf of the Government of India. The delegation was received at the airport by the Ambassador and the Consul General.

The Delegation called on the Saudi Haj Minister H.E. Dr. Bandar bin Mohammad Al Hajjar on 30th September 2014 in Jeddah and discussed Haj-related issues.

The Leader of the Delegation also attended the annual lunch hosted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz on 4th October 2014.

The delegation also inspected the arrangements made for pilgrims in Makkah, Madinah and the Mashaer region in order to find ways and means of bringing improvements in future Hajj arrangements.

AMENDMENTS TO PIO SCHEME

The Consulate General of India, Jeddah would like

to announce following amendments to the PIO Card

Scheme:

i. A PIO Card issued to an applicant shall be valid for

his / her life time from the date of its issue provided

that such applicant has a valid passport.

ii. A PIO Card which has been issued prior to the date

of publication of this notification shall be deemed

to be valid for life time of its holder subject to the

condition that such person has a valid passport.

iii. A PIO Card holder will be exempted from the

requirement of registration, irrespective of the

duration of stay in India.

iv. All existing PIO card holders are requested to

contact Visa Section to avail this facility.

Consular Outsourcing servicesIn order to further improve and

rationalize its consular outsourcing

services, the Consulate General of

India, Jeddah has selected a new

outsourcing partner M/s VFS Global,

which would start its outsourcing

services from January 1st, 2015.

The new outsourcing agency would

open offices in Jeddah/Abha/Tabuk,

which would be equipped to offer

passport, visa and a wide variety

of consular/attestation services to

the clientele. The agency will also

serve other urban centers of Makkah,

Madinah, Yanbu, Taif, Qunfudah,

Bisha, Al-Baha, Jizan and Najran

through regular monthly/bimonthly

tours.

In addition to the agency centers/tours,

the Consulate’s Consular officials will

continue to visit all urban centers on a

regular basis to offer limited consular

services and deal with complicated

passport matters.

In addition to the above, another

outsourcing agency M/s BLS

International will open an additional

center in Jeddah to induce market

competition and choice. The above

center will offer only Passport and Visa

services.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas – 2015

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on 9th January every year to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the development of India. January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa, led India’s

freedom struggle and changed the lives of Indians forever.

PBD conventions are being held every year since 2003. During the event, individuals of exceptional merit are honoured with the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award to appreciate their role in India’s growth. The event is intended to strengthen Diaspora’s engagement with India’s growth story and provide an invigorating platform to network and exchange views and perspectives. It also aims at enhancing linkages and synergies for Diaspora across the spectrum: economic, social and cultural and to foster Diaspora innovations and strides in science and technology.

The 13th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention will be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 7-9 January 2015. PBD 2015 would be celebrated in a grand way

as the year 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the return of the greatest ‘Pravasi’ of the all, Mahatma Gandhi, from South Africa.

A large number of delegates from across the world are expected to attend the three-day event. All Indian nationals living in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and working in different fields viz academia, business, politics, government, media, and civil society among other fields are welcome to participate in the Convention. The Government of Tamil Nadu will hold its first Global Investors Meet in Chennai on May 23 and 24 next year to “showcase the ample endowments and boundless potential of the state.” The meet would be held at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam.

The Meet proposes to highlight sectors like electronics and electronics hardware, textiles, agro and food processing, IT/ITES, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, automobiles and auto components, chemicals and petrochemicals, engineering and heavy engineering, infrastructure,

including roads, minor port development, power,

industrial parks and SEZs, urban infrastructure and

renewable energy. Japan, the US, France, Germany,

the UK and South Korea are the partner nations

for the event while JETRO (Japan External Trade

Organization), USIBC (US-India Business Council)

and KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion

Agency) are the partner organizations.

The event is the first big attempt by the state to

market itself as a favourable investor destination.

India’s first Renewable Energy Global Investment

Promotion Meet & Expo (REINVEST) is being

organised from 15-17 February, 2015 in New Delhi

with the aim to provide a platform to the global

investment community to connect with stakeholders

in India.

A large exhibition of manufacturers, promoters

and developers is also planned to showcase India’s

manufacturing capabilities and latest technologies

with an objective to showcase India as an

investment destination for renewable energy sector

and to encourage investors for setting up projects

and manufacturing facilities in India.

The Plenary Session is to be inaugurated by the

Prime Minister of India at Vigyan Bhawan, New

Delhi and breakout sessions/exhibition will be

held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Foreign Direct

Investment (FDI) up to 100% is permitted under the

automatic route in renewable energy generation

and distribution projects. The other incentives to

investors include financial and fiscal advantages,

preferential tariff, transfer of foreign technologies

etc.

The Meet will highlight investment opportunities

across key renewable energy sectors in India and

Government’s initiatives on improving the enabling

environment for investors. The Meet will serve as a

global platform for mutual dialogue and interaction

between captains of Indian industry; high level

dignitaries and policymakers with investors and

stakeholders. Over 200 global investors, financial

institutions, renewable power developers and

Indian banks & PSUs among other stakeholders are

expected to participate in REINVEST.

In addition to solar & wind sector, this Meet intends

to bring in foreign investment in newer areas of

renewable energy such as off-shore, hydrogen, bio-

fuels and geo-thermal. With the renewed thrust

to shift to renewables by tapping the enormous

existing potential, Government of India intends to

increase the grid connected renewable installed

power capacity from 14660 MW at present to 55000

MW in 2017.

‘MAKE IN INDIA’ CAMPAIGN AIMS TO WOO SAUDI, GLOBAL INVESTORS

Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi during the launch of

‘Make in India’ campaign in New Delhi.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Na-rendra Modi has launched a new campaign to attract global business to manufacture in India. The Prime Minister launched the cam-paign from Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

“We don’t need to invite the world to India, they are ready to come. We just need to give them our address,” said Mr. Modi.

The government has identified 25 sectors in-cluding automobile, aviation and construc-tion that have potential to attract investment.

The brochures covering sectors like auto-mobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviation, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways among others provide details of growth drivers, investment opportunities, sector specific FDI and other policies and related agencies.

A new web portal, www.makeinindia.com has been launched which will answer all investment-related queries from business entities, while a revamped Invest India unit will act as the first reference point for guiding foreign investors on all aspects of regulatory issues.

“I want Indian companies to become multi-national and to expand their reach to vari-ous parts of the world,” Mr. Modi said at the campaign launch. He also pledged to simplify regulations, according to a report from New Delhi.

In Jeddah, H.E. Mr. B. S. Mubarak, the Consul General of India addressed a large gathering of Saudi and Indian businessmen and intro-duced the ‘Make in India’ initiative to them in a special programme held on 25.09.2014 at the Consulate General of India, Jeddah prem-ises. A similar event was also held in Riyadh which was attended by a large number of in-vestors & officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khaled Al-maeena, a well-known media personality and political analyst highlighted the business op-portunities in India.

Dynamic professionals are working in all the sectors, he said, adding that Saudi business-men could take advantage of the new oppor-tunities in India.

Mr. Mohammed Alungal, CMD of Al-Abeer Medical group and vice president of Saudi Indian Business network (SIBN), said: “There is a common interest be-tween the Kingdom and India to develop trade and commerce. I hope SIBN would focus on this campaign and play an in-tensive role in creating awareness.”

Other Saudi investors and businessmen who shared their successful business experiences in India were Ms. Hana Ab-dulaziz Al-Marwan, Dr. Abdul Raheem Moulana, Mr. Khalid S. Badawi, CEO Al-Abeer Aviation, and Mr. Mohammed Kadi Idreis, GM of United Carton Indus-try.

A host of initiatives had been taken by the Indian government in the past three months, including the ‘eBiz’ project of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion which aims at providing a single platform to avail business and in-vestment related services.

Mr. Pranav Ganesh, Consul (Consular), explained the opportunities and facili-ties the Indian government provides for business visa and rules and regulations related thereto.

‘Swachh Bharat’ (Clean India) campaign

Responding to Prime Minister’s call for ‘Swachh Bharat’ (Clean In-dia) and a nationwide campaign to accomplish Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of Clean India by his 150th birth anniversary in 2019, Con-sulate General of India in Jeddah organized a cleanliness drive for the week starting from 25th September until 2nd October. During this cleanliness drive, all Consulate officials made special efforts to clean their work places, office chambers and consulate’s premises. The week culminated on 2nd October 2014, when all members of the Consulate attended their offices on a national holiday to under-take ‘Shramdaan’ (voluntary service) to clean up consulate premises. They also took a pledge for ‘Swachh Bharat’ (Clean India), which was administered by Ambassador of India H.E. Mr. Hamid Ali Rao, vow-ing to devote at least two hours per week towards cleanliness and making India a clean country in the years to come. India’s Ministry of External Affairs and all its diplomatic missions and posts abroad are observing cleanliness drive week, during which they will strive to ensure that their premises are maintained at an enhanced level of cleanliness.

‘Hindi Day’

Hindi Day was celebrated in the Consulate General of India, Jed-dah on 14th September 2014. On this occasion, a special programme was held at the Consulate General of India premises. H.E. Mr. B.S. Mubarak, Consul General, presided over the function. In his address on the occasion, he greeted all the officials on Hindi Day and exhort-ed them to work in Hindi, which is the official language of the coun-try. He also congratulated the officials who had participated in the Hindi Essay completion organized in the Consulate and gave away the prizes and certificate to the winners.

A host of officers and staff members recited poems in Hindi. The win-ners of the Essay competition included Mr. Nadeem Ahmad Khan, Mr. Sandeep Kumar Singh and Mr. Sher Singh who won first, second and third prizes respectively.

Consul General Mr. B.S. Mubarak and Deputy Consul General Mr. Md.Noor Rahman Sheikh called on the Governor of Makkah Al Mukarramah Region, HRH Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah on August 12, 2014 and discussed matters of mutual interest.

Mr. Rajbir Singh, Vice Consul, joined the Consulate General of India, Jeddah on 31.08.2014. He is looking after the Administrative and Accounts matters in the Consulate.Mr. Singh is a Graduate in Mathematics & Geography from Kurukshetra University (Haryana). Before joining the Post, he has served in various Indian Missions abroad including Zanzibar (Tanzania), Kathmandu (Nepal) and Edinburgh (UK). He is married to Mrs. Santosh and has two sons.

Mr. Ashit Baran Sen Gupta, Vice Consul, joined the Consulate General of India, Jeddah on 22.10.2014. He is looking after Passport Section. He has earlier served in various capacities at Headquarters and in Missions / Posts in Doha, Milan (Italy), Riyadh, Beruit and Houston. He is married to Mrs. Mousumi Sengupta and has one son.

Mr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Vice Consul, joined the Consulate General of India, Jeddah on October 2, 2014. He tookover as Private Secretary to the Consul General. Prior to his posting to CGI, Jeddah, he had worked in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi and Indian Missions/Posts in Toronto, Algiers, Moscow, Geneva and Abu Dhabi. He is married to Mrs. Kavitha Sathyanarayanan and has two children.

والبنية التحتية، مبا فيها الطرق وتطوير املوانئ الصغرية والطاقة والحدائق الصناعنية واملناطق االقتصادية املتحدة وفرنسا وأملانيا اليابان والواليات املتجددة. وإن دول التحتية الحرضية والطاقة الخاصة والبني واململكة املتحدة وكوريا الجنوبية هي الدول الرشيكة للحدث بينام JETRO )منظمة التجارة الخارجية اليابانية(، و USIBC )مجلس األعامل للواليات املتحدة والهند( و KOTRA )وكالة كوريا لتشجيع التجارة

و االستثامر( هي املنظامت الرشيكة يف تنظيم هذا اللقاء.

ويعترب هذا اللقاء هي أول محاولة كبرية من قبل الوالية للتسويق بنفسها كوجهة مواتية للمستثمرين.

يجري تنظيم أول معرض ولقاء للطاقة املتجددة العاملي وتشجيع االستثامر العاملي )REINVEST( وذلك اعتبارا من 15-17/فرباير 2015م بـ نيودلهي بهدف تقديم منصة ملجتمع املستثمرين الدوليني للتواصل مع

أصحاب املصلحة يف الهند.

كام تم التخطيط لعقد معرض كبري للمنتجني والصناعيني واملروجني واملطورين لتسليط الضوء عىل قدرات التصنيع الهندي وأحدث التقنيات بهدف تقديم الهند كـ وجهة لالستثامر لقطاع الطاقة املتجددة وتشجيع

املستثمرين القامة املشاريع ومرافق االنتاج والتصنيع يف الهند.

ومن املقرر أن يقوم دولة رئيس وزراء الهند بافتتاح الجلسة العامة يف فيجيان بهوان بـ نيودلهي كام يتم )FDI( املبارش األجنبي االستثامر نيودلهي. سيسمح ، ميدان براغايت عقد جلسات/ معارض جانبية يف لحد 100% يف ظل املسار التلقايئ يف مشاريع توليد الطاقة املتجددة وتوزيعها. كام تشمل الحوافز األخرى

للمستثمرين املزايا املالية والرضيبية والجمركية ونقل التكنولوجيات األجنبية الخ.

يف املتجددة للطاقة الرئيسية القطاعات مختلف يف االستثامرية الفرص عىل الضوء سيسلط اللقاء وإن عاملية منصة مبثابة اللقاء ويكون للمستثمرين. املواتية البيئة تحسني عىل الحكومة ومبادرات الهند

السياسات مع الهندية والشخصيات رفيعة املستوى وصانعي الصناعة املتبادل بني قادة للحوار والتفاعل

املستثمرين وأصحاب املصلحة. ومن املتوقع أن يشارك يف لقاء االستثامر يف الطاقة املتجددة أكرث من 200

من املستثمرين العامليني واملؤسسات املالية واملطورين يف الطاقة املتجددة والبنوك الهندية ووحدات الدعم

الربنامجي اىل جانب أصحاب املصلحة اآلخرين.

أيضا جلب االستثامر األجنبي يف مناطق اللقاء يعتزم الرياح، الشمسية وطاقة الطاقة باإلضافة إىل قطاع

جديدة من الطاقة املتجددة مثل الهيدروجني والوقود الحيوي والحرارية األرضية قبالة الساحل. ومع التوجه

املحتوم للتحول اىل مصادر الطاقة املتجددة من خالل استغالل اإلمكانات الهائلة املوجودة، تعتزم حكومة

إىل الحارض الوقت ميغاواط يف املتجددة من 14660 االتصال لشبكة املركبة الطاقة زيادة قدرة الهند

55000 ميجاوات يف عام 2017م.
