Business is picking up and the following pictures are from our newest Union Plant for Cemex.
They voted to be represented by the Teamsters 2 years ago and the company drug out the
negotiations for another year. When this plant went Union they got a contract with guarantees in
it as well as improvements in wages and Health and Welfare. We would like to keep the
momentum going and see more Redi-Mix plants organized. Welcome on board brothers.
Tony Lucero (Steward) and part of negotiating committee. Bob a happy Teamster and looking forward to
retirement soon

CEMEX 7th Street Cemex has created a program for job sight safety called Job Safe. The two individuals responsible for
seeing it through and spreading it throughout the company as well as the country are two long term
Teamsters shown below.

Cemex
Other Companies have been shown the project and have adopted it for their own use. Since Safety is
the main objective, Cemex has not claimed any rights to the content of the brochure and/or presentation
making it possible for other industries to adapt the material to suit their specific needs. Again, this
was created and moved forward by 2 Teamsters with the help and support of the company. Should
anyone be interested please contact the Teamsters Local 104 Union Hall (Construction Division) or
Cemex directly.
Here are a few companies and associations who are using Job Safe –

These members work quite a ways from the Rat Race of the Valley but they are still just as important to us as
all others. That’s why it’s called International Brotherhood of Teamsters. I will be seeing you guys again
up North soon.
T-Pac
We just secured a good contract with this Company. There were improvements throughout and work has
picked up at this location. Right now we have 100% membership. CONGRATS GUYS!!

These members had rough negotiations but came out good in the end. They got improvements
and some better language. Thanks to Juan Mercado for sitting in on the negotiations.
NOV/Ameron
We recently had tough negotiations with this company but in the end we prevailed. The members
received 9,5% wage increase over 4 years and increases to their pension. This company as well
has picked up work and things look good going forward.

Staker Parsons We secured a good contract with this Company 2 years ago and have 2 more to go. This Company operates
out of Tucson and has some good Teamsters working for them. The Union has been able to work with them
well in the last few years. Hopefully the positive relationship continues.

Pipeline:
Just South of Tucson they started a 60-80 mile stretch of pipeline. Price Gregory is the contractor and we pre-jobbed on
7/7/14. They expect the job to last a few months and this has made it possible to put 80 Teamsters to work at this location.
Out of the 80 Teamsters 60 are from our local. This job will keep a lot of Teamsters working for awhile.
We had 2 incidents on the pipeline on 10/7/14. The issue was mainly the soft ground from all the rain but this is still a
reminder to be safe when you are out there. Thankfully nobody was hurt in these incidents. Remember to stay safe out
there.
Capstone/BHP Copper Mine
We are currently in negotiations with this group. They have started off by wanting to throw away the contract
and start over. We don’t have that in our book, so we’ll see what happens. Anyway you look at it; it seems a
fight is inevitable. These employees deserve what they have worked years for. They have had a good contract for
years and now the new owners want to strip the employees of what they deserve and have earned over the years.

Multi Craft
Smith Pipe and Steel
We have completed negotiations with this company. We were able to secure Health and Welfare and get good raises
to wages and pension. We will be holding our ratification meeting on 10/12/14. I will keep you posted as to the
results. They currently have a mature contract with good language and benefit package. The Union is looking to keep
this intact and /or improve on what is already there.

Sysco Foods.
This Company is going through a purchase of US Foods at this time. There have been many challenges
regarding this issue and I will keep you informed as much as possible in the time to come. Sysco has started a
warehouse to driver program for its employees. It lets a warehouseman receive the training needed to become a
driver which in turn opens a position in the warehouse.
Fransisco Graduating
John Howard graduating and getting his CDL and moving to the Transportation Department
I’m happy to announce that we have reintroduced our “Warehouse to Driver” program. For
those of you who are unfamiliar with this program, it allows qualifying warehouse associates
to obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) and learn the fundamentals of the Sysco
Delivery process. Internal candidates who use this channel often make excellent delivery
associates, as they already know Sysco’s warehousing procedures (and their impact on
delivery activities), and also have substantial product knowledge. This shortens the learning
curve, helping them become productive and accurate delivery associates very quickly.
Sysco Corporation envisions that the distribution community will continue to face the ongoing
challenge of driver recruitment, and that this will continue to be a challenge for years to come.
The American Trucking Association estimates that the overall trucking industry will have a
shortage of some 100,000 drivers over the next decade.
Industry experts point out the following challenges: An aging driver workforce: the average
age of a CDL holder is 42, while one in six is over the age of 55.
Industry growth: Projected growth for the trucking industry is six percent while the driver
population is increasing at less than one percent.
In the business of foodservice distribution, quality drivers are crucial to maintaining excellent
customer satisfaction and loyalty. With Mimi’s Café and The Hilton Group coming on board
in the first quarter of our next fiscal year, it’s extremely important we support this growth by
continuing to expand our total number of delivery associates. The Warehouse to Driver
program is one way for Sysco Arizona to deal with the ongoing challenge of driver recruitment
and support all the new business expected next year.
Warehouse Employees in the break room at 11:00 pm. Whether the company wants to admit it, these
Teamsters are what make it possible for management to get a paycheck and keep the lights on. Most of
them work when we are sleeping so keep that in mind next time you see a Sysco truck on the road. These
guys made it possible.
